"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

I've been following the news on the Droid X in general, as I've been planning on switching over from the iphone/ATT to Droid/Verizon. However, I only found out about the droid landing twitter account this morning. I don't really tweet or follow tweets, but the contest info popped up during a google search. But yes, they do give you the physical phone on site. I have it here right now, but won't be able to activate it for another week or so when my contract expires...

Wow, you lucky SOB! lol
You have no idea how much effort people in here have been putting into this... (well, you can see we're at page 72 now!) And you find out about it this morning and get one?!
Haha that's exactly what everyone was afraid would happen!

Oh well, you found it fair and square... Sucks that you have to wait a week to activate it... Enjoy it!

Oh, and congrats on your upcoming baby! LOL (unless the prego wife part wasn't accurate.. :P )

No offense, but it figures that someone that didn't even know about the event until today would find it LOL. Look how many pages this frickin thread is, pages 1-55 were all for nothing! Although it was kinda fun trying to figure out all the tweets that ended up being pointless at the time lol...

I hear that! Crazy -- but I'm still holding out hope for on in VA!

PS I dont have a smartphone! so no gps help for me... perhaps someone can help me in the search real time when the Massachusetts Droid is called? like maybe call me and walk me through it all?

There are a lot of people that are more than happy to help out in that way... Somebody even had a conference call line set up to help people earlier!

I don't understand why everyone is saying they deleted the clue about the docks before they gave the coordinates. It is still on my twitter page and I have refreshed several times.

I had that happen yesterday. The clue for w/ Cubs/Sox reference showed up on my home page, but not on the Droidlanding page. Apparently it stays on your home page even if it's deleted on their page...

heh. sorry about that... although, if it makes you feel any better, I am stuck with a $50 Best Buy card cause I literally pre-ordered the phone yesterday. can i at least get some credit for finding the phone based on actual hints??

I laughed. That's great luck right there. hahah
Congrats on getting it still. :D

No way. I'm in MA too and I'll run you over to get the droid first.

Though, I'm an hour away from boston and plymouth so it will probably be found before I can even get there

I am in lakeland florida so I guess between all of us we have the majority of florida covered. I can make it to tampa or orlando within an hour so I may have a chance if we get the two hour head start tweet. My guess is its in miami thou :(

I have a proclamation!
If I get the x then someone on this thread gets my brand new devour!

Glta!!!

No kidding. Totally lame.

So I went to try and get it today in NYC. When the first hint came out, I called and asked my mom about it. She suggested going to Chelsea Pier. I got a cab, and went there. I wandered around there for a while, when the coordinates came out. I looked at this thread to see if someone had converted them, and found a pair. They seemed to be real, as they lead to a location 2 miles southish of where I was. I ran there, only to get the tweet that the phone had been found when I did get there. I was somewhat disappointed and went home. While in the cab back to Penn Station, I saw a sign for Pier 59, then Pier 60 in the OPPOSITE direction that I went. I just now looked up the location of Pier 66, only to find that it was hardly a 5 minute jog from where I had initially been dropped off at Chelsea Pier. That makes me sad. :( Curse inaccurate GPS coordinates in this thread. :P

Oh, and congrats Francis!

I think you used the ones from JoelR. His logic was right, but the numbers were off a bit. When I got home, I plugged the ones from the tweet into my GPS and it was dead on the ones that pop up online. Guess I'll have to carry it into SF this weekend and refresh my twitter home page every few seconds when they tell us to get ready in case they "delete" a clue before coordinates are sent! Hope the kids aren't napping at that time :)

IF I weren't going to keep it, I would def throw it on ebay before they even go on sale and do a 1-3 day auction, you'd make bank from someone that was impulsive! oh wait, I didn't say that, pm me, lol.

I posted this when the clue regarding the docks and "Long Time" was posted:

"I'm assuming there is a place in NYC near the docks where you can grab a map? It could be hidden in the maps? I don't know. I've been following this all day and can't help but speculate. I'm just glad it isn't coords."

I'm pretty proud that I got the map part right!

No...I think I typed my last statement wrong. I am NOT in MA... I meant I can help navigate someone who is there who might not have a GPS.
I may need some help for #8 (hopefully in Huntsville). I am an hour away and will be running with my wheelchair-bound son. (He hangs with me whatever I do...love that boy!) Anyway, I have an extremely unreliable GPS! May not get the opportunity to go for it, but it sure has been fun following this forum! I'm a real newbie to all of this!!!:D

Hate the deleted clue... hope that isn't a pattern. Still think that it might be @civic center plaza as they were sponsoring the world cup there, just wish my gps hadn't died after driving all the way up there...
nance--good luck
