Several of us have! :)

I'm loving this forum! I couldn't take some of the clueless people from sprintusers.com. Despite the facts people refuse to listen. I told people not to buy cheap car chargers for the EVO. People were like its okay to use a $3 charger on a $500 phone. Until someone's charger almost caught fire in their car. Then someone had the audacity to say to me that the phone wasn't damaged, only the charger.

My Evo has been acting up since I upgraded to the Andriod 2.2. My task killer stopped working so I just now uninstalled it I'm going to see if my battery life last longer.

also has anybody been getting a "Sorry" message saying that the process com.htc.bg has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try again?

Well you're not really going to know if its 2.2 or the task killer thats changing you battery.

and that sorry message usually has something to do with the syncing facebook(or any of your social networks) and your contacts.

The task killer was acting up it was allowing apps that I haven't even open stay open and when I go to hit the kill all it wouldn't. Then I would have to go and manual do the force stop and it would pop right back open. Since I got rid of the task killer my phone has been running smoothly. It wasn't the fact I didn't understand how to use task killer or force stop the apps there was a real problem with the task killer app on my phone.

Thanks for your help on the sync tho.

Just killed a bunch of self loaded "pre-cached" apps. Got back 110M of memory (wtf?). 5 mins later they're back (again...wtf?!)

If you don't want them running then root your phone and load a rom that doesn't have the apps. Otherwise you will spend more battery trying to close apps then if you just leave them alone. They are not hurting anything being there. This is not Windows. I have had my phone since launch and have never once had to "kill" an app. And that includes before I rooted. My wife has never rooted hers and never kills apps and is completely stock and never has an issue with speed or memory.

Why would I uninstall the apps I installed? I use them. just don't want them randomly opening all the time. And rooting isn't an option at the moment.

And it bogs down my phone.

Listen to what people are telling you. Your phone is running like crap because you aren't listening to the advice given. I'm not rooted nor am I running a task killer. I don't have any problems with my phone and neither does the 4 other people working in my office who also have an EVO. It's because I set up the EVOs in my office for everyone. None of the phones are running a task killer. A task killer will harm your phone's battery and functionality. Then when you uninstall the task killer the phone has to correct the problems caused by the task killer. Everyone knows Android fills up its memory with apps it thinks you are going to use. Android will free up memory for the app you actually want to use on its own. And people keep confusing apps versus processes that run on the phone. If you do not know the difference between the two then you shouldn't be running a task killer.

Well I had typed a nice long response but not going to bother. I DON'T use ATK liberally. Ibjt I do still use it. In fact i was testing it out and haven't in about 3 days unless I had to. and I HAD to kill those becausemy memory dropped below 100 and was suffering performance issues. I

If you have apps that like to hold onto memory or drain battery, uninstall the freakin app or apps. None of the stocks apps have this problem. And I already told you Android will fill its memory on what apps it thinks you will use. I swear this information goes in one ear and out the other.

Also, there are people who don't use the back button to exit out of apps. Most people just hit the home button. That doesn't close the app. Do a test on the mail app and set it to manually refresh upon opening. Close out of the app with the back button, then reopen the app. The app will refresh/update automatically. Now hit the home button then open the mail app again. The app won't refresh/update because the app was never closed.

Yeah I use the back button. Mainly after reading tips from those articles posted. So I understand how the back button works.

But don't talk down to me please. I'm noting MY experience. Here's a list of my apps. They are all very common, widely used apps and there aren't really that many Brushrop03's Apps on the phone

I dont have performance issues all the time, but occasionally I do and using a Task Killer HELPS!! I think it's perfect acceptable to use ATK occasionally

Just having them installed will cause issues. Trust me. Also I am not sure you are understanding what he was saying. When memory is full android will clear the oldest idle app in its memory based on a priority. No one is talking down to you. We are just trying to help you understand. Its cool if you want to use a task killer. Its just when you do realize they are not needed we tend to want to help others see the lite too. The only thing I can suggest is, if in a few weeks you start see or noticing other issues pop up. Try uninstalling TK first. It can take that long to see the affects a task killer can cause to the OS. Just friendly advice.

Ugh...typed a reply but then accidentally hit the back button on my phone Orz

I'll just say this...i'll actually uninstall ATK and see how that goes instead of just NOT using it. But my problem was my phone would get bogged down a little bit at times, and killing some apps (i had a few on the ignore list) cleared it up. Although I really used it mainly to switch between apps

Friend bought an Evo last week, Sprint put Advanced Task Killer on it, without him requesting and before he left the store.

Go Figure.

No Taask Killer here, but when I do use one it's Automatic Task Killer or nothing!

waiting on it to come in , im using samsung intercept till then, i turned in iphone cause they dont have unlimited data anymore and had tacked on 4 10 dollar chargeswithin about 3 weeks , thats what i bought a smartphone for was to surf email and watch youtube, the iphone wasnt that impressive to me, had the 4 and turned it in before 30 day trial ran out, im not paying 85 month then 4 or five data charges at 10 dollars each for any phone, id rather have the large screen , live wallpaper, and everything else the evo offers anyway , just didnt know i could get on with sprint, looking forward to evo, and i was surely concerned about battery life, thanks

Decided to trust Androids OS and let it manage itself. Phone completely died in 7 hours(some usage)...usually ill get 15(some usage)...So all my questions I had about Atk is finally put to rest...It should be mandatory!

Uhh... going on 12h18m since unplugged. At 44% and that's with a Cell Standby rating of 74% Time Without Signal (I get crappy reception in my house). Been using the phone pretty moderately too today. Couple short calls. Almost an hour on Facebook/internet browsing. Oh, and downloaded/installed four updates from the market while in the car.

And did I mention that I don't use any kind of task killer? Don't blame the OS, something's wrong with your settings.

Yeah, mine dies in 7 hours too....

... if I'm streaming high quality Last.fm the whole time

I am at 66 percent left at 12h 26m 25s since unplugged. Display Time on 1h 48m 33s. A few calls a bunch of texts gmail and work mail coming in all day. No Task Killer at all

Considering there are tons of people getting decent battery life without ATK (or other task killers) and without rooting, you ought to take a closer look at what's actually causing the drain, rather than blindly killing tasks.

Or you can continue to use ATK. Your phone; your choice. Just don't declare that it be mandatory, because clearly, it isn't.

everyone can run their phone how they want, this is why I say Android>Apple. But you definately do NOT need a task killer to get good battery life on the EVO. I get 14-18 hours a day EASY. Yesterday I made it 24hrs. Im by no means a light user. 3 email accounts set to update hourly, weather updates hourly, Gmail pushed.. about 100 texts a day, light web browsing and a few minutes here and there of Robo Defence. As you can see, Battery is great without tastk killer. :)

lol everyone's definition of light/moderate/heavy usage is different. sorry but most of you who get that kind of battery life with the stock battery are light users. there is a such thing as fact vs fiction.

Fact: if you are a 'heavy' user by the true definition of heavy; which would mean heavy, not what you think is heavy; you would get no where near 14-20 hours, period.

Fact: moderate users would barely make with 12 hours of battery life, if that.

Fact: Light usage would get most of what you guys are claiming from being moderate users.
