"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Back on #12 in Cleveland (not that I'm anywhere near Ohio). I was driving in the car on the way home from the beach today and Alice Cooper's "School is Out" was on the radio, and I caught the lyrics "we have no choice". Probably no relation whatsoever to the fact that Droid X Designate #12 rocks, it has no choice....But maybe someone can piece things together there.

I read through the song's lyrics. Unless Alice Cooper is in the Rock Hall of Fame or has some other Cleveland connection, if the song has anything to do with the clue, maybe it has something to do with a school...maybe a university in ohio? Maybe School of Rock (it looks like there are 2 of them in Cleveland).

Alice Cooper used to be part owner of a restaurant in DT Cleve. It changed owners around 2007, I believe.

Ok EVERYONE! I know how we can all contribute. Please read and proceed in assisting.

I'm 100% convinced that you will not simply "guess" where to find it even if you know the street. "The enhanced vision of Droid X would be the perfect tool to help you find one. Ironic."

It did not say a "useful" tool, but "perfect"

Would it be awesome if the 100's of us could look down the street with enhanced vision?

Verizon & Moto endorse the app Layar. This app is pretty neat, specifically it gives you a digital Vision of your surroundings. Rather than searching to go to a location, it is the reverse - showing you what is in your location.

Great! But it has a 5km limit to your area... useful if you are Near the clued in area. Verizon assumes that we may whip this app out when we are ready to look within this range.

The solution: Spoof your GPS location. There is an app "Location Spoofer" in the market place. Spoof your location to Lombard St (or head to Ohio!) and get looking!

Thought I could add in some quick instructions for an android user:

Android Settings:
Application
Development
Allow mock locations

Location Spoofer:
Select From map
Zoom to location
Select location
Set duration to 20+ mins
set location

Layar:
Menu Filter settings
All Categories
Hidden layers? Set to none I suppose
Custom range Max
Show paid content
Click Reality view
Menu - Map

You will now see loads of listings that need to be sifted through. I do not have time to sift through all this mess, but if we all take part of the area we can possible print together some interesting finds.

I just finished the movie Surrogates tonight. I was bound to find a way to transport us to the near by locations... this is the best I could do for you guys now.

Let's get busy and looking forward to some finds!

ok. so here is my report from #3 search:
went to the crooked part of lombard st n walked up n down...saw nothing around.

then i went coit tower, walked arround and insdie the gift shop, saw nothing. used the paay telescopes to look toward lombard and saw a red balloon in a window, but nothing good.
went to the supposed cybernettic lab address which was a parking lot, saw nothing.
finnally went to another lab on townsend, but it was a locked bldg...nothing around.
i had a good feeling at first, but that faded.
thx for the help n clues everyone!

You have to think HIGH ALTITUDE!

One of the first clues for droid 3 was high altitude. whats a popular cybernetic style building/tower/store/street near lombard?

Damn...I was totally hoping by the time I made it home from the 4th of July party I was at, someone here would have found #3...damn.........

I did a quick check trough the thread but didn't find this. I play around with hdmi state of mind.

Empire state of mind: New York
Higher state of mind: school

Couple that with "hunters assemble, everyone (sic) clear the area." leads me closer to a school since summer is here, everyone is "clearing" the area.

I punched in a few search terms and got the following:

Hunter College - Assembly Hall
695 Park Avenue
New York, NY 10021

It would match for the school, location, and even name to a point.

It might be a good bet. It is summer break so access to the location may be limited. I'm not sure how they run things around there.

I used layar multiple times throughout my search on and around lombard street for #3. It didn't give me any clues at all sadly...

One of the first clues for droid 3 was high altitude. whats a popular cybernetic style building/tower/store/street near lombard?

I'm guessing you've never been on Lombard street lol! Right before the street gets curvy as hell you are literally driving/walking damn near straight up! The top of Lombard is pretty high compared to the surround area. Additionally it seems those of us who did look went to Coit tower as well since the road to it connects to Lombard street, I believe the top of the tower is one of the highest points in San Francisco.

There really isn't much near Lombard that is of high altitude, other than maybe Coit Tower. When I think of high altitude in SF, I think Mt. Davidson, Twin Peaks, or Transamerica building. The entire city is very hilly and changes altitudes drastically almost at every street, so its really hard to judge

Lol correct. If any of you guys haven't been to the top of the crooked part, the surrounding streets to get there are literally almost at >75 degree angles. You can damn near slide down the sidewalk. I still don't see any connection with the cybernetics part.

There is a problem with this method. Layar requires gps spoofing, but Location Spoofer only spoofs wifi. There is a market app called Location Spoofer (1.5 only) that will spoof gps, but this will only work if you have Android 1.5.

Good luck! The Art Institute that I posted, and the intersection of Lombard and Gough St are good theories. Tell the wifey that you got a flat tire or something haha.
Just curious, did anyone end up checking this place just in case?

Tried it around the RRHOF and the university research center, but didn't find anything...

Supersaki, tell you what, if you want to meet up tomorrow night at the TMS we can look together. That is if they don't give a better clue for 5. If you find the X then I get your old droid and if I find it you can have my droid. And mines only a month old without a scratch

I'm not going to get a chance to look again until Friday, possibly Tuesday.

TMS is huge!!!! It gets overwhelming out there searching. I've been several times and nothing. I've really narrowed down where it is "not" now. But I will be back tomorrow to continue the search. One more hunch before I throw in the towel until the next clue.

I got tired just checking it out on google streets! haha.

Well its got to be somewhere protected by the elements. Doesn't have to be inside, just protected. So you might not see it unless you were right up on it. I still don't really think its there due to TMS being a sprint samsung thing, but it can't hurt to look

I was thinking if they had some area about the drivers you could look for info on the #12 car VZW sponsors and see if it's around there maybe.

We got another guy saying he found a Droid X.

"@DroidLanding wow I can't believe I found It ;)
about 5 hours ago via web in reply to DroidLanding" by dogmooncat.

Not really sure if I believe him. He is in Carson City, NV and the only X he mentions is #3. No pics, no nothing just that. :((

That is incorrect and also not the correct app. Location spoofer as i stated is the name of the app and it works great on my moto droid 2.1. Please check again and you will find it.

No Android phone :(. Was hoping the X would be my first smartphone, but I didn't find the thing with the naked eye. My observation is that they can't require us to have one to find it, but I did keep thinking of that clue. I kept looking up, looked for eyes in any shape or form, but nothing. Once one is found, it will create a mad dash to the others I think. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, but the haystack is the size of a city!!!
