HTC Desire UAE users

Guys,.....Congrats to all of u who have finally the masterpiece in their hands. Can someone please tell what is the procedure to follow when ordering from handtec....Within how many days will they ship the phone with accessories......is handtec better or expansys.....Plzz help!!:confused:

Hey, well i placed my order with handtec on 28th june, thats last monday, paid with a credit card, was told it will be delivered in 5 days, but i recieved it on thursday, the 3rd day after placing the order! thats 2 days early :p
i ordered the device, screen protector and a pouch. i wanted to order the USB charging cradle as well, but it was out of stock at that moment.
I choose handtec because its got stuff at cheaper prices compared to expansys, my advice to you would be to go with handtec!

does the voice search support Arabic??

No to all three questions.

Local language support is probably the reason why HTC is taking so long to launch the product in the middle east.

HTC the company did not Arabize the software on the desire. yet..
You can root the phone and install a cooked rom with Arabic language support.
I did that to my phone. more info here.

other choice if you prefer not to root or change the rom, install apps from the market that help read and write Arabic sms, browse Arabic sites..etc.
Look for free apps made by Aziz such as Mirsal for sms.

Google voice does not work with Arabic language, in my experience.

I really like this phone but i would rather have it supporting Arabic than me installing a ROM
I don't know if I should wait for it to come out here or if I should look for another phone..

Do you know if other HTC Android phones support Arabic?
If so, you can ask any dealer how long it took for that phone to be launched with Arabic, after it became available internationally.
 
Plzzzz help me.....I want to buy Desire from handtec company...but my father says it maybe a fraud or something. So I want to ask.....what proof we will have of purchase after we pay them through credit card....how many days will it take to ship??.......Is the product brand new??......and 1 more thing...Can someone plzzz tell how does it feel to hold Desire in ur hands???..is it uncomfortable??....:(:(:(

Phone feels very comfortable to hold in your hand, the screen size is perfect at 3.7". The bigger ones are a little uncomfortable IMO.

As for the reliability of sites, you usually have to read user experiences to find out. Handtec seems to be pretty reliable, going by what people have said on this thread.

I ordered my device from handtec, and i am pretty pleased by their service, they told me it will be delivered in 5 days, but i got it on the 3rd day. I paid with a credit card. The device was new, sealed pack with complete accessories. I ordered a screen protector and a pouch as well, they are original htc products as well! My advice would be that you order it from handtech as well.
As for the feel of the device, its amazing, i mean before getting it i had gone through reviews and lots of pics, but the device feels totally diffrent, first of all its really slim, 2ndly its comfortable to hold, the rubbery back finish gives it a good grip, and the 3.7" amoled screen is superb, u will know it when u see it in real!

you can call handtec and order from them on the phone also, check their website phone number is there.
relax, seems like you have never bought anything online. when buying from a reputable seller you have nothing to worry about, they will take care of you dont worry.

if your still really worried buy it locally. which country are you in?

Well if i don't get the HTC Desire what are the other good options out there i know that it might be the best but there are close #2s anyway what do you guys suggest??
 
Hi All - just bought my HTC Desire this weekend, and have newly joined the HTC Desire club in UAE. Love this phone - have used the Nokia 9300, Tytn II and HD2 in the past, but none of them compare to this one...

Just wanted to know if there are any Widgets or Apps out there for the Desire/ Android that are specific to the UAE? Maps, places, deals, etc.

Nopes. Nothing specific to the UAE.
But you can use google maps which gives buses between routes and their timings, and people use Layar so you can find information on that.

Thanks for the information. I did have an additional query relating to 3G - I only see the normal network bars on my phone, but not the "3" - does this mean I am not on a correct setting? How do I turn on the 3g/ HSDPA within the Desire? I had a tytn II earlier with winmo6 and it had a separate area to do that.

Depending on whether you're on Etisalat or Du, you'll need to send an SMS to activate 3G on your sim. Call customer care to find out how. It's free to activate and you'll be charged per 100kb or something, and is damn expensive. I once went through 30 Dhs in 30 minutes.

Thats great thanks! Since i was planning to buy one from outside the UAE i wanted to be sure that I can use it to its full potential and not face any network specific issues
