With Android on the rise, do you think that Apple's iOS is dying?

Good point. So where can we find a control of some sort? I thought of the apple store, but that would be too biased towards my intended results IMO.

So where do we find that happy medium while providing sustainable proof? Can it be done?

I don't think you could. For example, we would expect to find more kids and teens using ipods because they won't have data plans (can't afford, parents won't let, etc). That could give the false impression that most iphone users are like kids since it shares the same OS and app store.

This attitude I have seen and experienced first hand. I've personally lost count the number of times a random stranger will stumble up to me (if I have to take out my iphone 4 to make a call or something) and they proceed to spew nonsense about their [insert droid phone here] and then parrot the talking points used at a mall verizon booth.

This kind of attitude on the other hand..I have never seen...EVER. And I know a lot of iphone owners. Out of all of my friends, co workers, and family members who own an iphone, absolutely ~none~ of them have that attitude. They see the iphone as just a cellphone and not an extension or symbol of their "sophistication" or anything of the sort. I don't even know where that stereotype comes from, I've seen people complain about that attitude, but I've never seen it firsthand. Ever. Even counting all the times i've been in an Apple store, ATT retail store (that sells Iphones), Bestbuy, or anything of the sort.

But like I mentioned above, I have seen the "I'm a droid owner and therefore I'm a tech God (and I'll never realize how big of an idiot I am)" attitude, many many times.

If you can't see both sides.. your naive or blind, please choose which category you fit into.

It's like the ip4 owners who say they "have no antenna issue". Umm, yes you do. They all do. That's a fact, backed by science, and it can't be disproven no matter what "personal experience" someone can spew.

Which leads me to one of my all time favorite sayings.

"My perception molds my reality"

You only see what you want to see. I see both all the time. iPhone is the phone of choice for the Hollywood celebrity set. There's a reason for that. It wouldn't be so popular if you took the same specs and OS and put it in the body of a Droid.

+ 1 my god I couldn't even begin to count how many iPhone owners have told me their phone was better than mine with 0 provocation. It started way back when I had a pearl, and when I got the storm they came out like gang busters. All before I ever had a Droid in my hand. Honestly I couldn't have cared less if it wasn't for the arrogance. And when they bust out paper toss to show off how great it is, I think they fit the stereotype quite well.
I've only seen the Droid arrogance on forums, not defending, just don't know many personally with one.

I'm willing to wager most of this "droid arrogance" is made in a defensive posture from over time..

or for example they defend the exclusion of Flash because somehow it isn't good enough for them even though it is used on almost every mainstream website out there. I also see this attitude from techies since they think you can design an effective website with just a text editor.

I'm one of those iphone 4 users who have no antenna issue, and seeing as the phone is my property and happens to be in my possession, I'm fairly certain that means I know more than you about what problem it is or isn't having. This isn't a matter of debate or opinion. My Iphone 4 doesn't have any antenna issue and has zero problems. Period.

I can't even begin to fathom the arrogance required for you to sit behind a computer and have the audacity to TELL people who you've never even met that their property that you've never seen IS having X or Y problem.

Wow, just wow.

It's not arrogance, just basic logic
1) All iPhone 4 have an exposed antenna
2) if you touch an exposed antenna, it will be easily shorted
3) Therefore, all iPhone 4's can be easily shorted

Hence there is an antenna issue with every single ip4 in existence, period.

And if anyone else wishes to challenge this, go challenge the guys at MIT who agree with me.

When I touch my antenna at the "bad spot", nothing happens. If I wrap my left hand around the phone, nothing happens (and I'm left handed). If I wrap BOTH hands around the phone, as if trying to smother it, nothing happens. If I place a key, a nickle, a paper clip, or anything else that's metal on the "bad spot", nothing happens. And I've tried to replicate the "antenna issue" as the youtube videos show with the Iphone 4's also owned by my friends and co workers, and the result remains the same--absolutely nothing happens.

Perhaps there are some lemons floating about, who knows. I can only speak for my Iphone 4 and the half a dozen or so owned by my co workers and friends, who also have no antenna issues and no problems.

Now you can say whatever you'd like about the Iphone 4, cite whatever expert opinion (Apple has their own experts who would disagree, and are just as educated/experienced as the naysayers/critics) but the fact remains that no one I know with an Iphone 4 has any problems with it, myself included. Period. :)

denial is not just a river in egypt.

Care to argue about the existence of gravity too?

Or how about V over I*R?

Or is that the only law of science you have an issue with.

Apple's experts have those fancy cell phone chambers, right? Spent $millions on them, right?
Inside Apple's once-secret wireless lab | Phones | Macworld

So how come they were surprised that the iphone bars were being reported incorrectly?

Letter from Apple Regarding iPhone 4
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong.

If Apple can't even tell that their own bars are incorrect with $million cell phone chamber testing, then I'm sorry, Apple's "experts" have no credibility at all.

maybe it is a magical phone that somehow overcomes the laws of physics.

