Who's getting a one year contract/agreement?

I don't have a family plan, I have an individual account. So for me a 1 year contract would cost more up front but allow me to upgrade a phone in 10 months? And a 2 year would allow me to upgrade in 12 months? Is the 2 months the main difference aside from being locked into verizon service for another year?

On an individual plan, if you sign a 2-year contract I thought you have to wait 20 months for a phone upgrade?

Why get a one year contract when you can have annual upgrades on the 2-year one? So by next August i'll be able to upgrade to whatever awesomeness is out there

Is there any incentive, when signing up with a 2-line family plan, to go with a 1-year over 2-year? With a 2 year agreement, primary gets a new phone every year, then the second line gets an upgrade in 20 months. I'd like both lines to get upgrades every year if possible.

As a potential new Verizon customer switching from AT&T, I was really confused. The only thing I know for sure is that I can sign a 2-year contract and get the Droid X for $200. Other than that, I've read so many different things that there doesn't seem to be a consistent answer for the following:

1) Both my local Best Buy and my local Verizon store stated that they will NOT be doing 1-year contracts. Best Buy said they can only do 2-year or full retail. Verizon said they will not be doing 1-year contracts for the first 3 months the Droid X is being sold. However, I've read on here that some Best Buy's are doing 1-year as well as Verizon corporate stores. SO I really don't know if I'll be able to sign a 1-year or not come launch day?

2) If I sign a 2-year on 7/15, I don't know when I'll be eligible again for upgrade pricing? Some say it is 20 months, some say it is 12 months. AT&T has tiered upgrade pricing: if you sign a 2-year, you are eligible for the $200 upgrade price after 18 months, but you can also do a partial upgrade price of $400 sooner than that. If I buy the Droid X on 7/15, when will I be eligible for the cheapest upgrade price?

3) If I sign a 1-year, I've read that I'll be eligible for upgrade pricing in 10 months. But nobody seems to know what the price of the phone will be for sure at Verizon or Best Buy? Is it $270? Is it $370?

I want to make sure I do the right thing come launch day. I'd prefer doing a 1-year contract, but if neither BB nor Verizon will do one for me, I might have to do a 2-year. And I'm not against doing a 2-year if I can get the $200 upgrade pricing in 12 months. But 20-24 months is WAY too long. If there was an intermediate upgrade price of $400 or so, then I'd still be okay with a 2-year contract. But paying $600-700 a year from now is out of the question.

Any suggestions?

So it doesn't matter if you are on an individual account or the primary line on a family account? You can still get the 12 month upgrade price of $200 after 12 months as long as you are the primary line? Is there anywhere on their website that states this?

I'm switching from a family account on AT&T. I will be setting up a single line for now to try out the Droid X during the 30-day trial. If I decide to keep it, I will be moving 2 other lines from AT&T to Verizon.

So if I do it this way, are you saying I'll be able to upgrade my Droid X in 12 months at the $200 price?

Yeah, I think as long as you are a "member" of myverizon and the primary on the line.

No, it was my understanding that an individual line that signs a 2 year contract has to wait 2 years (20 months) for a phone upgrade. Can you really consider it the "primary" line if it's an individual plan? This could be wrong, I'm not 100% sure either.

Oh...right. I never thought about that.

I hadn't heard that verizon wouldn't be doing 1 year contracts for this first 3 months. They didn't do that for the Incredible or anything else to my knowledge, so I would assume they wouldn't do it for the X.

I just wanted to throw this out there. The corporate location near me said that when Verizon sends out promotions (early phone upgrade, etc) they always go to customers with a clean record of no late payments. Kind of a no brainer I guess, just something I found interesting.

i am definitely getting a 1 year contract. 2 years is too long to have one phone. plus we all know the droid pro is coming. it will take everything in my power not to switch to it in nov. :-)

wth the droid pro is coming in november?!?

oh and to an earlier post.. is it confirmed that verizon isn't offering 1 year plans for the droid x in the first 3 months? i haven't heard anything about that.

Either that guy is getting bad information from his verizon store or new shit has come to light. hopefully the former.

I would suggest you call Verizon and ask them, that way you can be sure. You could go into a Verizon store, but I think calling would give you better answer and probably friendlier service...

just my 2 cents. :)

I just checked the verizon web site, it is showing the Incredible at $199 with 2 year contract or $229 with 1 year contract (only $30 difference?)
But for all other 3g smartphones, it shows a $70 difference between 1 year and 2 year contract prices.
Anyone know why the Incredible only has a $30 difference? Any chance the X would only have a $30 difference between a 1 year and 2 year? :) (wishful thinking)

Showing $269 for me.

Full Retail Price $529.99 Price with 1yr contract $369.99 Online Discount - 100.00 Your Price $269.99

I still can't decide if I want a 1-year or 2-year agreement. Since it's my wife and I on a family plan, I'll already be illegible for a phone upgrade every year. I guess there's really no incentive to go 1-year unless I planned to leave Verizon. 2-year also eliminates the $35 activation. So I'll save $105 and still get a phone upgrade in either 10 or 12 months.

1 year upgrade here.

I use my companies discount. I'm hoping since it's an upgrade from a 1 year contract that expired last June I'll only have to pay $30 more. The Droid and Eris were that way originally.

Right now the Droid is $70 more for 1 year and the Incredible is only $30 more. I'm thinking (hoping) it's because the Droid has been discounted ($149) since it's approaching it end of service.

I bought an Incredible with 1 year contract (which has since been returned). I'll try to clear up some things..

- The phone was available pre-order/day one with a 1 year contract
- The price was $269
- With a corporate discount on the account, the cost was reduced to $229
- Their website did not offer free activation Fri-Mon on the 1 year contract depsite the fine print not mentioning 2 years being required. I was able to get it removed from the bill by calling
- My upgrade date was only 8 months from the purchase date (Rather than the 20 months for NE2 or 12 months for the annual $49.99+ primary line upgrade)

Lots of people throwing in their 2 cents. From what I understand:
You should and will be able to obtain a 1 or 2 year contract for the Droid X via VZW. BestBuy should also have this ability.
Droid X - One Year Contract? - Verizon | Forums and Blogs - Verizon Community

BestBuy may be telling customers no because there is no pricing on it.

If you choose the two year option and you are the main line, you will be eligible for an annual upgrade in 1 year. However; you must be the main line. I am not sure if you have to do the two year or not... If you're the main line, then I would think you should be able to renew for an additional year. Meaning you will have two years left on your contract instead of one left.
