"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

from the rules:
"Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden."

so this means that until GPS coordinates are tweeted there are no certificates hidden.

we're all going to need new f5 keys for our keyboards after this is over...

I hope no one is checking the subway downtown. The certificate ISN'T ANYWHERE until they release GPS coordinates.

I think its funny that people are complaining now. They are giving away 21 droid x's for free and some of you are mad that you dont have a good chance of getting one and quitting? Are you kidding me? The fact that you even have the slightest chance of getting a free droid x should make you happy.

some people will never be happy i guess.

im upset they started the clues 2 weeks ago without posting the damn rules....i myself and im sure some others feel like they have wasted time looking and figuring some of this since day 1 !!!!! or 71 tweets ago!!

Only pay income tax if it's valued over $600

I don't know about that: Excerpt from the IRS website:

It is a common misconception that if a taxpayer does not receive a Form 1099-MISC or if the income is under $600 per payer, the income is not taxable. There is no minimum amount that a taxpayer may exclude from gross income.

Prizes and awards
Subject to certain exceptions, the cash value of prizes or awards won in a drawing, quiz show program, beauty contest, or other event, must be included on the tax return as taxable income.
Taxpayers must also report the fair market value of merchandise or products won as a prize or award, as taxable income.
For example, both a $500 cash prize and the fair market value of a new range won in a baking contest must be reported as other income on Form 1040, Line 21.

Not to say I told you so, but, I pretty much called it. I knew they wouldn't leave a DX in a random location for anyone to find. I also knew a Verizon representative would be in the vicinity to validate the finder. Sucks it's just going to be GPS coordinates, as whoever is closest will obviously be there first. Takes any kind of skill out of the "contest". I'm surprised there are only 21 of them.

I've been here since day one as well. I have a word document on my desktop where i've been keeping track of everything and making notes so i've put as much work into as anyone except the ones that have driven places.

I think legally they don't have to post the rules until the contest officially starts which is today.

Yeah we've all put a lot of work into this but can't you look on the bright side that we have a chance to get a free phone? They didn't have to give any away at all.

How is it even a scavenger "hunt" if they tell you straight up where it is? I don't get it..?

For a small investment they are generating a lot of hype.
That's viral marketing for ya.

But I'm still not catching this so called "hunt." If they're going to give you the exact GPS location, they might as well call it a race:rolleyes:

Ummm...I don't know about that #4 clue being NYC. Washington DC could be considered the capital of the world and, unlike NYC, DC has Metrocards...

And yes, I understand that the UN could also make NYC "capital of the world".

Someone could organize a phone number/state area list for personal updates or an offer to help navigate?

I actually did this for people on the main forums when Nine Inch Nails was hiding tickets by their venues and the GPS coordinates popped up in Google Earth. I had a system where I was the first one to get contacted about new location updates and then I sent a text to the person in the area about it and even helped some people with driving directions over the phone.

*shrug*

What do you mean? It says in the rules that they'll be posting GPS coordinates...?

The way I read it is it'll be after the final clue for those coordinates is posted. Not that the coordinates will be posted themselves

What about the hdmi empire state of mind clue?

I agree with those who said they won't post GPS coordinates... that's not what the sentence means (I actually hadn't interpreted it to mean that they would post GPS coordinates until I read this thread)

"Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden."

It says "final clue OF each GPS location" not "final clue CONTAINING each GPS location for each Certificate" or something of the sort. I think it's meant to read like this:

"Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue regarding each location a Certificate is hidden at will be tweeted at the time that Certificate is hidden"

Yo, call me blind, but I still don't see the link for the rules on the twitter page...Where is it exactly? And what does it say?

Here's my issue... The initial tweets indicate something completely different than the legal rules. They didn't post the rules until today, but the linked account has been tweeting for two weeks. Aren't those contradictory tweets "False Advertisment"? They're very misleading and are related to this contest.

Why would they say "GPS location" in the rules then. Every location on earth has GPS coordinates. If they weren't going to post the GPS location, then why put GPS location in the rules?

If they are hiding these things in a large structure, like a mall or multi-story building, then a GPS location may still not pinpoint it. You'd have to be quick, but it still might be worthwhile if you can get there to look around and try to find it.