Look, I understand that you may feel threatened by the huge success of the Iphone 4, or perhaps even the overwhelming positive experience that many Iphone 4 owners enjoy. And you will probably resist what I am about to tell you, but the bottom line is that you are simply incapable of knowing the performance of someone's Iphone 4 if you haven't seen that particular device personally. To argue otherwise is either the result of immense arrogance or to pretend that you are gifted with ESP. You should know however that I don't personally believe in ESP, thus I'm not about to argue with you about whether or not you're "gifted enough" to sense or just know the performance of my Iphone 4.

Either way, having an intelligent discussion with someone who implies that they have ESP (or is cartoonishly arrogant) is simply impossible, and I will not take part in a petty game designed to bring the discussion to a level beneath this community. Welcome to my ignore list, and good day sir. :)

Apple dropped the ball in addressing complaints they were receiving from some Iphone 4 owners, absolutely. And that disgusting PR release was downright insulting and disingenuous. We don't know everything that was going on behind the doors though, as Apple keeps these kinds of things locked shut. But I think it's safe to say that a company like Apple is employing engineers who have exceptional academic and professional backgrounds, probably amongst the best in the business. No different than Microsoft, Sony, Motorola, or Apple's critics. That was my point.

I see, so the wideqly accepted, and documented laws of physics don't apply to you or your ip4. Right. And you wonder why ip4 owners have abad name. Do. You really believe the ip4 was made by faries and pixies as well?

Looks like the reality distortion field has struck again!

The iPhone is also the the phone of choice for many tech blogs and business people. Your point is now fail.

I also believe Apple hires the best and brightest. But I'm not questioning their engineering aptitude. I'm questioning their credibility. Because Apple PR speaks for the "experts", not the experts themselves.

Like you said, there are a lot of things Apple keeps behind closed doors. They have, on several occasions, either ignored, or outright denied, legitimate product problems (cracking white macbooks, which they finally owned up). I am not saying they are the only manufacturer to do this, but it throws their "experts" into question when Apple's policy has been to deny, or issue insulting, disingenuous PR as an answer to customer issues.

This whole "omg, teh bars were wrong the whole time, lols" response is totally contradictory to their "see, we spend millions on chambers to test the bars!" That isn't their experts speaking for Apple, that is their PR speaking for Apple. Can't put any credibility in that at all.

Why because you say so? Oh and as of right now, the ideal nusiness person phone is still blackbery, so don't know where you think you were running with that one.

Not to mention apples giving out free "bumpers" and refunds to those that bought them already. When has apple ever given out anything for free?

Furthermore previous iphone models apple said"iphone doesn't need a case blah blah" but now this one which is supposed to be the latest and greatest does? That goes to show apple did know about this problem and they didn't even care to fix it.

And then there's the laws of physics, but I guess Apple products are above laws of science and all that.

Ok....so when there is a security issue with some software, say with OS X, and a patch is sent out....u dont install it cuz is doesnt effect u, or effecting u at that time? Or do u believe the security folks that say u need to patch it?

Like if a virus for Windows is discovered, I might have my PC never connected to the Internet EVER after unboxing it and never plan on connecting it to the Internet. Does it effect me? Personally, no. But it effects Windows regardless.
Like at my job, we have some PC's that are not connected to the Internet, phone lines or office network. They are all stand alone PC's (the PC's have very sensitive info on them). Do they really need to be patched when a new virus is discovered? (the USB slots are disabled too)

The iPhone 4 antenna issue has been tested by some well respected folks in the tech industry. Consumer Reports even got involved.

Its a design flaw. That means it effects, or potentionally effects every iPhone 4.

If u are in an area with marginal, bad reception it will be noticed more. Just get a decibel reading app for the iPhone 4 to see if it really is effecting u. Or try the bridging in a place with bad AT&T reception. I'm lucky cuz my job has some bad reception in the building. I have an instant testing area.

Everyone doesnt live or work in a good AT&T reception area. U say it isnt effecting u or ppl u know, fine. Thats great. But there are some ppl it is effecting.

I bet half my paycheck the next iPhone will have a different antenna design or phone design involving the antenna.

The bumpers could have been a coup for Steve Jobs/Apple PR, but once again, they contradicted themselves. If they had just said, "we understand some of you reported antenna problems, we can look into it, but since we love our customers, free bumpers for everyone!" That would have been that. They didn't admit any problem. They reaffirm their customer's loyalty. And customers get a band-aid for the flawed antenna. Win win. It's like when a customer complains in a restaurant. The customer could be full of it, they could be telling the truth, but the smart restaurant tells the customer the bill is on us - "free bumper".

BUT Apple had to point the finger at the competition. "Hey, their antenna is teh sucks, too!" Well, gee, Apple, you just admitted that this IS an antenna problem. Then why the free bumper? If all phones have this issue, and the competition doesn't have to give out free bumpers, why does Apple have to give out bumpers? Restaurants dont' say, "hey, our food tastes just like their food, why all the hate? Oh, here's a bumper." So now they admit there's an antenna problem, but blame it on all phones, not just theirs, but give out a bumper anyway.

And this is after Jobs touted this antenna as "amazing engineering" that still has the same issue as every other phone? Again, it's Apple PR, contradicting itself.
