Help 1.13.604 Update adds "Dead Pixels" in Camera?

I checked for updates, and 604 was available. I downloaded it but didn't install yet.

I have no apparent dots at this point. I think I'll wait with that update for now. ;)

Everyone here is crazy except for a few. These are simply digital artifacts caused by lighting conditions. Need to stop reading these threads. The DroidX is hands down the best phone I have ever owned. The amount of whining about superficial BS is really starting to bug me.

Yeah it's a problem on every forum. Honestly if someone didn't point this out, no one would notice. Now everyone is looking for a 'defect'. I know how you feel.

Folks, and this may be a very very hard lesson to learn for some, but NOTHING is perfect. It doesn't mean you have to accept something that's obviously mediocre. But if you have to look hard for it, it's a non-issue. I know guys on the Pre forums that went through 7 phones looking for the perfect one - it never came. You might send your X back and get another with a different 'issue'. Believe me, they give back refurbs usually - yeah someone else's 'issue' now becomes yours.

I had my DroidX Cell Phone since when it was released last week.

The Cell Phone was working very well with no dead pixels on any of the menu screens, none on any of the software applications, and none on the Camera or Camcorder applications.

I had checked for the dead pixels using different colored backgrounds, and using dark screens especially with the Camera and the Camcoder application.

On Tuesday afternoon I downloaded and installed the DroidX 1.13.604 Update.

The DroidX now has some dead pixels in the same location only in the Camera and Camcorder applications, and not in any of the other applications or menu items.

You need to use the Camera and Camcorder applications in very low light and viewing a dark screen and you will definitely see the white colored dead pixels.

If you using the Camera and Camcorder applications and you are looking at an object in a bright light or in an outdoors setting you will probably not notice the white colored dead pixels.

Since the dead pixels only occur in the Camera and Camcorder applications it is probably a software related bug.

Any comments?

Jonathan

I've got it. Definitely a software issue as that wasnt there before the update. Also it only shows when I switch to video and back again, and isnt in the final pic. Really odd.. It's barely even noticable, not like a real dead pixel or messed up sensor, just a little blue hint on it.

and yeah, no picasa syncing still. Motorola and Verizon denied there was as issue, and all around seemed to not even understand what functionality I was talking about. (They kept thinking I was talking about my contact pictures not loading from facebook or something... the lady I talked to was kind of an idiot.. :/ )

Since the update I've got it too and unfortunately it shows up on the final pic/video (verified when viewing on a LCD monitor) .
I called Verizon and let a Tech advisor know who said he'd forward the problem to his manger so hopefully a patch will be released sooner rather then later.....

Any updates to this issue. I have the pixel problem in camera and video mode. And in the final shots. All since the update.

I have it as well... a red one in the middle, and a green one towards the top. Obviously its a software issue... Does anyone know if rooting gets rid of the issue?

When I got my DX, the first thing I did was install the update. Is there a way to unistall it so I can check if the camera/camcorder app had this problem before being updated?

Edit: a hard reset doesnt uninstall the update

Mine was running perfectly but the update has my shutter stuck in the closed position on my camera. I'd rather have pixel problems :(

Hey jbhumph, When I went into Verizon like 3 days before the Droid X came out I asked if they had an X I might could try out, when he handed me the X it also had the stuck shutter on it. That was long before the update came out so I'm willing to bet you just received a defective X, just like they did.

I've also noticed that after taking a picture on the phone and seeing the picture preview pop-up, that it is MUCH blurrier. Almost as if they added a huge amount of sharpness to the preview. The actual pictures look just fine, though. Just thought I should mention..

what you are finding is probably a anomaly called "hot pixels" which begin to glow at higher ISO sensitivity in camera sensors. ISO is basically a light amplification where the sensor is able to receive more light(in dim situations) at the cost of image quality(thus only visible in dark situations, where you probably should get a proper camera anyway). Any digital camera experiences this at some ISO or another. DSLRs are much better at handling this due to their larger sensor size, requiring less light due to the larger pixels on the sensor.

Here is a link to "hot pixels"

Hot Pixels

You can't get rid of it without software like photoshop or something designed to look for hot pixels, and it will always be there on that camera sensor, but it generally isnt a problem unless you are shooting in super dim light.

Same here. All pic and video before .604 had zero dead pixels. All photos and vids after .604 do. I shot a vid of my son right after the update because I read some stuff was smoothed out w/ cam and camcorder app with .604 and I wanted to check out the changes.

You're not alone. Call and report this update bug to tech support. The more calls received, the better.

Rooting does NOT fix this bug.
I rooted, bug still remains. It makes sense, rooting does not alter the camera& camcorder apks.

Does anyone noticed that the dead pixel shows up on the TV as well after the recording?
Confirmed.
My Videos and photos contained zero dead pixels before the .604 update.

Would love to see someone upload the original camera & camcorder apk etc prior to the .604 ones.
I would guinea pig my X to see if replacing the .604 cam/camcorder fixes the pixel bug.

Probably the case....but I used it a lot before the update and it was perfect. Oh well...

WOW funny i just noticed that this morning only have one though i though i had a REAL dead pixel but with a color black screen i have none. I loaded up that camera360 app and its gone no pixel there. Very wiered!

I've noticed the dead pixel issue is not consistant.. sometimes I have one or two, sometimes none, and the issue is never on pictures, but is always on just the preview screen.

I have noticed a lot of picture "fogging" or bloom.. anyone else seeing that as well? I don't think I saw it before the update.

VZW is sending me a replacement. How would I isolate this file? Then I can send it to you.

BTW, Camera 360 didn't get rid of the pixel problem for me. They weren't "dead" pixels, just overactive, I had 2 of them. Also, they would move in the screen in proportion with the zoom.

In order to get neccesary files you would have to root and access the files with root explorer. Then copy them with root explorer and then paste somewhere onto your sd card.
Let me know if you or anyone is willing to do this, I will give more in depth instructions once you receive your new X.
I really don't want to order a replacement.
And if replacing the updated apk etc with the previous fixes the hot pixel bug, then this might bring a quick fix to all whose X suffers from the .604 cam/camcorder bug.

Also ive noticed the dead pixels do not show up in the camera app I downloaded nor are they in the ustream app I downloaded .so I'm sure its just the default camera and video recorder . This should be fixed

Anyone else discover after the .604 update that they have dead or "hot" pixel bug in their camcorder screen as well during video playback??

I've got a couple green pixels. Not sure if they existed before the update or not. The pixels works fine until I cover the camera lens then it suddenly appears.
