Orange UK 2.1 update news

Same here.

The general trend for all mobile providers seems to be that they don't know their arse from their elbow when it comes to HTC products because it's not a frigging iPhone.
 
Just another thought before anyone on Orange de brands their phone if the update isn't tonight.

I read somewhere that after using the method in the other thread about using the generic ROM and gold card, someone with an Orange locked phone was prompted for an unlock code after instaling the ROM.

It has something to do with the radio, and won't work with Orange Hero's

Has anyone done this successfully on a Orange locked Hero? If so can you let us know of any issues.

The issue with missing apps has now been resolved, so that's one less problem.

I'm on orange and I got the update by simply going to check for updates.

This was yesterday....

You guys still don't have it?

I suspect your service provider is Orange but your phone is either unlocked or has been unbranded.

If not please confirm as I'd be sure intersted to know how you got the update ;-)

The excitment is killing me......it's just like the night before Christmas :-) Off to bed now so that Christmas gets here quicker!!

Unless of course September is correct......

Well, I've never rooted the phone - it was the same as it always was when I went through the update process.

Actually - I got the phone through car-phone warehouse. Could that be it?

What I did to get the update was simply to put the date forward; receiving the first preliminary update, then yesterday I checked and 2.1 was ready for DL / instal.

Innit, and the only thing I notice different is the Orange logo on startup.

Nope, I set the date forward, left my wi-fi on for 4 hours and nothing.

Did you do the mini-update in April? I don't have the option to manually check for updates.

I have heard of carphone warehouse selling unbranded phones on contracts before. If you check your build number it's most likely one of the unbranded 2.1 ones.
 
Guys, just a warning to everybody using an Orange banded phone. If you were considering debranding your phone to get the 2.1 update, please don't. It seems that the generic OTA update contains a radio that doesn't work with orange phones and it will tell you the phone is network locked. (Even if you're using an Orange SIM card).

Is yours an unlocked one though?

Some pressing questions:

1. Anyone who has debranded their phone and locked it - have you then been able to reinstall the standard, legit 1.5 ROM and did it work?

2. Would rooting the phone still lock up the sim? That might be my only option coz I am NOT waiting 'til September, Orange can suck it.
 
Well i woke up this morning, after leaving my date set as 2/8/2010 . .NOTHING

I rang Orange today (to see when my upgrade date is) and i asked about the "promised" 2.1 update . . . the girl knew Nothing :(

Anyway "if" it does come in sept . . its too little too late i have been waiting for this update for nearly a year , and my upgrade is in October . . so ill be a sheep and get an I-phone. .
