"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

I think it's BS that they expect the general public to be able to get out of work and run to a phone at the drop of a hat. The "misses" tweet that got erased with the giveaway clue wasn't even seen by half the folks here who are watching everything like hawks. Was that intentional or not? We'll never know, unless they do that for every certificate. If so, twitter has to be on auto refresh for like 10 second intervals to make sure those who are close to not miss the location clue before coordinates get sent out.

I hear ya, I'm out of the one in San Fran. If the 2 hour plus drive doesn't put me behind the curve, the mad dash that looks inevitable at the end certainly will... Good luck to everyone else tho.

I don't understand why everyone is saying they deleted the clue about the docks before they gave the coordinates. It is still on my twitter page and I have refreshed several times.

The only logical explanation is that you have a magic web browser. ^_^ lol Just joking. Someone said they put it back up, right? I haven't checked the actual Twitter page, I use programs/apps for twitter.

I don't think they'd overthink it this way, but the pilgrims actually landed briefly in Ptown, then headed across the bay to Plymouth...

It's not back on the @DroidLanding page, so I'm gonna say no they didn't put it back up..

You have the dumbest argument ever. You make it sound like Verizon is making you participate in this contest to get the Droid. OBVIOUSLY it's your choice to attempt to get it for free.

and Yes they did tweet a clue about the area it's gonna be in.

well, they invited people to participate and put up tweets like

"We've received a transmission from Droid X designate #4. It detects humans in the area. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?"

Back on July 5th.

Isn't that a little misleading? They hadn't even released the ****ing rules yet. Shouldn't they have done that before the whole charade?

Oh wait, then people would have just waited for coordinates, instead of wasting their time thinking they were actually looking for something that existed.

So I stand by my point that this is a lame "scavenger hunt" since it's all about luck in the end, not about being able to decipher a clue.

everyone just leave him alone and let him pout. he's not going to understand...

Curt941,

I'm not as annoyed as you are, but I certainly see your point. That one about detecting humans in the area was lame. But, I'm an old D&D nerd, so RP'ing is what they were kind of doing. Like we argued here days ago...until the rules were available, no one ever said they were giving away phones. We all just assumed. That's why I really though this was just to promote areas that were getting early shipments.

of course they're going to invite you to participate, which contest doesn't?

they revealed the rules as of yesterday and the contest didn't start until today. many blog sites had links to the rules that were on located on their twitter account.

uhhh, no...people didn't just need the coordinates. the clues help people narrow down the area where the phone is going to be located. it gives the advantage to the people who figured out the clue and went ahead to that area. do you think #21 was gonna be spotted in just 3 mins without the clue? no.

Hate to admit it, but I have just signed up for Twitter today when I started following this forum. I have a Blackberry Curve that is about on it's last leg, can't even get it to upload a pic to Facebook anymore so I have been following on the laptop. Luckily my upgrade date falls on July 13th so I plan to be in the store first thing Thursday morning to get my Droid X. I HOPE I CAN GET ONE! :o
