i think these apps are released very recently and may take some time to index in those third party sites like AppBrain and Cyrket.
 
Hi all,

I just updated to the european firmware I9000XWJG5.
The phone is so much more responsive nw. Suggest others to do the same.

You do have option to show only phones with contact numbers.

Push email from corporate account works great. The new email notificaiton is heard even before I hear it on my laptop.

The event notification can't be changed using options (unlike new email notification). I often miss it. I have to find some way to change it to the tune I like.

Battery life is just about good. It will last a day with random WiFi activity. If you are continuously using WiFi (for 2-3 hours, actively consuming internet content), you end up charging twice a day. If you just let it use push email (which I do), it will last full day.

GPS doesn't work from within home; even outside it takes at least 15 seconds to get the lock.

There is no app for turn-by-turn voice based control for navigation. Also, I am not too sure how one can use the navigation when signals are not available. I hope to see some apps for this.

Outlook events show up 30 minutes early.

When contact info has more than screenful information (say notes), you end up scrolling down to get the "Call" button. Annoying because you just expect to quickly hit call button for any contact.

Regarding turn by turn nav - Use Sygic with maps from MapMyIndia or use Ndrive.

I am a new entrant in to exciting world of Android/galaxy S. Bought mine yesterday in Bangalore :)

Had couple of queries. Kindly help.

a. I read somewhere that asphalt5 is preloaded in galaxy but i don't see any. Do i need to install?

b. For answering/rejecting, currently i need to swipe the answer/reject button. Is there a way i can do this by just a touch?

Guys m facing a weird problem. Whenever i get a call , my phone ringtone's volume remains very low for 2 seconds, then it becomes louder as normal.
Please tell me if there is any setting to change this. Although its not very critical bug or feature.
 
Three more questions. (sorry if these are noob questions)
1.) If i flash a custom ROM, then will i be able to update my phoen officially (through kies)? i desparately wants to flash custom ROM as my SGS lags many times.
2.) Also hwz the battery life u guys are getting. I am not getting much of it. Although i have closed all the widgets, my display brightness is 20% approx, i have closed GPRS connection, closed wifi, closed Automatic Sync, closed GPS, no internet.(phew)....
Then also battery life i am getting after full charge is around 14-15hrs. Is it normal?
3.) Can we play 1080p videos on SGS? I was able to play successfully 720p movies with no problem. Watching videos is awesome on SGS.

That's by design.. No way to change it yet.

1. I don't know that since there has been no official release via KIES yet.. But of course you will be able to update un-officially.
2. I get 2+ days of battery life on moderate use. What do your battery stats say? (Settings -> about phone -> battery).
3. Yes, SGS can play *some* 1080p files.. But why would you want to do that?
 
does SGS goes to silent mode if you lie the phone facing screen to table surface while somebody is calling you?

Actually my battery stats shows that mostly display uses over 80% of the battery.
I tried playing 1080p (.mkv) movie but it displayed an error that its not a supported format. Just for the record i wanted to know if it can play the full HD. In its manual it says that this phone is certified to play 720p videos.

You can try rockplayer to play other non-supported video formats. Don't know whether it'll play 1080p video.

I tried Rockplayer also but its not able to play 1080p. it lags too much. But its not a very significant thing for me as m happy with 720p :). I dnt have much problem with SGS except a few software bugs.
 
Guys! we all know that SGS has a feature to increase or decrease the brightness of the display by swiping on notification bar itself.
Can anyone tell me how to disable it as i kept accidently increasing it?

Yeah.. may be.. coz 1080p is too much resolution for phones.
 
Hey Fabler! dnt mind buddy bt from where u got Nexus one for urself? did u bought it from abroad or grey market?
I also tried for nexus one few months back bt no luck.

Lucky you! but i am satisfied with my SGS. I like the CPU/GPU combo. I had Legend before ths. So i miss HTC weather clock a lot (Good for show off ;)). I am hoping dev of Laucherpro will come with a good alternative of it. i have bought launcherpro Plus! its dev deserves that.

Yeah.. SGS has awesome hardware. I love it. But the design of SGS is not that great mean it don't catch somebody's eye on first shot. Yeah weather clock is a good widget. Hope that dev of launcher pro comes with a good alternate.

I don't find any good feature than widgets in launcher pro plus. I read on their sites that the guy have work so hard to make some changes so he has to make it paid. But that's good.

Are you from india? BTW hows it feel to use touchwiz after using sense?

Yup m from Bangalore. Seriously i hate touchwiz. it just look too much like iphone. Also HTC sence ui is much more mature and polished then touchwiz. you re right! i am also not a fan of design of SGS (same like china iphone). Bt the hardware compensates for this.

I am from A'bad (gujarat). I've never use touchwiz but yes my roommate has HTC desire and using sense. Sense is award winning UI. It's really great. But I don't know why, I like the stocked UI of android. It's really great. I like it's simplicity.

BTW samsung designs all the phone same way. Get any android phone of samsung, you'll get similar kind of design. They are not extra ordinary designs. Like HTC hero, Incredible, Nexus One, HTC Evo, Droid 1, Droid X. These phones have really great design. You know it's very different to feel nexus one in hand.. It's awesome.
