"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Yesterday they said tht droid number 2 was masquerading in hollywood. Today they said tht it is in la la land. Hollywood and los angeles are two seperate cities no? Then would la la land be referring to the city or county? City...

Technically hollywood and LA are two separate cities but they are usually grouped together and considered one area. They are right next to each other and often used interchangeably.

La La Land is a generic reference to the LA area, which could include separate cities like West Hollywood, LA, Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills etc. Clues so far are also too generic and are at best regional. Specifics are yet to come.

The area is too big to race across once coordinates come out. It will be pure dumb luck if you just happen to be conveniently located close enough to run or bike over, because forget about driving and finding a parking place. Contest will be over by then.

Im about an hour south of LA and i agree totally with you. The person who gets the one here is just going to be lucky. There is definitely no time to drive somewhere and park after you get the clue and especially not after they give out the GPS. So it will totally be dumb luck for the person that gets #2.

I'll still give it a shot though. Im heading to LA monday morning after traffic dies down. I'll just pick a spot to hang out and hope Im close.

Hopefully they will give final clue afternoon. I'm off from work around 2, will drive from Beverley Hills towards Hollywood... so will see. Escape, may be we can grab a beer or something after hunt is over

Technically, again, because of taxes and what happens when you begin to actually do something on this scale... (research corporate responsibility, business ethics, and past cases involving class action lawsuits against illegally run contests [past contest deadlines]...)

They're seriously sending themselves into hot water with this. And, if it meant a chance for a free Droid X...I'd jump right onto any lawsuit. lol Again, once we pass "11:59:59 ET on July 15, 2010" all of those legal disclaimers and tax values expire. The "Sponsor and its Parties" would be 100% liable for pretty muh anything, including if I accidentally crashed my car while participating in this contest. lol ^_~ I'm just saying...Verizon's legal department would fire the entire promotions department. lol

Maybe you should read all the rules, particularly #5, I'll repost most of it for you:

The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Promotion if it is not capable of running as planned, including, but not limited to, infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures (where clues could not be posted) or any other problems beyond the control of the Sponsor (including cancellation of Scavenger Hunt) and award the applicable prizes that were claimed/awarded prior to cancellation and the remainder of prizes will go un-awarded. Prize winners and all entrants, as a condition of participation in the Promotion, agree to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its Parties and each of their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, and employees will have no liability or responsibility for any claim arising in connection with participation in the Promotion or any prize awarded. Prize winners assume all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by participation in the Promotion, the receipt, ownership or use of prize awarded or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or the announcement of offering of the prizes. Void where prohibited and subject to all federal, state and local laws. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission to use the winner

Man that sucks #20 was found about 1 mile from where I live; infact around 2:30pm I was about 100 feet from that location as I was treking to the post office.

It depends what time it all goes down. I work nights so i have to start heading back home before traffic gets out of control. As you know an hour drive on the 5 south could easily turn into a 3 or 4 hour adventure.

i wonder if they are going to do the hunts on sunday? im still waiting for information on #6 at least one of the clues stating so many days until the hunt.

Is this accurate? Saw i on @droiddecoder

"@design_flaw Certificates aren't placed until the GPS coordinates are tweeted. "

Yes. that is correct, and stated in the official rules. I just wish that as soon as the co-ords were tweeted, all you had to do was to run to the location and find a guy in a Verizon shirt holding the certificate..no looking in traps or boxes...but I guess it would be too easy if it were done like that.

Well the clue before hand can put you in the general location. So if you get there soon enough just watch everyone and see if anyone hides something.

Also if you're there early you can search the area to see what would be a good hiding place.

so does anybody wanna get together on tuesday and search for the x in Nashville? I'll be taking my wife to work in Murfreesboro

I would say sure, but how would you want to decide who gets the phone? Finder of the certificate gets it?

I will be coming up from GA, plan on getting there around 9 AM, will have to leave here about 6.

Just a suggestion, but whoever would have to pay more for the phone at upgrade keeps the phone. The keeper of the phone pays the other half of what their phone is going to cost. None of my business, but I just had that thought when I thought about teaming up with someone. :)

There's a dock very near Griffin's wharf in Boston, commonly thought of as the site of the Tea Party. The dock is at the end of a park, a wide open space that would give them plenty of control and allow them to manage the crowd. Thoughts?

Um....I called this yesterday without any clues. Damn.

I don't get an upgrade, I have to pay full retail, that is why I don't mind driving as far as I am for a chance to win. If he can upgrade for $200, I would gladly give him $100 for the phone.

Or we work together to find the location, and then every man (or woman) for themselves finding the certificate at the location.

Just a random thought but to anyone who is questioning the legality of this contest and thinks there are possibly loop holes or ways to go after Verizon regarding this contest...No offense, but I find it comical that you think a large corporate company like Verizon Wireless would run a contest of this nature and not have every single "i" dotted and "t" crossed. Let's be reasonable here, they pay people in their legal department large salaries to sit in an office all day long and make sure they have nothing to worry about before they even consider bringing a promotion of this nature into their marketing department.

On a side note...I called my local Verizon Wireless store this afternoon asking if they have a demo of the phone in the store yet. The Verizon employee said:

"I'll be honest with you...we do have one...but we're not supposed to show it to anyone."

How that makes sense I will never know.

I'm still trying to decide if this hunt is worth it...I mean the phone can't be rooted, and i do that A LOT with my droid...I'll probably just end up selling it or just help someone else find it..

Let's go team delta!!!!!!!!!!!! FTW BABY!!!!!

I'll be following this blog if anybody gets a better location/idea of the location than we'll probably jump on it - please refrain from posting stupid stuff (like you think the location is by the cherry blossoms / tidal basin because that's a powerful area) we just find it humorous :) good luck to the rest of you out in DC tomorrow. I'll be posting live from the location after one of us wins it and will be happy to post pictures and the strategy that was involved.

I can be reached directly on twitter @kellyshock if any of you want to catch the world cup / drink a beer with the crew afterward.
