I was talking about Sprint's insurance not Best Buy's. I don't deal with BB. Also, the last I knew, the max deductable through Sprint TEP is $100 not $150. So either I am wrong or BB lied to you. I would go with the latter.

I believe its 150 for sprint and 130 on tmobile. I remember many many years ago the deductible was 25, the 50 , then 80 , then 100, now it's over a hundred.

when i was with tmobile my mytouch got destroyed and my deductible was 120 i was pretty sad because i didnt realize it would be that high. i never did end up getting another one

Well here is my BB replacement experience- had to get mine replaced for the screen separation a few weeks ago. I called the store to verify they had some in new ones in stock and then told them I had a screen separation issue & the actual middle of the screen was not responding to any touch input.

They told me (I was still within 15 days) that hey would need to send it in for repairs and it could take up to 3 weeks. I was very clear I just bought it. I asked them how they could force me to wait, when if it was an issue with a TV or other electronic device within the initial 30 days, it would simply be exchanged...

I ended up going up there and talking with the store manager (who seemed to be the only one capable of understanding my logic) and he got it replaced on the spot.

This is what a prime example of why people have negative experiences. At best buy, in particular, most of the confusion stems from employees not knowing or refusing to acknowledge certain aspects if the plan, especially within the first 30 days. Luckily, you were persistent enough to dig to the bottom and got results. If you had not done so, you would have been among the many who had to send there phones off instead of getting it replaced there in the store. You shouldn't have to go through flaming hoops to get the coverage you pay your hard earned money for every month. But unfortunately that's the way it is in some stores.

the other night i got pulled over and the cop asked me to step out of the car, well i forgot i had the phone sitting on my lap and i stood up. the phone flew hit the ground and slid a little. my heart dropped.

i went to pick it up and the cop yelled DONT MOVE. i guess he thought i was trying to pull a quick one. the cop then picked it up himself and said "nice phone i dropped mine the first day i had it and cracked the screen your lucky"

he gave me the phone and for some reason searched me. in the end i did not get a ticket and my phone only has a little scratch/dent on the side. i also thought it was neat that the cop had the same phone.

cant wait till my case comes in the mail, thats what i get for ordering one for 4 dollars from china

On your edit....you don't walk in and get a new phone with Sprint's insurance. It is handled by a second party called Asurion. They send you a replacement phone, you send the broken one back. Unelss it is lost or stolen, then they just send you a replacement. As opposed to BB, which does not cover loss or theft.

I never had to deal directly with Asurian with prior phones. I had Treos replaced twice, both times at Sprint corporate stores. First time they gave me a refurb. Second time they replaced my non-functioning Treo 700 with a brand new, in box 755.

I had Best Buy insurance a couple of years ago. Most of my phones used to be through them, and also the insurance. However they changed their policy a few years ago, and they continue to keep tightening them up. I guess because so many people were getting over. That 3 week repair crap is BS.

Never had to use Best Buy, but I did use Asurion, which sent me out one crappy refurb that didn't even boot.

I have Sprint now, and since I'm paying $450 for cell phones, I want to be protected in case they're lost not just damaged.

This is a great story. The Evo might have gotten you out of a ticket.

If you raise hell you will most likely get a brand new phone. The problem is there is such short supply! So if the store doesn't have em, your going to most likely go on a waiting list. However, your within your 30 days, so I would imagine you have some different options like cancelling or just saying, I got this insurance to be able to walk out with a new one, not wait 3 weeks for a fix. Right to the Manager I would go! Keep us posted, I'm curious to see how they handle this. There is no way I would go 3 weeks without my phone for a cracked screen. Take it back and give me a new one, its what I'm paying $10 a month for.

It's a well known fact that Sprint's insurance is better than Best Buy's, if you can get over the deductible. Sorry you got burned, but that's how it is.

I never get best buy insurance as I heard horror stories about them. I got insurance from Sprint. Before Evo had iPhone 3GS never dropped it so had no issues. But moral of the story Sprint insurance is cheaper and more reliable plus covers if the device is lost or stolen.

Sprint insurance is NOT cheaper. It is cheaper per month but NOT total. Best Buy is $10/month, $120/year with NO deductible while Sprint's deductible ALONE is $125 plus the $7 or whatever PER MONTH.

What it comes down to is whether you think you'd be more apt to drop the sucker or lose it. I felt much much more likely to drop it than lose it or have it stolen. The phone just does NOT leave my hand or my pocket and I went with the Best Buy insurance.

Plus, with Best Buy you get a repair or a NEW PHONE...no refurb like Sprint.

