Hey kalpik,

could u provide some information on how to un-root after rooting the phone?
thanks! :)
You can unroot the phone by flashing back to the stock ROM using odin.. Unfortunately the Indian stock ROM is not available anywhere..

Rooting *WILL NOT* increase speed, and no, you won't loose touchwiz.. It seems you don't understand what rooting means..

ohh yeah.. sorry.. Rooting won't do anything.. Installing custom ROM after rooting will do.. Thanks for light.

Oh..thanks! :)
but i happened to read somewhere that... after rooting if u flash any firmware roms the device will still be rooted.. so this isnt true right?
and is it necessary use of odin or if there is any firmware available on kies will too unroot my phone?

and any chances of indian rom to be available in future??

Thanks again!

Flashing firmware will not root your phone. To root it, you have separate instructions. If you already have a rooted phone, you can unroot it by flashing the same firmware via odin.

All firmware available right now are unofficial firmwares. Well, they DO come from samsung, but they are like Beta firmware. So, you need odin to flash them. Once Samsung decides that a firmware should be official, they will release it via Kies.

I cannot comment on that :)

Thanks a lot kalpik for your great help...
well i am just worried about bricking it... and also not able to make up my mind whether to root and install a custom firmware or just wait for froyo to come which promises speed too...! :)

^^ There is NO WAY you can brick your phone using odin :) Even if you do something wrong, like pull out the data cable in-between the flash, the phone is still recoverable :) IMO that's something really awesome about the GS.. Rest, there *are* risks involved, and I would suggest you don't mess with firmware if you're not comfortable :)

Rooting though, is *very* easy :)

Method for root:

1. Download this file: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
2. Place it on the root of your internal memory card (just put it there, don't extract).
3. Shutdown your phone, then press Vol up + home + power simultaneously. You will boot into the recovery mode, and will be presented with a menu.
4. Use the volume rocker to select "Apply update.zip", and press the home button to start!
5. That's it! The phone will be rooted, and it will reboot! To check if it worked, install better terminal and then type "su" in it.. You should get a popup for allowing root :)

You can contact me on gtalk.. Username is kalpik.

very nice steps ... but will you void your warranty after rooting ?

Well, root is not so apparent, so maybe the samsung guys at the service centers won't be able to make out! :P

good point :) ... few more info from you...

1) from where did you get the update file for root ?
2) what apps will start to work after root ?

on a separate note ... do you experience lag in SGS, I am using ADW Launcher and Launcher pro, and I find ocassionally the phone app stops to respond and I have to reboot by phone ....

hmm good stuff...for the lag thing...is samsung gonna release any firmware update ?

and do you use tapatalk to access this forum from SGS ? I use to use it but now its not connecting to this forum...any exp ?

hope samsung releases firmware update soon for SGS as this is their flagship model,

did you manage to connect your SGS to KIES ? I am having hard tinme connecting to KIES, I can mount the internal and sd card and transfer files, fire adb commands but KIES does not connect...

but I heard if Samsung officially release any firmware, that will need us to connect to Kies and then update the firmware

on the rooting stuff ---- did you first update your firmware then run the update process to root or did this on original firmware ? I have firmware I9000DDJF3, can I run the root process on this firmware ?
