"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

So yeah, I work in Philly about 5 blocks from where the phone was. As soon as the coords went out, I left work and ran to the Institute. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, so I walked around the outside of the building, checked the little park across the street, and checked inside (which was free to get into). I walked past the Franklin statue that they took his picture at, and looked around the inside a little. Checked back outside some more. As I was heading back in, I heard someone coming out saying it was in a corner and a guy had found it. So I went back into the statue room, and saw the guy with the certificate and all the people standing around him.

It turns out, it was hidden a little alcove that I completely walked past several times. The reps there even told me they watched me go past a couple of times. If I turned my head, I could have easily gotten it. I was focusing on the people though, and looking for someone in a Motorola or Verizon shirt, and completely ignored the room itself.

So the winner got his phone, and the reps had a camera and was filming everybody who showed up and all. They asked us a few questions like What are you looking forward to most about the X, where did you come from to get here, etc, and had us sign waivers so they could use the footage. Also, they had a few X's with them that they gave to us to play with, which was pretty cool. And while we were playing with the X's, a rep from Motorola came up and introduced himself and gave us each a $20 gift card to Verizon, saying it was so we didn't leave empty handed. They told us, hey at least you got a gift card, and I told them, "Yeah but I'd rather a Droid X", at which point they paused, turned the camera on, and asked me to repeat that. So hopefully I'll make the final cut of the footage.

I didn't get a chance to play with the X that long, because I had just totally ditched work to run out here and had to get back, but as I was leaving I heard them saying that once the traffic by the statue died down, they would take his picture there, as you saw they posted.

So yeah, to all you hunters out there, you're not looking for a person, but the red Droid eye with the number on it. Don't make my mistake and lose your chance on it.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Ah sorry for your luck but thanks for the tips on what to look for. Don't lose too much sleep over it tonight and we'll all get to enjoy them come next Thursday.

So we are looking for a "hidden" document that looks like this?

Yeah that's *exactly* what you are looking for (wish I knew beforehand).

I'm not too mad about it (because I already have one pre ordered at Best Buy), but it still would have been nice to have won. Especially knowing that it EASILY could have been me.

As just a reference for the time it took, I left work the minute the tweet went out, and it took about 10 minutes to get there, and after about 10 minutes of blindly wandering, I saw the winner with it. So from coords to win was about 20 minutes, give or take. So if you're planning on travelling a bit to get there, don't get your hopes up too much, because it might be gone already.

Which tweet made you go? The clue about Ben or the coordinates?

its good to know that they are actually hiding the certificates now...i think yesterday the guy said it was tied to the railing of the pier...oh man i think i have to take off work to try and find the one in buffalo...i really shouldn't tho...gonna be a real busy week next week

So who else is trying after #3? I want to know my competition:p

(Sorry I haven't been posting Mahers. Been busy and when I did have time to check, the thread was moving too fast for me)

A part of me really wants to go for it but, I doubt I will. If we got plenty of heads up like some of these tweets telling us what day it'll be then the drive wouldn't matter but, I'm not the guy you call when you're looking to have a foot race or a pushing competition lol!

From the first clues about Ben, I thought it would be at Independence Hall or, ridiculously, at his grave or something. It wasn't until the coordinates were released and I saw it was so friggin close to me, that I went for it.

At least i'm 99% sure it was that red eye that was hidden. I mean, that's what the guy was holding when he had the phone, so I'm assuming that was what was hidden, but don't quote me officially on that.

And as to "hidden", it wasn't exactly like under a rock or something, it was just in a little corner alcove, as opposed to being taped to Ben Franklin's face or something. So I wouldn't consider "hidden" to be correct, just not "out in the open".

Lol, I can do footrace, but not big enough for a tackling competition. Yeah, unless you're actually within the vicinity of SF, there really is no point (Secretly trying to con you out of participating in the contest to eliminate competition:p)

So it could have been in a white envelope then?

OMG I CANNOT POSSIBLY WAIT ANY LONGER!!! I'm about to have an anxiety attack! seriously though...as soon as #7 comes along, I'm all over it!!...c,mon lucky number 7 =]

As of yesterday's finding of #4, I actually am feeling quite light headed. Had to even take myself to the Dr today to check it out...this f'ing "hunt" is making me sick, literally!!! I may have to bow out!

WOOP, don't get any ideas yet! If I aint dead, and it's close, it's on baby!

If I can't find it, I'm gonna at least try to stick with someone who seems like they know what they're doing so the Verizon reps can say the we both found it at the exact same time and they draw to see who wins. Man, so much strategy...I honestly don't see me going home without a new Droid X! =]

Lol, well I used to run pretty fast. Could do my 2 mile PT test in the 10:50's. On the plus side, I could get a great parking space and not have to worry about feeding the meter. If only I had a better idea of where it was gonna be at exactly :D

Ah, so he had the phone and the cert already when you saw it? So they could have handed them both those after he found whatever was "hidden"
May have been plain white paper...if it was, sorry Chris for the accusation of lying.:o

If it's in Seattle, it's all your's buddy cause I'm not dealing with that city for a damn phone...I'd rather pay my $100 for it.

But if it's anywhere south, down to Oly...I'll be racin' ya.
