HTC says you should bump charge

so how long should it take for the light to go green after you charge it turned off? i charged it to "100%" with it on, then turned the phone off and plugged it in, and its probably been 40-45 minutes now and its still orange. does this seem normal?

yep, I can charge mine all night with it on, in the morning I unplug it and turn it off, plug it back in and it will charge another hour before turning green. That should tell you how undercharged it really is.

This morning I tried something different. Turned off without unplugging. Was orange for only about 15 minutes. Then unplugged it and plugged back in. Orange for another 30, finally had to leave house. Guess it's still not fully charged after messing with it way more than should be required!
 
I have no issue with my dinc using battery after charing to 100%. what actually happens is it shows 100%, but upon disconnect it quickly scurries down to 90. if you bump charge, you get a TRUE 100%, if you know what I mean.

Just because the GUI takes time to adjust back downt to the real battery life doesn't mean that isn't what's happening. The phone is using its battery while still plugged in (after reaching 100%) and the GUI takes time to adjust itself after you unplug.
 
the only reason i disagree is because it does this whether i remove it as soon as the LED turns green, or if I let it sit there for an extra two hours, and it will only go down to the low 90's. extra charging time seems to have no effect with me, and i let mine charge for 8 hours at night.
 
There is something odd with your phone then. Every Incredible I have messed with (and plenty of people on here) have noted that if you unplug as soon as it goes green you do not get that drop. There is an app in the market now to sound an alarm when the phone is full. People use with great results.
 
It's really no fuss. When I get up, I walk over to my Dinc which has been charging all night (and oh, btw, I have the Seidio extended life battery), unplug it from the charger, turn it off, and plug it back in.

By the time I'm out of the shower the green LED is back on so I can unplug it and turn it on. I get from 7 a.m. to well after midnight of normal use.

For heavier use, I might plug it in while at the office during the day, but it's certainly not essential.

Exactly. Not only that but I use the device tethered extensively and go 12 hours or more only disconnecting to take/make calls. I have started this process when the led indicator was green, so under this reasoning, was no longer taking a charge, and when it was amber.

PLUS, if you repeat these silly bump charging steps a million times you will see that this is not really doing anything... it will always take you that time interval between red light to green light after you power it up and plug it in. Like I have said in another thread, I think this whole bump charge is nothing more than a placebo effect and does nothing. The HTC reply was likely fueled by someone reading about this practice in any of the bazillion forums around the net.

The problem is that they provided a stock battery that is simply too weak. I replaced mine with a slightly better battery (I dont remember how much more charge it has, but it fits with the stock cover even though it is slightly (maybe 1 mm +/-) thicker and now I go at least 24 hours without needing to charge...


I'm sure that I'll get a few, if not a bunch, of "Well MY Dinc DEFINITELY does better when I..." but that is just the nature of the placebo effect. I'm glad there is at least a placebo out there because feeling more confident due to a placebo is still better than feeling bad and I don't want anyone feeling bad.
 
Just get the seidio 3500mAh battery and never worry about battery life again. Seriously I get two heavy use days out of this thing.

One guy on here pulled his phone off charge after leaving it on there all day and the battery was down near 50%. I've always suspected it would cycle in and out of charge if you left it on forever, but have not had the opportunity to test it out.

He must have a bad phone -- I use mine connected to the charger and it's always at 100% when I'm done. Also in the car with using GPS it would be drained fast if it wasn't using the charger.
 
i kind of see where they are going with this...having it stop running once its fully charged is preventing it from overcharging and ruining the battery life...maybe its just me, but i dont see all the fuss about the battery...i havent received mine yet but even if its terrible, i can plug it in at home, plug it in at my office, and plug it in in my car...anytime im not near any of the three should not be long enough to have the entire battery drain, even if im using it quite frequently...obviously if your the type whos job requires u to be out of the office all day, i can see the problem

1.) Unplug phone from charging cable in the morning.
2.) Find a job with a 20-25 minute commute.
3.) Plug in phone to car charger while driving.
4.) Arrive at work just in time to see green light/true 100%.

Works for me anyway. :D
 
This is all crazytalk. you guys know that, right? the phone keeps a full "charge" when plugged in. The battery reports voltage, and the phone picks a high and low voltage to consider a full charge or "low battery" ...

when the phone is DRAWING MORE CURRENT (i.e. when it's ON) then the battery voltage appears to be higher. When the phone is turned off, the battery reports a lower voltage (just the charge voltage, essentially.. not charge + a usage spike)

so when you turn it off.. the voltage is reported as a slightly lower value, and the battery/phone allows you to charge to the green-light voltage.

yes, that does mean you can jam some extra juice in there with it turned off.. but it's not really a glitch or a problem. it's electricity.

Then explain how once the phone hits green the charger is no longer providing current to the phone (as tested with an ammeter)?

At some times the battery is charged. If you record the charge of the phone over a period of time you will see that it accepts a charge once it reaches a level, then stops accepting it once it reaches a limit. Otherwise, if you turn your phone on, plug it in and wait a few days you would come back to a dead battery.

That's what we're talking about. The phone stops charging once it hits green. It's just that the Inc's limit is set a lot lower than other phones (for some reason). I'm not saying the phone will die, it's just that it goes a while off battery before cycling back to charge. This explains the 5-10% drop people see when they first unplug. The GUI is catching up to the battery's true charge.
