"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Hmmm, 30 minutes come and gone and no coords. Useless clue, unless you live in MA.

they make it very obvious when they are going to give out a phone. Look at the tweets before the one in NY. There were a lot of hints that the location was coming. There hasn't been anything like that for #20

Well now I know I'll have time to drive from College Station to Houston before they give the clue. However, I don't spend a lot of time downtown so I'm not sure I'll understand the clue well. My current phone is an LG Dare and it refuses to load this forum past like the first 5 posts per page

kk, even if it's in Tampa, I'll still drive there. It would be too close not to, even if I am not 1st.

I have a friend that lives in naples, he will be getting a text from me if 1 drops there. :) i have a few friends in different areas of the phones, hoping that helps me.

Hey, don't feel so bad...my T-Mobile Sidekick can't load php at all. So, I can't use any of these forums from my cell. >.<;;; I can't wait to find the certificate for #6 and have a cool phone. ^_^

Lol. I prolly saw you. I left my house (2 hours from San Francisco) 6 minutes after they posted the message about lombard street..

I drove end to end each way 3 times.. God I hate that hill! Went to coit tower, asked the Asian guy working the gift shop if he new anything about designate #3, he looked at me like I was an idiot. Checked the pay telescope as well.. Tried the Verizon store on lombard, it was closed, looked all over and through the windows for a note. Only car parked near it was a beat up old van so I didn't think that was it.. We even walked into the Radio Shack on Lombard, again nothing.. I got my wife to let me out on our last trip down and went inside the two open houses that were going on, nothing!

We tried driving off a number of the side streets of Lombard, checked billboards, buses, bus stops and vehicles and saw absolutely nothing!!! There was at least 10 ads for the Evo on Lombard but nothing for the X not even in the window of the Verizon store. All in all I'm pretty disappointed but at least my wife was a great sport about the whole thing!

Thanks dear! ;)
Wish I'd been on this site b4 I went 2 SF 2x and covered the same route as everyone else...got home after 2nd try yesterday (walked the whole last part of lombard 2 embarcadero and checked between every rock on all paths @ coit tower! LOL, got home 2 find rules posted....realized wasted 5+ hours up there...yesterday alone after 50mile drive 2 times...
btw the quite sure that cybernetic clue is only regarding the terminator series and ties 2 sf--terminator salvation was made after arnold went into office...skynet was based in SF...

My husband was too, didn't even blink when I went back yesterday as it appeared no one had found it...

I've been following the thread for a while now and am just now getting into the mix. I've been doing some thinking about the set-up and I'd like to get your thoughts on this.

1. The posts that came out pre-rules aren't exactly out the window. They said #4 would be in NY and it was.

2. Looking at that, I'm thinking the whole Dallas thing was a set-up, a trial run to verify what they could expect when the actually give the certs out.

3. The NY giveaway was at the end of a long dock - and that makes sense. They're going to want to see people coming, so wide open spaces (parks) might not be the best places. Following parks out the window are downtown areas, the crew wouldn't want to be surprised by people coming up behind them. If they are going to film it and watch what happens, we should expect them to be in places where they can easily see us coming. So you can expect them to be waiting at the end of a long...something.

The NY one wasn't in Times Square, Broadway, or any of the other touristy places. I'm guessing, then, that Downtown Houston is out. Any ideas?

Seems like a lot of these are near large bodies of water.. Maybe docks will be a theme. ;)

I only see the logo on a VZW store in the Mission. Not sure that really fits with the clues at all though, as there is nothing around that area that would lead me to believe its connected to Lombard st, cybernetics, or high altitude.

went into that store on 7-4 no clue as to the search...

think the cybernetics has to do with terminator series," skynet" was based in SF in the final terminator salvation, made after arnold took office--it just was a clue that it was in SF, not mt view(shoreline & google being there, I even looked @ alta av google b4 the clue about lombard came out as I didn't follow the terminator series...

For those of you not in San Francisco, Lomabard St goes from Coit Tower to the Presidio. A few of us went from the crooked part to Coit and found nothing. When I was at Coit, I looked thru a pay telescope and saw something red...got excited for half a second before realizing it was a red balloon floating outside an apartment window...not a Droid eye. I looked up, down and freaking sideways. Nothing. I have a strong feeling that Coit is the place, but I just couldn't find it. It's high, plenty of places to hide it, it's at the end of Lombard St...who knows? Hopefully, we all will very soon.

I bet we don't get any more specific clues until the weekend when more hunters are free to run out like maniacs looking for the phones!:D

After seeing where the phone in NY was found it really didn't seem to fit the clues given just wondering if it pointed 2 SF, guess it really doesn't matter to me, i am going camping 4 a week and won't have opportunity unless posts tomorrow and it is mid day... even then, i'm over an hour away and probably gone b4 i get there.

Hey everyone, this is Francis, the guy that found the 1st Droid. People have been wondering how I found the phone so fast. I actually didn't find it 6 minutes after the GPS coordinates were posted. Verizon posted a tweet several minutes prior with actual hints (this tweet was then deleted and replaced with the GPS coordinate, sometime during my bike ride over to the location). I work a few blocks away, and after figuring out the general destination by doing some googling work using "Long Time" and piers/docks, it led me to pier 66 where there was an industrial sculpture called "Long Time". I casually biked over there, took some time walking around the wrong pier, and then made my way to the actual sculpture. I looked in the map bin because that was another clue given in the tweet about "needing a map". The certificate was in there. I then proceeded to read the certificate, which told me to find a person nearby with a Verizon logo. There were several "tourists" on the pier, which turned out to be undercover Verizon employees who congratulated and filmed me after I handed the certificate over. I was totally surprised cause I expected to just find a certificate which I'd have to redeem at a local Verizon store. But it was a much bigger production, which shouldn't have been a surprise if i had read the terms and conditions, as they mention videotaping and whatnot for marketing purposes. Anyways, that's pretty much it...
