Root Root is out!!!!!

Finally got root! It seemed that installing HTC Sync helped, because it installed drivers on the computer specific to that phone.

Edit: Rather, I had root for a while, but was finally able to get to the right recovery screen and flash Froyo.

pingpongboss - I think I might try to root this weekend. I'm glad to hear the roam indicator issue is fixed. Are there any other quirks that you've run into?

How are you liking Froyo?

Hey, good luck. Make sure you take a look at this page and follow toast's Part 1 and Part 2 HTC EVO helpful/popular threads (Look here First!) - xda-developers

I've stopped using the Froyo ROM because it broke the camera. I've tried BuglessBeast, Fresh, DamangeControl, and BakedSnack. All are great custom ROMs based on Android 2.1

Hey, I'm trying to do the froyo update but when I get to therecovery screen it just comes up w/ the symbol of the phone w/ the red triangle but that's it. I have to pop the battery out to get the phone on again, does anyone have an idea what could be going on. I hope I gave enough info.

I did this tutorial and finished it after a few errors but now it is working. I am wondering what the point of rooting and putting the stock rom back on is? I can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated.

wakebordr: to have stock rom and be able to remove sprints bloatware.

GoDDROID: i believe its cause the custom recovery didnt load properly. on that screen you can volume up and power to get to reboot, instead of having to take out battery.

Well, I had to pop the battery for so reason that didn't work. I've rooted the phone following xda steps and got evorecovery and couldn't get it done. So I tried rom manager and I see that the adb android sdk is missing. I'm wondering if that is the problem.

So lets say I root my phone, flash a fresh stock along with maybe Aloysius ontop of it. Can I still get updates from htc? What happens when fryo comes from them? Do I need to go back to how my phone was before?

When you install an HTC update, it will most work. But it will most likely remove root and other stuff.

I just got my EVO yesterday and was trying to root it but kept getting a message saying "Main Version is older!" on the white bootloader screen. I'm new to this whole rooting process and don't understand why I'm getting this error, any advice?

I get the same thing. My understanding is that we won't be able to root yet, which is a total bummer :(. Maybe there is an alternate method out!

Will there be an updated Stock ROM (rooted) with 1.47.651.1? I cant find any info on this.

The latest OTA breaks root. Take a look here [Rooting] After using Official OTA_Supersonic_1.47.651.1-1.32.651.6 release - xda-developers

There is no way to root the OTA currently. Instead of accepting the OTA, you should install a rooted OTA from xda or wait for your favorite custom ROM to include the OTA. If you've already installed the OTA on your phone, you won't be able to get root back for now.

I am Unrevoked2 with su permissions. Can I install a rooted OTA onto my phone using a Mac? Thanks.

Awesome!!!

Cant wait to root!

These guys are geniuses!!

1 question I know this is dumb for some reason I cant find the answer.

If for some reason I take my phone back to sprint (since I have light leakage) I can like restore to orig settings correct?

yes, from what ive read just restore and run the ota again and should revert back

I was just thinking how confusing it must be to see a thread titled "Root is out!!!!" when everyone is waiting for a 2.2 root. I bet changing the title would stop a lot of un-needed, "can i root my 2.2" posts.

Just thinking out loud. :D

Or un-sticky it and let it die a natural death...this thread serves no purpose. And when 2.2 is rooted, stick it!...just my opinion. The mods here do a great job!!!!

So misleading I agree...I have a Droid X but my buddy has the EVO 4G and wants to get wifi tethering. SO naturally I cam looking and found this thread...thankfully I read and didn't just presume, but now know the 4G is not rooted yet.

Should the unrevoked thread fall from sticky also?

Anyone tried the Universal AndRoot to attempt it on the 4G? It states that is can root 2.2...but don't know if it is fully supported or not.

Well technically root for 2.2 is now out.. But...
I still say un sticky this one.. Is three pages deep.. And every one is going too need updated info to root 2.2
