Help Internet Browsing Frustratingly Slow, Can Anyone Help?

nickhirst

Newbie
I was so happy when I was able to pull myself away from the iphone and really was hoping for great things with my new hero.
I must say the hero is great! BUT Im tempted everytime I go online with my Hero to either stamp on it or throw it out the window.
I used to surf a lot at home over wifi with my iphone, It was quick always a great connection absolutly no problems.
Now i have no iphone and surf with my Hero, must say the worst and most annoying situation from a surfing point of view.
I have full bars on wifi connection, yet it is sooo slow. But not only slow I also need to refresh the page i want to view at least 3 or 4 times till the network error dissapears and the webpage is shown, same goes when accessing the market app.
Like I said the hero itself is really great, but at the moment for me it is a much more pleasent experience surfing over wifi on the iphone.
I thought I was over the iphone groupie phase but it looks like their going to get me back unless maybe theres someone who knows about this wifi problem.
Im on the newest orange firmware.

Apparently the Dolphin browser is much better, maybe give that a try?

Yes, or steel. I must admit that even with the default browser i've never had any problems like those you mentioned, and I surf using my Hero at home a lot (gf tends to hog the laptop). Its actually very fast for me.

I can only suggest trying another browser, trying another WiFi connection (to make sure its not your wWiFi that is the problem), and trying different websites to see if its common.

Just so you know I have edited the title to be a little more on topic.

Although the browsing can be a little choppy at times, I don't have any problems when I have full signal, and when I am on Wi-Fi it is as quick as my iPod Touch.

This may sound like an obvious question, but is 3G turned on?

I have to say i doubt very much that it's the browser - the standard browser flies along when i'm on wifi.

Sounds more like some kind of configuration issue between your phone/router :(

Same here, on wifi my Hero is as fast as an iPhone (I just tried to load the same site on both).

I also have no probs. As a matter of interest what is the standard browser?

Same here standard browser works very fast for me - I'm using it more often for browsing the net than my pc - even when, like now, I'm in the same room as the pc.

Does the same thing happend on others wifi networks too ? You can try to temporarely disable the security of you wifi to see if it's better

Thank-you for the replys.
Surfing with 3g and hspda is fantastic.
It's just with WiFi it seems to have a mind of its own.
After a number of network errors it then sometimes loads the page.

Sounds like definitely a wifi issue then, nothing to do with the browser itself.

I had issues with my wifi until i limited my router to 802.11b/g - the hero doesnt play nicely with some 802.11N routers. Waiting for a firmware upgrade (either the router or the phone, not sure which) that will fix it.

If that doesnt help there have been quite a few wifi problem threads, have a search and see if there is anything that works for you.

Hi guys!
Think ive cured the problem!
opened up my dlink router and changed B G & N to just B & G now all seems ok!

I have had problems with routers outputting an N signal with no N devices before (my first laptop wouldn't connect when it was turned on!)

Does seem to be a common problem, I'm glad you sorted it out

Cool, glad it works.

i'm still slightly annoyed that i've paid out for a wireless-N router that i'm having to run at G speeds. The fact that youre running a D-Link is also interesting, implies it's the hero at fault & not the router (mine's a Netgear).

How about performance on the move. I reported this regarding my N1 and am interested to hear if anyone is suffering pants performance while out and about?!

It's on Three UK with a manual APN set up, as Three don't support the N1
