"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Very odd that there hasn't been a tweet yet. Maybe Verizon heard our anger and is revamping the contest rules :p

I think that this is all over until they give us the coordinates. I'm really starting/making myself believe it was a hoax that went to far and now Verizon is back tracking to actually do something so that they don't get sued over it.

Just the randomness of the phone placements is odd. I know I'm not the only one but there isn't a single phone within 4 hours of me. Which eliminates me from the competition completely. BS!

Either way I'm getting a X maybe not on launch day but in the very very near future I will have one and enjoy all the goodies.

h-bomb_GA on the IRC chat brought up a good point. Maybe it's taking so long for a clue because they are getting ready on the West Coast to give one away.

I'm in the same boat, if there's not one in Ga. I'm not going to Alabama, Florida or Tennessee to get a phone for a carrier I'm not even on.

Yeah odd there hasn't been any posts. I feel like driving down to the Verizon store and asking the manager if I can play with the Droid X again. Haha

I think it would be more fun for a clue rather than a GPS given out. I also hope it's not somewhere in the middle of a city, ut rather a large area, like a park, so that if a few or more show up at the same time, it'll be a larger area to search. ^_^

This clue makes me wonder if I should drive back to Houston today...my fiance would feel totally neglected as I was there all last week and just got back yesterday :(

You're the first person I've seen bring up the idea that the GPS coordinates could intentionally be vague. You could end up being right, but I still lean away from that idea. It just isn't in the spirit of a scavenger hunt to do it that way. Geo caching, yes. Scavenger hunt, no. I also just don't think the suits in Verizon legal would sign off on that. It will be chaotic enough if the final clue leads 50 people to someplace as large as a park. If they give coordinates, then they will have all 50 of those people running to a specific spot. I don't see that ending well.
Yes, but they can control the "vagueness" of the coordinates depending on how many digits they supply. It could be just a few feet to tens of feet to hundreds of feet. I could see them sending coordinates within a hundred feet or so. That's about as good as a specific street address.

wives/fiancees are more important than a free phone.

Way more important. Just fork over the money if you have it. If not do the NE2 deal and if you have to wait for that to end there will be a bigger better phone out buy then. The X will only be the King for a few months. I don't think the Droid 2 will knock it down but I do believe the holiday season phones will.

Married 9 years as of yesterday. And I made a stop to see if I could find the one here BEFORE going home for our anniversary. HA!

Actually future husband. So he doesn't usually get his feelings hurt for me going home to visit my family. (we're still college kids). Also I made him cupcakes last night :p
if you made him cupcakes last night then your solid for about a week to do what you want! haha :D

I think they will be specific coordinates just like Geocaching. Thats what this turned into. And unless you have a super duper expensive high speed GPS that will get you down to the inch the best you can do with your phone or a Garmin is 3 meters, roughly 10 feet.

** Zan turns off his "Lurker Cloaking Device" **

Being a geocacher (you guys should really try this, its loads of fun), i suspect that they will probably give out the coords of the center point of the search area and tell you its somewhere within 100 yards of this point. The GPS coords themselves won't be the location of the cert, because they would then have potentially several hundred people flocking to that one point. They'll spread it out like an easter egg hunt. I'd almost guarantee that it won't be near that initial point.

LMAO....I knew I was being watched.
