Tracking Droid Software and Hardware Problems

As information: I just got back from the VZW store where I was talking with a tech guy telling him of my concerns about the Droid freezing a few times and I didn't want to let my 14 days run out and then have to deal with Motorola on any troubles with the phone. He said that their policy is now they will take the phone back (for an exchange) within 30 days, now that's not to change to a different phone but to exchange for the same model. Also he said that there should be a software update out any day now. So if you are like me and are going to keep the Droid, wait for the software update and then make your decision as to swap it out. I sure wasn't looking forward to setting my phone up again.

i got the 43/09 and sw runs good no freezing yet..
but wat i dose have is that the cam makes noise now
when it focus and i dont get the green corners.
Is this clicking noise normal i had the pro
and ever made noise when i focused

43/09 here and it is running just fine.

I have had 41/09 for a week. It froze on the first day, took it back to the store and was told it was because everything was setting up and syncing. They did a battery pull and I was on my way. No more problems until today when it froze at the end of a phone call and I had to do a battery pull. After reading all the others who have had multiple freezing and reboots, I am hoping that the software update will fix whatever problem I have.

just exchanged a 42/09 for a 43/09 today for aux port crackling. have'nt had a chance to test my aux port in the car or headphones yet.

Two freezes in a week...I'd take it back just in case. Mine did the same thing and I've had no issues with the second one. Everything setting and syncing is not an excuse for your phone not working correctly.

I stopped by the Verizon store, told them about my second freeze up in a week and was told that those that are not experiencing freeze ups are people who have been using smart phones for some time and are doing a battery pull every few days. This does not sound right to me, why should you have to do this? I am also wondering now that since I had not had any problems for a week, it was because I was running Advanced Task Killer, which I uninstalled a couple of days ago.

It looks like the earliest Mfg code is 39/09 so far and the latest is 42/09.

From the responses so far, there seems to be no clear correlation between date code and problems.

Nope, got a 38/09 right here! :D

It might be because I bought it from Costco instead of straight from the Verizon store. Maybe Costco got their order in earlier from Motorola or something. Who knows.

Anyway, I haven't had any problems that I can see so far. The thing works exactly as I expected. Of course, my three previous phones were running Windows Mobile 5/6. ANYTHING looks outstanding to me! ;)

My first Droid was a 39/09 and my new one is a 43/09. The 39/09 slider became extremely loose, so I traded for a new one. No problems with the 43/09. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the color of the Verizon emblem? The emblem on my new phone is a darker shade of grey.

Ok...can someone explain which numbers I'm suppose to be looking at?!! I'm not quite sure what batch I have...:o

That's cause you're looking in the wrong place! ;)

Pop out the battery and look at the bigger of the two stickers. There should be a line that has something in the format of "xx/09". xx might be anything from 38 (earliest I've seen) to around 44.

Thanks shadow!! Finally found the right number... 41/09...LOL:D

With my new 43/09 I hear clicing when i load the camera app. I remember reading this means the hardware is defective, do i need to go exchange to get my third droid :( ?

I heard a clicking noise on my 39/09 and hear it on my 43/09 Droid. It appears to be a mechanical movement in the lens. A few of my coworkers experience the same on their Droids. Sorry, I'm not a camera guy, so I can't give a professional explanation.

I have the exact same problem. It even clicks down a lot. I think I am going to take it in again soon. Took it in today and they told me to keep an eye on it. 39/09

Mine is a 3909 and I am on number 3 mainly losing network connection, no data, not recieving calls or texts, not getting email alerts, the new one seems ok so far. I am really ready for the OTA update dec 11. I hope it fixes all the bugs. I did notice that after I deleted the ATK I started getting email notifications again. Or maybe it was the new phone.

My girlfriend and I both got one on launch date, and her's was one of the ones that had random shutdown issues. We took it back and got a new one and has had no new problems.

I have had only one incident where mine went dark like it was going to sleep, but then it would not come back on. I thought it had shut itself off but I wasn't able to restart it. In trying to restart I accidentally hit the side button and I heard it change the volume, so it seems like it was actually just the screen being off. I eventually just took out the battery and put it back and all was well and the issue hasn't re-occurred.

That being said, I'm keeping a close eye for any other issues over the next few days.

40/09 here, purchased on release from Best Buy, without any problems.

Minor annoyance: The slider doesn't quite make that nice click sound anymore when sliding the screen down to close the keyboard. There's also a little bit of give on the screen when I press around the left side of the touchscreen, getting a bit more noticeable towards the upper left corner.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm fine with software problems, but I'm uber nervous about hardware issues. I figured I'd be fine without the additional warranty/insurance, but now I'm tempted to go back to the store to see if I can pick it up just in case.

*has nightmares about his phone falling apart*

What do you all think?
