Gizmodo review is brutal... thinking twice now.

Motorola Droid X Review

Sitting here waiting for work to end to go pick up my DX I read this. Now I am thinking twice about this phone. Seems they are being honest rather than being blinded by the newest gadget syndrome. Maybe this thing isnt worth my time and i should just get a DInc?

don't listen to it, you don't even notice the motoblur, delete all the widgets if you dont like it, honestly I love it though....I loved my moto droid, but I love the droid x more, the screen is amazing and motoblur isn't anything like they make it sound.

I saw that article and then immediately went to find a DX.

I just came from a DI, and I don't want to even use it anymore.

that company just wants to get back in good grace with apple, and it shows in the article. It's a weak article, and you know it!

Well, they did state they had a pre-production unit and non-final firmware.

The Droid X's that i've used at various verizon stores have had none of the issues with software that Gizmodo pointed out.

I'm not saying its the greatest device on earth, but it only ever lagged a hair when i had motoblur widgets cover an entire homescreen. Camera was responsive, the UI was fine. It did hiccup a couple times, but my Droid Incredible does that too occassionally.

I'd recommend putting your hands on one in a store and check it out before you commit if you're worried.

The video reviews i've seen from phonedog, engadget and phandroid show smooth responce.

I wouldn't buy into much of that review.

To be quite frank, every site has their biases, but Gizmodo is notorious for its Apple fanboyism (both post and pre "iPhone 4 Prototype scandal").

Not to mention, the reviewer rips into the eFuse feature, when AT&T/Apple have just been as guilty regarding restricting certain Jailbroken features in the past and present.

Like I said, don't give the review, or Giz much weight in your decision to pick up the phone.

They don't like the 2.1. It's getting 2.2 next month, fwiw.

I think reviewer is scared of the goes-to-eleven raw machismo of the X. He should get some of that Old Spice body wash and maybe level-up his XY chromosomes! (swan dive!)

(sorry I think I've watched too many of the new old spice guy you tube videos this week)

Two things..Launcher Pro (even though I hear the original UI isn't a problem for most), and Froyo. /end of story.

This was the very first thing I downloaded to my X. It works great.

That being said I agree that no one should put much stock in that Giz review. They are still die hard apple fanboys at the end of the day.

They don't even deny it. In the Droid X review...

We've come to a strange little place with Android, and maybe with non-iPhone smartphones in general. For the first year or two after the iPhone, most phones wanted to be just like it. Now, it seems like they're running away from it, to remold themselves into something as un-iPhone-like as possible. The Droid X is at the X-treme end of that spectrum

People are that easily swayed? Go try the phone out for yourself if you don't like it don't get it. I'm not going to let one review make my mind up for me.

I'm sure Giz is also angry at the bootloader - hence the negative review.

I think that's most of it... stick it to Moto since they locked things down... grain of salt... I've found Giz's reviews to be more "political" than others...guess that's what comes from all the hassle and Pub with the Apple thing...

I have seen more objective reviews where the X wasnt the winner, best choice, etc.

Wow..... I have seen iPhone user reviews of the X that were more objective than that.

If u dont use the widgets, whats the problem?

I don't think it was that bad.
They seem to agree with me and google on one thing.
Stupid UI and overlays from HARDWARE manufactureres are killing the f'ing awesome OS.

I installed launcher pro as soon as I got my phone this morning. everything is freaking amazing. I have had a nexus one, motorola droid, htc hd2, and hands down this is the best so far. Gizmodo is a apple fanboy site that got their hand slapped when they outed the iphone 4. If you get your tech news from there then you probably shouldn't get the droid x. Ars Technica and even engadget are more balanced than gizmodo

though I love having a camera on a phone, it shouldn't be the number one thing. i felt that in this article, gizmodo was really, really disappointed with the camera. if people are disappointed with the camera (on the phone), then get a real point and shoot.

And with the encrypted bootloader we can't root and load a custom ROM.

I've taken some good pics with the camera, I don't see what the issue is with it.

I do not agree with the review and I have tested the X out. I am keeping my Inc mainly because the sound quality from the 3.5mm is better, the microsd is hot swappable and the signal reception is the same as the X. People were assuming the X would be a lot better (including me) with signal reception and is the same. Ironic.

Still, X is a great device and folks that buy it should love it.

One concern people are posting is the wifi appears to be weak on the X. I did not test this to confirm.
