[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Works great. thanks for the detailed instructions. Had a couple issues due to me not reading thoroughly (didn't help being 3am when I upgraded). But worked out in the end.

A friend of mine recieved the OTA update from Verizon last night and it is still the exact same FRG01B build that I installed on my Droid using this thread. So, no changes and no FRG22 from Verizon yet.

Is anyone else having issues with their phone after installing the Location 1 version of Froyo from above? I really hope its the download and not the new os. I have had nothing but freezing issues, and web is really slow. Youtube widget doesn't connect, and Gtalk has been freezing too. Anyone else having these issues? Is there a way to install one of the other ones to see if it is just that download? I hope its just mine because I love the droid. I have the motorola one. I have done several battery pulls. Any help would be great. Thanks

This thread has multiple lists of issues relating to FRG01b, as does this one: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/140948-android-2-2-froyo-bugs-questions-post-em-here.html .

This build is very buggy and there is rumor that a second update will be pushed at some point in time to try to correct the issues present with this build (see the very first post in this thread).

I installed last night and It works great but can't access adobe flash from the market
Seems like the market isn't recognizing that froyo is installed
Any suggestions?

It's because it isn't available in the market for the Droid yet. It's still in beta. Adobe will probably release it at their event on the 18th and it will be available for all.

Is it just me or is there confusion as to what this last OTA is. Over at droid forums some are referrring to this as the Full update and the manual as a patch. I know the version numbers r the same but what's going on. I may revert back to 2.1 if the manual OTA wasn't complete.

There are 2 OTA Updates being pushed out to users.

Those that have ESE81 (aka 2.1 or 2.1 update 1) are being pushed out a smaller PTA update that patches your system to FRG01B.

Those that are not on ESE81 are being pushed out a lerger update that simply erases your \System diretory and puts the entire FroYo 2.2 OS on your phone - also FRG01B.

The end result is that regardless of which one you get, you end up with FRG01B.

Everyone who gets this: I highly recommend that after upgrading you perform a factory reset and then activate and log in and re-set up your apps.

If you do not perform a factory reset and set up all your apps again, then there are way too many variables that exist in terms of what could be causing problems, and it becomes extremely difficult to trace down.

Besides, telling people to do the factory reset is what everyone is suggesting anyway, so since this update (these updates I should say) are not being pushed out everywhere, update, then factory reset - in that order.

That's what I did and it works awesome now, everyone complaining about bugs give it a shot.

I think it's about time to make a new thread, use this as the first post, lock it, make it sticky, and direct everyone who's having issues with their copy of FRG01B to it.

I did a factory reset after having a ton of frustrating lag issues (I posted about it somewhere) and I'm thoroughly enjoying 2.2 now. As far as I can tell, everyone else who's posted that they've done the same has had similar results.

I am trying to downgrade from this update and go back to 2.1 I get the following error, I tried using RSD lite but application doesnt work right on my computer..please help me figure this out:

Nprill, I installed 2.2, via Trident's option 2 and I've been experiencing some bugs. I wish downgrade back to 2.1. Can you give me the instructions on how you did it? Thank you kindly.

I used the 1st location 2 days ago and had no problems at all.
I followed the instructions as listed, the upgrade went perfectly, I did a factory reset and I couldn't be more happy with the result.
I have had no issues so far and my moto-droid is working fine.

Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset

It wipes all your data from your internal storage and sets everything (except you SD card) back to factory settings.

And is a HUGE pita. If you're just updating (OTA or Forced) I would recommend giving the phone a couple days to notify you of updates to all your apps before you go through the hassle of a wipe and reload. After I forced FRG01b I had a few quirks in different apps but within 24 hours I had notices for just about every app on the phone. Updated all that I could (I really wish Fancy Widgets was still getting updates) and now the phone is rock solid.

So, has anybody noticed the difference in CPU Speed between the 45.2 MB update and the 76.9 MB update. The "full" update seems to be running at 600 Mhz and I'm fairly certain that the first FRG01B 45.2 MB update was running at 800 Mhz.

Can anybody confirm the CPU speed of the first update?
