FlashLight that uses Camera Flash

That's over-complicated. The best apps are simple and useable. When's the last time you had a flashlight with a brightness slider-

I would've been PO'ed last night checking under my car if i had to fiddle with a brightness slider before looking for damage from Satan's pothole.

talk about having your panties in a bunch...it was only a suggestion...its not even implemented yet...this app. is so new people are just wondering if certain functions and options are possible for later updates...

Looking forward to the widget update! Another app came out that uses the LED flash as well and is a widget. You got some competition.

The reason I suggested the slider is because of the multitude of people that want the light at different brightnesses. Set it once and it will stay there. The 50% brightness is fine for me, I don't need it brighter, but some do, so a simple slider is a good idea to make it adjustable without having to go to a menu or another screen to set the brightness.

Why do people need more than 2 brightness settings? Since when would you need 3 or more levels?

Well, considering every high quality flash light has at least 3 levels, some even more, I'd have to answer your question with: Long enough for it to have been implemented in its own industry. With that said, why are you so violently against it? If you don't want to use the extra options, then don't. But let the people who do, do as they wish.

For some things, simpl eis easiest. If I need a light, often I am in the dark. It is bad enough to have to power up, swipe unlock, find the icon/wdiget, and hit it. If I then discovered I had left it in dim mode would be yet another thing to fool with. To my opinion FWIW, on-off, with an option for short 100% bright mode is just right. If there are other adjustments, at least hide them behind a menu.

If you're still in need of beta testers heres my email tghockey07 @ gmail . com. I would just buy the app, but i dont have a credit card therefore i can't purchase anything. :(
You own a smart phone but claim you don't have a credit or debit card? Riiiiight... gtfo

Anyone still asking for the beta or offering to "test" can go be a scumbag mooch somewhere else.

Or you could make sure you leave your light off the way you want to use it, and so can I and therefore our interests won't conflict. You are asking to make things more complicated for everyone else because you don't want to pay attention to what you are doing.

Thanks Chet! I purchased this for 3 reasons:

  1. Cheap
  2. Support for a Droid developer
  3. So I can show my co-worker what my Droid can do that his iPhone cannot

Keep up the good work!

Now if we can just get someone to formulate a working divx player...

So what are you gonna spend your thousand dollars on that you make from this simple app?

Perhaps additional schooling. Chet wasn't born knowing whatever language necessary to code Apps for Android, nor how to understand the underpinnings of the OS to know how to make code do what WE Wanted (a working flashlight). Hell I wish I knew how to code... (apps) but I don't, so I paid the ONE DOLLAR for his time & effort. Money well spent.

It is really funny to me that I had actual need for this app every day so far since I installed it. Not playing with it, real usage !! I use the flashlight more than I use my phone.

Even more funny:

1. This application has had no updates at all since it came out.
2. MotoTorch is now FREE and just came out with an application interface and other features like strobe and morse code.

It will be free forever, not for just 3 days.

Apps --> Tools --> Just In.

1. Uses both a widget and a normal application to turn on the LEDs as a flashlight.
2. The widget icon will change depending on whether the LEDs are on or not.
3. The application will allow you to configure whether you want the screen to dim or not.
4. The application will allow you to use the LEDs as a strobe light.
5. The application will allow you to use the LEDs as a MORSE CODE sender, implementing the international Morse protocol.

To install the widget, Long Press on an open space on a HOME screen, choose "Widgets", then choose "MotoTorch LED".

Scan the barcode below with Barcode Scanner to be taken directly to the Market.

Neither of these apps use the full brightness of the LEDs. Check out the brightness when the LEDs come on for the camera, about twice as bright.

Hoping to see one tap into the setttings and use them at full brightness. Probably needs some potential damage disclaimer, but very useful.

I am loathe to pay for an app without having the chance to actually use it and get a feel for it - in that respect, it would be nice if there was a time limited / feature limited version of Chet's that I could play with.

Nevertheless, e4u2 has now made his app free forever. This gives me a good app to play with, and if the development of this continues along the same path as it has been, I know I'll be donating to e4u2's fund to keep the app going.

[aside] sorry for being away for so long - I hurt my back really badly last Wednesday, and only now am I able to sit in a chair long enough to actually post something.[/aside]

Chet, competition is nice - but as I said before, I am not paying for an app without at least using it for a while - never have, never will. Same with clothes, cars, audio equipment, a tennis racket, etc. Now, since I know next to nothing about the Android Market place, I'd like to ask - is there a way to offer a time-limited (and possibly feature limited, in cases you don't want folks uninstalling and reinstalling to bypass the restrictions) demo of your app, and if so, would you be willing to put it on the market as well?

I am not going to lie - I already have the latest one from e4u2 installed, but, as I said, competition is nice - having the best possible app is the most important thing for me, and with the both of you developing similar apps, it would be nice to compare them side by side....

You're correct - I just tested it myself - even in strobe mode, the lights are not flashing at full intensity.

You get refunds if you uninstall a app within 24 hours
