I don't think so. But FRG22 is still unofficial so you might want to hold off on getting that for now.
SPRecovery and ClockWork Mod are recoveries not ROM Managers. More specifically, they are alternate recoveries, as in alternate to the one that comes with stock ROMs. The one with the Stock ROM (FRG01B) should work to flash the FRG22 released files, but if they are not doing it, I would not worry about it - I (and other users) was pushed the 'full update' that works regardless of which pre-2.2 OS is on your phone to upgrade you to FRG01B.
At this point since they made that push to users, I would stick to FRG01B for now and see what happens in the next few days.
You might be onto something there - that would certainly explain why I got the full FRG01B update last night that is not a patch, but a full replacement 2.2 for all DROID users....
By the way, are you part of a test group for Verizon or Motorola? I just have to ask because you have gotten both of these updates pushed to you early (or at least earlier than me
). If you are, how did you join? I wouldn't mind being a test dummy for early releases of Android updates. Then again, I might mind it if Verizon and Motorola keep fudging up these updates....

) My update notification for 2.1 came about six days after the first reported notification that ultimately led to the zip that was used to force it. And that was the second go around for that update too.Kratos

Actually, yeah, I am a part of a private VCQ test group at the Motorola forums.
However, the times that I have gotten both updates correspond to the same time as others have gotten them as well, so I don't think it has to do with that.
As for how I got involved - I was invited to join the group (probably as a control, as my VCQ has been perfectly fine) by one of the Motorola guys.
I followed and completed these steps. There is now a ninja icon named superuser permission in app screen that does nothing. Also it says my Build Number is FRG22 by Pete.
Am I now rooted? I do not want to be...

mine is a week old totally stock droid.....
tried just about all of the dl sites and over the air.....
still says install aborted....
no such file exists.......
just tried the smoked glass deal that was like over 100mb .....same deal.....no such zip file exists....
do i need to format my sd card and wipe it clean or what???
what should be showing in my sd card file???
says lost dir???
should i try and install the file into that dir??
i cant drag my zip file directly into my phone sd card so i have to highlight all of the contents and drag them in there???
says the update is 58meg???

3. Move the update.zip file to the root of your SD card:
To move the update.zip to the root of your SD card, do the following:
- Open Astro File Manager
- Enter the Downloads folder
- Press and hold on the update.zip file
- Select "Edit" and then "Copy"
- Now press the "Astro Up" button once which will take the root directory
- Press the "Astro Edit" button followed by "Paste"
The update.zip file should now be in the root directory.

No you don't have to partition your SD card anymore. Look, after you press copy, look upstairs the top of astro and press the home button. That is the *root* of your SD card. It's where all your main files are stored, music, pictures, downloads folders etc.. now copy it there and proceed.

Last Monday or Tuesday I updated my Droid following the simple instructions at the start of this thread....Thank you Trident.
All things went as posted.....saw all the indications as the posted screenshots....including the slow bootup of the phone and the initial slowness of the home screens coming online for the first time.
I was a little disappointed that flash was not readily available, but I followed another guide on here and voila...flash on my phone. A little slow and choppy here and there, but other than that without a hitch.
My Wifi works swimmingly along with all of the other apps and programs.
I just wanted to wait a little bit and not jinx myself to say thank you and I guess my phone is in one of those small percentiles that this update actually worked for. I wonder if there is a way (an app or something) that we can install and get the particulars of the phones and see if there is a trend on all of the problems that are reported, build a database of sorts and pass that on to Motorola and help them with their coding, Just a thought.
I am a little hesitant on updating my wifes phone since she is not as technically savvy with her phone as I am. Maybe I will take the plunge, we shall see.

Not FRG22. I am wondering if a lot of the issues people are having with FRG01B comes from having a ton of applications installed when updating. I probably only had 6 of the most popular apps installed (and received updates that made them a little screwy with 2.1 prior to upgrading) and have no problems since.

That's totally up to you.. But to all the new rooters in here, I strongly suggest you do some reading in all the guides. I don't mean to sound rude when I say this but don't be afraid to use the search button because if you run into a problem, chances are that someone else has to. Some people here have been root and flashing roms for a long time and we have all ran into problems and have posted em up. But, also, if it's something that you can't find or if you need immediate help, post your problem. We're here to help.

Just want to say "Thank you" for the info on updating to 2.2. I updated my Droid to FRG01B on Wednesday and I have had no problems since completing the update. IMO, my Droid runs better than 2.1. That said, I consider myself lucky it is working after following this thread for several days now and hearing all the problems people are having. I just wanted to add a post about a positive outcome.
One difference I have seen between my install and a lot of other installs here is that in addition to having a completely stock Droid, I by chance did a Factory Reset immediately before installing FRG01B. Before the factory reset, I backup my SD card to my PC, made sure my contacts were sync'd with my Gmail account, checked the 'Back up my data' under settings/privacy, wrote down my e-mail settings, and made a list of my downloaded apps. The Factory Reset and upgrade to FRG01B went smoothly. Once both were done, I did have to setup my e-mail, ringtones, and homescreens again. I also lost all my apps and had to reinstall them, but I did not have to pay again for any apps I had already purchased. Once I did all that, it has been smooth without any issues. I also installed the beta 3 of Flash. It works, but IMO Adobe still has work to do on that one.

Hay do we have a file for FRG22 yet? I've been away for a bit and haven't been able to keep up with this post. Heck I think last time I looked it was at 4 pages!! I'm likeing my FRF01b but I have noticed some small issues with the java (I know I know it's still in beta) and I am now noticing that when streaming it is draining my battery even when I'm in my dock. I guess that I just got a really good phone, I haven't had most of the problems others are having.

Verizon tech support listed current version as FRG01B-C Sounds like the FRG22 is an internal build not intended for the patch. I was away this weekend but my fiance's phones needs the update yet if i cannot get my sister to let me know what hers all is i will have to wait for my fiance's to get the upgrade.
Last night i installed the new FRG01B from johnlgalts last thread. Had 2.1 stock. Works fine so far. The screen was a little unresponsive at first but after a second reboot, no problems. Left home with battery at 100 %(5:30 am), now at 60 % after showing off my froyo to a few co-workers. Thanks to all!
