"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Lol, I can do footrace, but not big enough for a tackling competition. Yeah, unless you're actually within the vicinity of SF, there really is no point (Secretly trying to con you out of participating in the contest to eliminate competition:p)

Haha we'll see about that...... I may or may not go. depends on what kind of clues they give. If they tell us in advance I may spend the day in SF-- like if they say something like #3 in ___ days or something. Otherwise I don't think it will be worth the small chance of making it in time.

Aside, for the Boston X - funny.... Saturday will be Boston's BEER MARATHON. 2nd biggest pub crawl in the world. 26 beers at 26 bars.

If that Droid X wants to decide between the Boston "Tea" Party or "Beer", it would be perfect for tomorrow.

HOPEFULLY people are busy drinking beers than looking for a phone! ;)

If it's in Seattle, it's all your's buddy cause I'm not dealing with that city for a damn phone...I'd rather pay my $100 for it.

But if it's anywhere south, down to Oly...I'll be racin' ya.

Yea It's gonna be up north lol, and I know, I hate Seattle too!!! but new tweet just came out saying aviation factories....Boeing anyone?!? :D

Looks like I'll be spending the night in my car near one of those factories in a few days.

Looks like it's all you now! We have some smaller machine shops down here that do work for Boeing and other aviation companies, but nothing that I would call an "Aviation Factory". Good luck!

Yeah man, I was hoping they'd do that for #3, but for some reason, it hasn't happened. I'm not sure it means anything, but could it possible signify that SF will happen today? Either that or next week near the end of the contest.

Sounds like a reasonable connection. I was thinking Boston immediately after I saw tea, but didn't know there was a beer marathon

From the first clues about Ben, I thought it would be at Independence Hall or, ridiculously, at his grave or something. It wasn't until the coordinates were released and I saw it was so friggin close to me, that I went for it.

At least i'm 99% sure it was that red eye that was hidden. I mean, that's what the guy was holding when he had the phone, so I'm assuming that was what was hidden, but don't quote me officially on that.

And as to "hidden", it wasn't exactly like under a rock or something, it was just in a little corner alcove, as opposed to being taped to Ben Franklin's face or something. So I wouldn't consider "hidden" to be correct, just not "out in the open".

Any idea on how many people were there looking for it?

Haven't got the tweet to my phone yet...effing Twitter:mad:, scratch that, text came through as I typed this.

But...Everett, Renton, Auburn...pretty spread out...we shall see...next clues will hopefully narrow it down. Renton or Auburn may be doable for me, but I ain't dealing with Seattle or North of it. Clue just says near aviation, so I bet it's downtown Seattle...Hammering Man (he's a droid like robot) or maybe the Fremont Troll???

I'm surprised they're still keeping with this 1 phone/day business. Are they trying to back-heavy the contest and have like 4 phones in a day near the end?

You know, I was thinking about the two that were found. The one in NYC was really off the beaten path...not a popular pier/dock, I don't think. The Philly phone was dead smack in the middle of a tourist trap. Maybe thinking that a "wide open" or "too crowded" area won't matter to these guys. Let's hope at least 1-2 more are found so we can determine a pattern and narrow down locations in known cities before they reveal "our" phones, whichever ones they may be. ;)

Yeah it's entirely possible the red eye was in a white envelope, but I feel like that would make it a little harder to notice. Like if I'm walking around and see a white envelope, how do I know it's for the contest or not, you know? I just think the red eye would be easier for the hunters to see.

And as for me walking past it several times, I walked past the "area" it was in several times, not the actual cert itself. The statue was in a rotunda, and off to the left and right sides were little side alcoves, and it was in the alcoves the cert was, and where I walked past.

As to how many people there were, I passed about 2/3 while wandering around like an idiot, and when we were all gathered around the winner, there were about 2/3 others with me. I'd say in total, a little over half a dozen were looking for it. Of course, there could have been a lot more that were not as noticeable.

Congrats rlw889!!!

Hey so how many cameramen where there? Are they easy to spot? Are they carrying giant cameras like the camera guys on the news? Or is it just some handheld camera?

I guess what I'm asking is: Was it really obviously that a bunch of cameras were set up for hunt?

Yea I'm waiting on the next clues to narrow it down as well. Losing this phone is not an option....AT ALL.

So far I've gathered five friends to help me look for the phone, (all agreeing to give it to me it they find it)... I just really can't see how I'm going to lose.

I'm running this like a CIA operation.

they haven't given an upcoming date for #7 is the clue so its probably going to announced today plus the times difference on the west coast means its like 2:30 or 3:30 there right now so they still have time today
Never mind it says in 5 days

so when they give some details for #12 ....can u guyys give me a heads up? id like to give you guys my cell# im about 30 mins from cleveland...and i will drive there as soon as they give that "head start"" clue......and then hopefully get some texts while im on the way there with a location :)

And also...for those of you who have windows 7 or vista, (not quite sure if it works on Vista), download the Tweetz gadget and place it on your desktop and set the refresh inteval in settings to 1 min. Guaranteed the number one way to get the tweets first while at home. Twidroid is my app of choice while on the go for Android users--I get the tweets within seconds always.

Arrrrrg. Yeah, my cousin gave me a phone call today and was like "you HAVE to go to the beer marathon!!!" So that's where I'll be. I'm hoping that it will be near Fenway so I can take a quick ten minute break to win a free phone...Oh well, first in line for pre-orders isn't so bad.

The tweet mentioned in five days

Let's hope they do this before afternoon rush hour... from the time I spent around your area (mostly Ft. Lewis, some time seattle) if they announce this after 4:00-4:30 I-5 will be worthless to get to Boeing.

There was only one camera person there, and they had a handheld personal camcorder. In fact, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary about the reps. The only thing was the Motorola rep was wearing a suit, so they weren't dressed in a noticeable fashion and they just blended in with the crowds.

And I remember hearing them asking the winner if he could stick around for a bit, as they wanted to interview him on camera and such. So I'm guessing that once the contest is over, they're gonna release all this footage (and I hope my shot at fame makes it in).

To recap #3 for SF hunters:
- Should be at Higher altitude. June 24
- Near the West Coast. Hunters advised to start at shoreline and work inland. June 26
- In CA. Greatest cybernetic machine since Arnold came to office. June 27
- Is using all its 1Ghz processing power just to navigate Lombard St. July 4

We haven't seen or heard about it since 7/4. If we were to guess locales, do we go with the high altitude clue for places to start thinking about?

Hell...it'll be worthless about anytime of day if you aren't less than 5 miles away when they announce the clue before the coordinates. Traffic is brutal round these parts.

I just had a funny thought- my employer has planes landing at Boeing field a few times a day... I wonder if I can hitch a ride with one of them? :D
