My Replacement Evo is a Refurb....

Does it really matter? They re-used my SD card & battery, & it does look new,

but I'm not really a fan of anything "refurbished"....

Personally, I wouldn't care. It used to bother me, but I also found out that sometimes, refurb units work better than new-run devices. The refurbs are tested and such, and wrinkles are removed -- at least in theory.

I say it doesn't matter if it works right. :)

Hard to tell at this point. Sometimes refurbs can be better/as good as a new device...
And sometimes they can be headaches.

I had many issues with refurb'd Palm Pre's but I have not experienced anything like that with other refurbished phoones.

What hardware version did you get as a referb? I wouldn't care about getting a referb unless it was an older hardware version then the one replaced.

You can check by going to Settings, About Phone, Hardware Version.

My hardware version is 003. It says reconditioned on 7/27/10. Not a big deal I guess, as long as it works..... My speakerphone was bad on my original, that's why they got me this one.

thanks guys, i just got my repalcement phone today... i figured it was a re-furb, but it is not. not that it really makes a difference. i just hope it works well, without screen separation and a quirky speakerphone.

Thank you. I too have speaker issues and wondered if Sprint could fix or I would need a replacement.

And as for me, have never cared if phone is a refurbished.

Ive been buying refurb stuff online for 10 years or more now, I "personally" have never had a problem with anything refurbished. Granted Ive been buying from most the same companies and pay attention to some places that have "refurb grades" for quality.

Did you get it replaced with the Sprint or Best Buy insurance? I ask because I had heard Best Buy's black tie insurance would replace the phone with a new one (not refurbed) if they can't fix it.

##786# scroll down to reconditioned status If it says <not available> its new and not a refurb. By law if its a refurb it must be branded as one along with the date the refurb took place.

Thanks for the info didn't know we can check for refurb status.

I didn't have any insurance. They replaced under factory warranty.

I'm still waiting for my replacement. Ausrion said that it would take 7-10 days to receive my replacement because of high demand. I wonder if it will be a refurb or new.

I went through 4 refurb Palm Pre's until they just switched me to an HTC Hero.

I am very skeptical about refurb phones, but it may vary by the model.

Interesting information, wonder what the reset password is.

There is a difference between buying refurb at refurb pricing and paying full price for refurb items. There is very little risk in buying "factory refurb" but I wouldn't buy 3rd party refurb. There is a lot of reasons why an item can be named refurbed and some of them are pure win. However one should never have to pay full price for them.

My own opinion on a refurbished phone is pretty simple. I had numerous issues with my BB Tour when I bought it. I was not eligible for any upgrade so I paid full price, two and a half months later the phone died. I had insurance and Sprint was willing to replace it with a refurb, I called numerous times because I didn't want a refurb and my argument to Sprint was less than three months ago I wasn't offered the refurbished price, I had to pay full price for a NEW phone. The phone died because of a technical issue, no fault of my own. After three calls, Sprint relented and sent me a brand new phone, and reset my upgrade so I was eligible for an upgrade when the EVO was released.
So...if you don't want a refurb, call and explain your issue. Sprint WILL work with you. :D
