Root Amon RA vs Clockwork recovery

What're the differences? Advantages?

Clockwork has been working flawlessly for me so I don't plan to switch, but Amon Ra's recovery keeps coming up in threads I'm reading.

If you use Fresh ROMs, Flipz' Fresh Updater requires the Amon RA recovery image to flash ROMs, themes and updates (you can easily swap from Clockwork Recovery to Amon RA and back with ROM Manager). Last month, there were posts at other sites questioning whether Clockwork was performing a proper Dalvik cache wipe. I don't know if these issues have been resolved or not, but the scripts used in Fresh Updater are still incompatible with Clockwork.

Thanks! So is it just safer and easier to flash over Amon RA and leave it if I plan to stick with Fresh? Is there a further need for Clockwork?

It's all personal preference. IMO, FU and RM are both excellent apps and worthwhile to keep on my phone. RM is a good way to find ROMs from multiple sources, so more often than not, I use Clockwork. I'm currently running Fresh053, so if I want to check up on new Fresh ROMs, themes, or tweaks, I go into RM first, flash Amon, then open up FU.

IIRC, Amon RA is stricter about needing signed packages; Clockwork will flash any ol' thing. Also, Amon RA stubbornly holds to using Vol Up + Vol Down as the function for Go Back in his menus, even though this is a pain on phones such as the Evo where the volume switch is a rocker. A minor complaint, albeit a common one.

the amon-ra version im using does not require vol up + down to return, mine actually has a return option to select.
