Official 2.2 Froyo OTA thread

The harm is that it fills the page with useless, spammy, usually-ending-in-flames threads, and I would rather them not be there. I don't look in these threads to give my opinions or comments on the actual subject anymore. I only read these to see if there's something else within them that I decide I want to make a comment on.

The Droid 2 shares hardly anything with the Droid except for the slide out keyboard design.It uses the same processor,memory and Moto Blur skin as the Droid X.

Your opinion is noted, but not shared.

Yes, I really believe there are significant differences. I see it at my work (our devices are not nearly as complex as these phones), in the firmware and software development I do. Again, firmware is not a trivial matter. If you know anything about the subject you would not be rushing them, instead you would be singing the tune, "take your time, get it right, did you do regression tests, did we miss anything, etc."

This was the first time I posted in these stupid 2.2 threads as I usually try to stay clear of them, but that one post got under my skin.

Droid X does NOT equal a Droid 2...they are entirley different phones. Please stop trying to say that they are the same thing and therefore should be the same.

They are different.....just like two completely different computers can have the same CPU and the same RAM sticks and the same Windows operating systems...there are a whole slew of other items that make them different.

Like motherboard.
Like GPU.
Like the screen.
Like the northbridge and southbridge.
 
how many D2s are they going to sell if they release froyo for the X? Bigger screen, hdmi out, higher MP camera, etc... Business 101 my friend. Give the D2 its lime light for a couple of weeks, and then you'll get your update like a good little boy. As for the original droid getting it first. Until its hardware limits limits it from getting future updates, the Droid will always get updates first because it has stock android. The reason that makes a difference is because the android updates come from Google. Not from motorola, or HTC, or samsung. So google develops the OS as stock. not with sense or blur or touchwiz. So once the OS is complete it is released to the phones that run it stock and to the developers at HTC, MOTO, and Samsung so they can put there touches on it. Not to mention carrier limitations and requests. The OP clearly has no regard for this process. He wants it right NOW!

All the more reason that its a joke for For Droid x not to have Froyo by now.The Droid X was developed over just as long of period.Every other companies flagship product is released with the latest and greatest features and specs, be it tv's,Blu ray players and Cameras.Don't market a product as your flagship model if it not the most up to date product in your line up.

The time for the DX in development was for the phone itself. While the developers were making the Droid X and running it with 2.1, while developing 2.2, the Droid crew was just developing 2.2. In other words, a hell of alot more work.

Why does everyone else fail to see what you stated in the first part of your reply.The waiting part does not bother me as much as everyone not seeing as it is.A marketing tactic to let the Droid 2 bask in it's glory to drive release day sales to make headlines on the tech blogs and new sites bragging about the great first day sales numbers.Marketing plays a bigger part in these thing than a lot of people are willing to admit.I am glad that you see it for what it is.
 
i absolutely love my droid x. i will admit im excited to see what froyo can do to this amazing device. i'm sure when froyo comes out on the x they will ensure to fix any bugs the phone has. it hasn't even been a month since it's release and some people are acting like people forgot about the x when i have plenty faith that x owners will be rewarded for their patience (:

Why put your best phone out with 2.1.Why was the Droid 2 not released first instead of Droid X.They have these artificial $199.99 prices and they new no one would pay the same price for a phone with a smaller screen,lower res recording and a smaller camera sensor plus the lack of hdmi which has become a major selling point.Since that won't cut the price that had to give people a reason to pay the same price for a lower spec phone.Froyo Android 2.2 was it.
 
So if you understand this, why make a thread complaining about it? just chillax and stop making a fool of yourself. As good as your intentions may be, you come across as whining and unintelligent. Just accept it for what it is. And if you do wish to voice complaints, don't come on here and get flamed. Voice your concerns with those that can do something about it. Like Motorola.

Haven't you heard there is a new phone in town.Verizon and Motorola have milked the initial release for all of the publicity they could.nows it's time to move on to the next news maker.The people have not forgot about the X Verizon and Motorola seem to have since it is no longer generating headlines.

Oh, who even knew the Droid 2 existed, or came out? They didn't advertise it. All their in store advertising is also for the X.

heh...the Droid X is not for everyone. Not every person wanted a phone this large.....and there are many who want a physical keyboard. Yeah, there will be a lot of people that will purchase the Droid 2 even at the same price as the Droid X.
 
Just got this email from Verizon

I only have a Droid X. I used to have Windows mobile. This is my first Android phone. I own an Ace Hardware store so I can put these phones (2) under my store. Ace also has a deal with Verizon that gives us some discounts.

But it's definately the X
 
At least I assume it was meant for the X since that's all I have. I can't see them sending me the email otherwise. If anyone wants a copy I can forward it to them.
