Hi Jack,
I bought mine from Souq, which supposedly has 2 years warranty. Although I got the original documentation including 2 years warranty statement (that comes in the packaging), I did not get any bill of purchase.

The reason given to me was that the seller bought the phones in bulk from UK and he had only a single bill for all of them.
He told me I could claim warranty using just my IMEI number. I don't know if that would work, and I hope I never have to find out.

I have taken a printout of the souq.com bill and filed it just in case.

Regards.

cool, that sounds great !!
do you remember who was the seller, I can see only one seller who has it and his id is "uaekill"

cheers
thanks a bunch

I don't remember the guy's name but it wasn't uaekill and he isn't listed there right now.
I've had a look at uaekill's listing and it seems okay to me.. I think you can buy that safely.
Let me know how it goes and also if you're planning to get any accessories from somewhere. That's a pain in the neck, as they're not available in the UAE anywhere.

I had contacted HTC via their website to get information on the warranty issue,
I was told that the warranty doesnt work in the middle east at the moment, but it will be covered once the device gets an official launch in the middle east!

I'll be mostly going through souq, but first I need to sell my old phone (Nokia N900), once that is done then heeeeellllloooooooo sweeeet sweet Desire =P

as for the accessories, true that they can be a pain to acquire, but I'm cool with going through eBay, I don't mind waiting a while to get them delivered.

oh, that sounds cool, as for what I've learnt the HTC LEGEND and HTC DESIRE should hit the UAE market in Q3, we are already in Q3, probably next month should be the time..but I hope no one really has to use the Warranty.

Cheers

Hi Jack - and others querying on where to buy the Desire and Warranty. I bought mine from a shop in Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai called Sheeba - got this for 1950 AED with a 4GB card.

A caution though - I emailed HTC in UK and UAE asking for warranty - and their official statement is that they will not entertain warranty transfers or support warranty for handsets with origin from other countries... though they did so in previous cases by charging some 60-100 USD. My advice hence - dont land up paying extra for warranty since it wont be supported neways.

ohh, Sheeba electronics has the device? surprising... they too import from UK?

some one else here told that HTC here said once the device launches here, it will be supported !

guys, when it comes to warranty htc and other retailers will say yes warranty is covered in uae while others say it is not.
truth of the matter is, if you bought your phone from UK the warranty will be valid only in UK. i really doubt you will be covered in uae.

the ones that buy from local sellers here in uae, the warranty will be from HTC but where did the local seller buy from? it will be covered only in that country.
IMO i think it is pointless to talk bout warranty, if warranty is important to you i would seriously suggest you wait till it is launched here by HTC itself with arabic support and full warranty.

oh , nevermind i got the device for 1900 from a souq seller online !! its with me and loving it totally !! thanks a bunch guys, and hope to be more active in these forums !! Cheers

hi guys , my first post here it was really helpful discussion

i think tomorrow morning i will go to NASA and take a look at it

but till that time do u know if it is an official Arabic support from HTC or Google or the guys in NASA played with device root it and selling it !!!

i visited HTC Desire support page , nothing mentioned there about Arabic support

***

i hate rooting and cooked Roms

and i need android device with official Arabic support and available market
Jeddah - Saudi Arabia

After going through all the post in this tread i thought of writing this here which may be useful for other desire buyers here in UAE .

After Searching net i have find a online store in Dubai Online mobile phone store uae, dubai, qatar, kuwait, bahrin, oman ,i called them and ask them price which is aed 2600,and warranty, they offer me 12 months, To make sure there existence i took there address and went to there office ti have a look, and made sure that they are genuine.

I cam back home and bought my htc desire from mygsm.me,they have charged me 2600aed,with 12 month warranty,Also i have bought screen protector also for aed 25 ,this warranty is offered by them self, they said if anything happened to the phone in 12 month they are responsible either they will repair or replace, they they have given official document to prove it

So i am happy even though i paid few 100 mores i don't mint it as at least i have somebody responsible for my phone in UAE.

Above All are my view and I am not responsible for anything !!!!

Thank You guys

I am not so sure on details as I got mine as a gift and didn't actually buy it!

Anyway it was bought for me for 3200sr (ya i know very expensive)
the warranty is intact and it is working excellently. The Arabic on it is EXCELLENT i don't know if it is "official" or not but it works perfectly and so does the market and all the other features it is truly a wonderful phone.

I contacted NASA and they said that they just got the phones like a week ago and that more accessories are on the way!!

Hey all. Just a bit of news for all of you who own the desire here in Dubai. HTC has come out with the OTA update for the Desire to upgrade it to Froyo - which is of course the new build 2.2 for Android... the neatest things with it are HD Video recording @720p (beware Iphone 4.0) and apps can be stored on the sd now :-)

If any of you have the European handset, then u just need to go check for the updates in the settings, and it will allow you to download and install (make sure you use wifi and take a backup of contacts etc. )

All of you who have the asian build (or non European build) and are keen to get your hands on the new operating system ROM, can see this site from XDA developers - is the best and simplest method I could see to upgrade... I did it yesterday and am now rocking on Froyo :-)
Updating to Froyo for non-European unlocked/locked handsets. - xda-developers

Hi guys, I got mine from Dubizzle for 2300dhs without warranty,(warranty covers ur fone only for a year, and most phones survive the first year with no issues, unless you have the tendency to play around with the core parts of your phone). There were Desires for 2100 and 2200 too, but i wanted the SILVER one.. and i got it.. Been using for 2 weeks now.. and i LOVE it.. love the market place and variety of apps.. havent subscribed to a data plan yet.. with DU prepaid.. honestly dont feel like getting charged 200dhs by them and can wait a month till i get back to the US and continue using my data plan over there.. have already bought a bunch of covers, mirror screen protectors and compatible chargers.. overall a MAGICAL device..:D:D

its so slim, and very nice to hold.. and feels good to walk around in the mall and hold it in ur hand, coz u know that you have the best phone in the world (iphone 4 is a revolutionary vintage device and 6000dhs :P)
2.2 froyo updated.. smooth.. 720p recording is FTW.. HTC sense is a masterpiece.. although i advice to download Launcher Pro, and i have upgraded to the plus version.. i guess its 3$, it gives it a nice interface and the ability to switch with the HTc sense interface.. well thats it i guess. if you want to know more about the device or any issues, do let me know.
until then keep chillin :)

Hello!

I have both htc desire and Nexus One here in Kuwait.
I don't get any OTA updates related to Froyo. Is it a regional matter or it should come to any phone?

Did anyone around have any OTA's?

Even my phone did not notify me. Have to do it manually. Goto settings - about phone. And then system software updates. And then check for updates.
