Help way too easy to call 911

when the phone is locked i find its way to easy to accidentally call 911. after having a sheriff show up at my house i really need to find a fix. i like the whole pattern to unlock and everything. i dont understand why there arent more steps to confirm you want to dial 911.

im not interested in lock 2.0 and havent found other apps either.

is there a fix anyone knows about. is it easy to call 911 in 1.6 or 2.0?

How do you call 911 when the phone is locked? Admittedly, I've only had the phone for a week+, but I've yet to make an accidental call. I've experienced the accidental "cheek mute" once, but that's it.

when locked the emergency call button dials it. also since you click menu to unlock its easy to hit that button at the same time.

I sure would like to know where the hell the emergency button is located, I can't find any documentation for it and it sure as hell isn't anywhere "MY" menu button.

It only shows up when you have the lock pattern enabled, and yes I've hit it accidentally myself but killed the call before it got out both times.

it only shows when the phone is locked. when locked after the phone is turned on there is button called emergency call underneath the pattern.

For those that dont know what he is talking about, you HAVE to have the lock pattern set in order to see the emergency call button. Which is placed right above the Sammy logo on the display.

i thought i stopped it too, but they have called me back. shows up in my call log too as a zero second duration also.
Might just be better to skip the pattern lock on the phone unless you have to have it to protect government secrets or something.

It beats calling 911 over and over again.

So, all you gotta do is disable the stupid lock pattern I had that on my Droid for the 24 hrs I had it-- it sure was a PITA. I guess what I don't understand is why folks need an unlock pattern?

so you let other people read your emails, sms, etc...? imagine what a lost unlocked phone could do. thief can get reset password emails no problem, call from your number etc...

friends can get your phone and send nasty messages to your signifigant other, and so many more jokes im too lazy to type.

Sounds to me like you need new friends.

I dont use the pattern lock. I suppose, if I were to ever lose my phone, the person that found it could read my email and text messages and browse my photos, but thats pretty much it. Its highly unlikely that I'll lose my phone though. Im not the kind to set it down somewhere and forget about it and its a bit too big to jump out of my pocket or be stolen.

And as much as I use my phone, I'd miss it rather quickly if it were to ever become lost or stolen. Wouldnt take much to call Sprint and shut off the phone.

Of course, if thats not enough for you, perhaps you should invest in a remote wipe app.

SMobile Anti-Theft for Android : Android Software™ : Handango is one. No clue how well it works, but its an option.

agreed i dailed 911 three times today on the job. hopefully when the phone gets rooted thatll be one less problem to worry about.

I don't have "friends" that would send nasty emails to my-- No I don't have a significant other, I have a wife. Sorry to hear you have those kind of friends to be worried about. I sure am glad I don't have anything to hide that I would put on my phone. And I sure as hell wouldn't use gmail for anything I "would" have to worry about.

You might be, but I cant hold it anymore.

Heres to hoping he was inside so the AGPS wasnt working properly. :D At least this way, they wont be able to find him.
You're right EDAZE I might have been a little too tough on the ding dong.

I dont know that I would go that far. And neither should you. Joking, kidding, ribbing, all acceptable. Flat out insulting, not good.

You may want to edit that. Im just sayin'.

i was just giving out plausible scenarios thus the generic significant other comment . i guess /b/ ***** are everywhere, its all good.

im in IT security, give me five minutes with your email account. youd be suprised the damage that can be done. ive seen it. saw what happened to the twitter ceo? but hey i get paid to be paranoid thats all good too.

back to the ot, so when we get root is there a way to disable the feature?

I've been talking about this problem frequently in the "Comprehensive list of known issues" thread. I too have fallen victim to the emergency button, several times. I hate it! And I need the lock, disabling it is not an option. Is there a way to resolve this? What is lock 2.0?

On the Hero, the emergency button takes you to the phone pad but you still have to dial a number. I tried just hitting the call button and it said I had to dial a number. I don't know about the Moment, but if your butt is that talented to dial 911 on the Hero, you should get it a manager! LOL
