Quick review:

Purchased about 10 days back in K-Konnect, JM Road, Pune. Price: Rs. 28000 + Rs. 280 for debit card transaction charges. (Some shops in Aundh were quoting as high as Rs. 29500 when I checked.)

I am very much pleased with browsing experience. I like this particular feature where double tapping the text area will re-format the content so that there is no horizontal scroll. This works for any font size you set using multi-touch stretch operation.

I tried out the new opera mini app, it works great.

I was able to sync with Gmail, Outlook. All my contacts could be synced on phone in matter of minutes. It works with my office outlook account also. (From my old phone, I exported contacts into Gmail account and removed duplicates before the sync.) There are issues with not being able to sync group information. Hope froyo fixes that. You do have option to show only phones with contact numbers.

Push email from corporate account works great. The new email notificaiton is heard even before I hear it on my laptop.

The event notification can't be changed using options (unlike new email notification). I often miss it. I have to find some way to change it to the tune I like.

Battery life is just about good. It will last a day with random WiFi activity. If you are continuously using WiFi (for 2-3 hours, actively consuming internet content), you end up charging twice a day. If you just let it use push email (which I do), it will last full day.

GPS doesn't work from within home; even outside it takes at least 15 seconds to get the lock.

There is no app for turn-by-turn voice based control for navigation. Also, I am not too sure how one can use the navigation when signals are not available. I hope to see some apps for this.

Outlook events show up 30 minutes early.

When contact info has more than screenful information (say notes), you end up scrolling down to get the "Call" button. Annoying because you just expect to quickly hit call button for any contact.

Nope.. It's not available in india.. :( I hate everytime when indians are left behind..

That's too bad then. I know it would be difficult to do for Indian roads but Nokia Ovi maps has the same for India. Just one of the things holding me back from buying this phone..

There are other solutions available.. Like Sygic Mobile.. They work with Mapmyindia maps.

Nope.. the problem is not with difficulty. It's with india. Always a new technologies come first to US and UK and then after 2-3 years later comes to india.. Google don't see any market here.

Tell me howmany people in india using navigation?

I saw that. Any reviews of the android app. Can't trust them enough to just pay the money upfront

Mapmyindia and sygic both are same.. sygic is known as mapmyindia in india. BTW it has really a good maps. Even it gives you search facility offline. You can search hotels, fuel pumps etc offline. It's really good. You can go to a mapmyindia store in your city. I found one fortunately in my city.

Not really true :D.. A modded Google Maps with international navigation is already available .

Download : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5MOOJAHM

The good thing is

1. Even work in non rooted devices
2 . could be installed beside original map app
3 . Map tiles caching on SD card

and work perfectly in Bangalore :P

@sureshg,

wow..that's cool.. will try that out.. But how I can make sure that the google map code is not altered to steal some information from my phone?

Brut's google map is widely used across the world by many android users and haven't raised any privacy issue till now... so we should trust it ;). If really have any concern, u can always decompile the apk file (using smali toolset) and check the source code :p
