So does anyone yet know exactly what we are looking for yet? and also has anyone found one yet lol.....and has anyone thought that they could be moved? if these have been answered sorry

New Plan

This droidlanding marketing thing is supposedly being done by a third part company. Lets find this company, raid their offices and take the phones or beat the employees up for information. I know I'm not the only one that wants to release some frustration from some of these clues.

I highly doubt it. There's already one in NY most likely.

Besides going to the top of those buildings is going UP not "north" It is most likely in a state bordering canada.

New York is bordering canada, I live in Niagara Falls and its actually the most popular of the canadian borders we have like three bridges here...whats the other one thats in NY?

According to who? I mean it's not surprising, but if it's the same one that did the Mazda interactive marketing then it would help so we know how they hide things.

Has anyone given any more thought to the people that droidlanding is following? At first they were following, what it seemed like to me, companies (Western Digital, Tiger Direct, etc.). Now it seems that they are following individuals. What do you think? I was thinking locations, where these people are from? I don't know, just a thought. I even replied to a couple tweets just to see if they started following me.
-#12 Hunter

That's what I thought when I first started following. I followed all the companies, thinking it was an online scavenger hunt. Now I think it's just to increase its twitter presence.

I'm 100% convinced that you will not simply "guess" where to find it even if you know the street. "The enhanced vision of Droid X would be the perfect tool to help you find one. Ironic."

Verizon & Moto endorse the app Layar. This app is pretty neat, specifically it gives you a digital Vision of your surroundings. Rather than searching to go to a location, it is the reverse - showing you what is in your location.

I downloaded this to check it out. Thing is, you have to select which 'Layars' to use. Which one do you think droidlanding would fall under? I did not see a downloadable layar associated with droids or droidlanding, but there was a 3rd party one for tweets.

I was offline yesterday as I was at the beach. I was hoping that Mahers had found #3. Keep it going, man.
I walked into a Verizon store in Wilmington, NC. I only asked about the prices on the Droid X. I didn't say anything about @droidlanding. I figured that wouldn't know anything about it.

I hope everybody had a great 4th. Maybe somebody find one today.

You have to think HIGH ALTITUDE!

One of the first clues for droid 3 was high altitude. whats a popular cybernetic style building/tower/store/street near lombard?

Guys I'm pretty sure we're obsessing with Lombard St too early. That is the clue that tells us what city to look in, not where in the city to look. Justification for that comment? Easy: google "lombard street" and nothing else. The very first hit is the wikipedia entry for Lombard Street in San Francisco. The 3rd hit says that Lombard Street is not only San Francisco's, but America's crookedest street. I would say that makes Lombard a widely recognized San Francisco landmark. That clue wasn't telling us to look ON Lombard Street, it was just confirming that there is a DX in San Francisco. We will get more specific clues later.

One of the reasons I think this has to do with Verizon. 1st and foremost, this is a marketing campaign for VZ. They paid an ad agency to come up with this and they are going to milk it for everything its worth. I kind of doubt they are going to let these things be found after a few days, they want to stretch it out and generate as much buzz around their new flagship phone as they can.

I believe they think #4 is in NY. I haven't been following the numbers to know for sure though.

Maybe there are two in NY, my point was mostly that the Empire state building is not where #13 is. Unless you can actually see Canada from there.

I wouldn't know. I've never been.

I thought I've seen it mentioned in the thread here before and maybe quoted from additional source. I'm not 100% sure though.

I think I agree with that. I was really excited yesterday assuming they were giving us a July 4 gift, but since three or four people didn't find anything it seems likely it was a city clue. And the safest one too, you can't use the golden gate bridge as your landmark because people would flock there just like we did Lombard.

Oh ok, ill have to check out #4 but that would be in nyc which is 8 hours from here and about 4 from canada....N.F is obviously right on the border as is buffalo on this side of N.Y......thanks for info

I'm going to guess you don't live near SF. And I will bet that if you did, you would have been out there searching, too. :) Just in case. That was part of my motivation anyway. Why take the chance that it is there and leave it to someone else, especially if you're close enough to take a look?

Anyway, as for using the GG Bridge, tons of people walk across that thing all the time (generally tourists) so a few more people searching for the phone wouldn't be a big deal...besides, unless they hang that damn thing from the top of one of the cables, there are no hiding places on the bridge itself. At either end of it, though, it's a different story.

And as for letting people find it after a few days...well, it's been going on since June 21, so it's been about 2 weeks which is more than a few days in my book. If there are 17 out there and they start letting us find one or two a day before launch, the excitment and buzz are still out there AND it might even grow becasue people would know what to look for and think they still have a shot.

Bottom line, we got nothing so far, so the hunt continues...

No Android phone :(. Was hoping the X would be my first smartphone, but I didn't find the thing with the naked eye. My observation is that they can't require us to have one to find it, but I did keep thinking of that clue. I kept looking up, looked for eyes in any shape or form, but nothing. Once one is found, it will create a mad dash to the others I think. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack, but the haystack is the size of a city!!!

I forgot to add... When I hunted for #12 in Cleveland on Saturday, I downloaded Layar to use. I used it to supliment my hunting skills, but no luck. I couldn't find anything even remotely related to droid, verizon, motorola; not even a "hey, look at that".

On another note... Did anyone see the fireworks in these cities last night. Was there anything unusual about them?

Wow, has it really been that long already? Well, if nothing else this is helping pass the time.

Oh I definitely would have been out there, no doubt. I think we were all excited for the possibility of finding one. We just need to remember they do a pattern haha

True...patterns have been identified, BUT this was the first time we got anything so specific (Street or city wise, at least!)

I really hope someone here finds it instead of one of those lying a$$ clowns on twitter that keep claiming they found it!

You're right, I'm no where close to #3. I'm in OH, so the closest to me is #12, unfortunately I'm about as far from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame as you can get and still be in Ohio. 225 miles.

Didn't mean to imply that you were wrong to be searching, I was just as excited as everyone else to get a street level clue and was rooting for you yesterday along with everyone else. I made that comment this morning because I saw all the activity yesterday and came back this morning to find people still focused on Lombard St. All I'm saying is that yesterday, I thought we were on to something, this morning that seems less likely.

aaaaannd, my brother just called, so back to a day of sun n fun on the Ohio River for me..... Good luck to all, I hope one has been found by the time I get back. (though I don't think we will start finding them until the last week of the promotion)

Hi guys. I've been following along for a few days now but just registered to post, etc. I'm in Burlington, Vermont, so #3 could end up nearby, but I feel like we'll be getting a lot more info, and somehow I doubt it lands here.

I'm actually posting to say that the guy who claims to have found one today, dogmoon whatever his name was, seems to have only created a twitter account for the DroidLanding promotion, and hasn't posted anything but the "wow I found it ;)" thing, so I feel like we could probably disregard that...

Yea that's kind of how I'm feeling with him. I won't believe a tweet until someone takes a picture with the phone and posts it.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble (not really! :)), but they already tweeted #3 is in CA!!!