Sense they have shipped your phone off, you wont receive the same Evo, but it will be a new one. So its not like they are really repairing the screen, but rather just sending you a new phone.

I too am SHOCKED at the treatment and route you were taken through at Best Buy. I dropped my EVO too...naked (the PHONE, NOT me). Glass shattered (though not as bad as in the original posted picture above). I had the phone for about 5 weeks (got it day it came out on 6/4) and do have the Geek Squad Black Tie protection.

Anyway, had a GREAT experience with a couple local Best Buy stores I called to get information on "what exactly to do" with the phone. Took the phone in to the closest store. VARIOUS reps told me that with what happened with my phone, there is ZERO CHANCE I will get a repair and will get a phone back. Was also told that I will NOT be on a waiting list for a phone behind other potential buyers but that whatever repair assessment/new phone send out center has some "priority access" to get me a phone within a reasonable time. The store rep said "about a week" but I too am nervous about how long it might actually take.

It seems that the original poster's phone claim might have been handled in the WRONG fashion and sent to the WRONG facility...??? Because I did not have any of that non-sense when I handed in my phone a day or so ago.

Then again, I hope I didn't speak too soon...we'll see!!

Depends on how you look at it... And the deductible is 100.00. For me Sprint's deductible is worth it simply because of the coverage of Lost, Stolen, or Wet. The only times I have ever used the insurance were because I was robbed and once because my girlfriend at the time decided my phone should go swimming. With Best Buy I would have had to buy a new phone at full cost. So for me that is a pretty big savings. But like I said it depends on how you look at it

They still have to send it off, but you should get a new phone out of it and at least you get a loaner phone to use while you wait.

Ahhh yes..the LOANER PHONE...forgot about that too and another reason I picked the Best Buy insurance!

I prefer Sprint's insurance. Here is why: Last summer I was pushed into the pool. I contacted Sprint that day and explained the situation. They gave me the insurance claim web site to go to , so I did. I went the the website, filled out the form and submitted. The deductable was $100 dollars... charged to my bank card. There was a new (maybe referb) phone overnighted to me for free and on my door step the next day. It included a pre-paid envelope for my old, water damaged phone. Dropped that in the mail box a few days later. It was easy and fast, no questions asked. I could not have been more happy with Sprint's Ins.

EDIT: I like the fact that Sprints INS covers anything and everything for $7.

Why do people shrug off the deductible like it is NOTHING?? It ain't "$7 for anything and everything". It is $7 month **PLUS A NICE SIZE DEDUCTIBLE!!** At one month it is $107 (deductible plus monthly)....at 2 months, $114...and if you're at month 12 it is $184. Might even be MORE with the possibility that the EVO deductible is not $100 but perhaps $125 or $150.

And if you're in month 12 with Best Buy it is $120...vs. the $184 total for Sprint.

It is NICE to have a phone overnighted to you but ALSO nice with Best Buy to (1) have NO deductible; (2) have NO REFURB and (3) have a loaner phone INSTANTLY (which is faster than overnight).

I remember having the Asurion insurance with my P.O.S. Palm Centro and getting a letter telling me that the deductible for THAT was going up to $100. If the CENTRO as a "smartphone" is $100 the EVO has GOTTA be more, no???

You got a bad best buy employee that didn't know what she was doing. Most of the lower employees are like this. My gfs bro-in-law is a mobile manager and admitted that. What you need to do is find out when the manager of the mobile dept is in and go talk to them directly. I had a horrible black tie experience at best buy. 32 days and no phone. Geek squad employees were worthless. When i finally talked to a manager at geek squad he took care of everything. Got store credit for the phone and 2 days later had a new evo on launch day 18mo before I was eligible to upgrade from my palm pre.

Now of course i got the evo but when i went to get it and activate the manager wasn't there and the employees didn't even know he gave out vouchers. That's when the mobile manager stepped in, found it, and took care of everything. At the end of the day i walked out of there with a $35 evo 18 months before my upgrade. Needless to say, after swearing off black tie for good i signed up for it again on the evo.

Not that I know of unless they have changed recently. To my knowledge they do not cover lost or stolen or water damage. And TEP deductible is still 100.00, I called. If I get my phone wet 11 months into my contract it gets replaced for 100.00 and then you add in the money I have already paid and it is 177.00 plus tax. How much does that situation cost you? Best Buy's insurance has it's merit for sure but I am more of a full coverage with deductible kind of guy based on things that have happened to my electronics. I live in New Orleans... Went through Katrina... Things get wet here.

Lost or stolen no. Water yes. Bestbuy wouldnt sell any insurance if they didnt cover water damage.
