Root GAOSP Froyo Nightly Builds

OK, I tried it, I succeeded installing it at the first time, but then the android.process.media started crashing and kept crashing the market. so I tried the process all over again (by the way, should i apply the new nightly, reboot, and then apply the gapps? or should i apply the nightly, and immediately (without restart) apply the gapps?) and every time the phone starts i get lots of force closes. I gave up at my 5th attempt or so:)
returning to 1.6.3.3 (and I can't restore my latest nandroid from some reason! Im starting fresh 1633)

Did anyone else experienced the same problem?

@Alonzzo2 have you tried putting slot1 before your nandroid save on the sd card, that is if you saved before updating to recovery 5.1.1.
With the new recovery you can now choose 4 different nandroid saves (thanks to bukington)

@ryko, thanks, but i did the nandroid backup (on slot 3) from recovery 5.1.1.

its not a big deal for me, its just weird. i guess i could have rename the backup's library and try to restore it using recovery 4.6.4, but i just reinstalled everything.
its weird to see how much snappier the phone is after a fresh start

I agree on that.

By the away you can try manual delete of /DBDATA before installing the new nightly to get rid off the crashes (seemed to work for some people)

I can install the new nightly by using new recovery 6.0, wipe->froyo-> gapps.

Drakaz mentioned that the new recovery deletes the dbdata partition, that's a proof that @Lelouch was right:)

I'll give it a try now, Thanks

EDIT1:
OK, it works! thanks guys.
I have another question - should I enable the JIT in this version? its off by default...

EDIT 2:
OK, I thought i'll update you with a bug I encountered and found a solution : settings werent saved in the market (kept displaying terms of use) and in other apps (general settings, adw...) and the solution is (by velnaykkar):
To fix "Settings not saved" issue on the latest nightly:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /dbdata
chmod 777 shared_prefs
After the above, settings of all apps are getting saved properly.

Just in case anyone else experienced the same problem

hi
i tryed adb remout but since i have installed 2.1/2.2 i cant seem to get adb to recognize my device
worked great with 1.5/1.6 and galaxo.
do i need some new drivers? something that i have forgot?
i used the guide in this forum to get it working before
i just tryed a nandroid backup of galaxo 1.6.3.3 and adb works.....
can anyone help me?
thanks

@Alonzzo2 nice to see you succeeded in installing the new nightly :)

and yes and the solution by velnaykkar works it's magic

EDIT: new nightly out from 15 August (previous one was 14 August), I'm glad that I throw my eyes on drakaz's download list :D

EDIT 2: somehow the new build is faster then the previos one, even without JIT enabled (maybe I'm gonna try with JIT enabled next)

If you want to use adb for the fix with the dbdata directory, you can do it using an app called root explorer, that's how i did it since i couldnt get adb to work.

Did you try it with JIT? did you performed some kind of a benchmark on the device with and without JIT?

EDIT1: i have problem with ringtones..when somebody calls me the phone with the nightly fw,don't repeat the ringtone but it play it only one time!!!why??is this a bug??in 1.5-1.6 i haven't this problem

EDIT2: i think this nightly is faster and more stable than the previous.

Im using the latest nightly (aug 15th) and I don't experience the problem you're describing...
The latest nightly is still a bit laggy but overall its great!

use a longer ringtone :)
i actually couldn't ever notice this issue 'cause my ringtone is always a full mp3 track

are all components supported , like camera n all ??
and how much laggy as compared to 1.6.3 ?
thnx in advance.

Lets say that if 1.6.3 got a score of 10 regarding how much fluent it is, then i would say nightly (aug 15) is around 6-7.
And about the components - flash and camera are off, but camcorder is working (lousy quality, but nothing new - it had a lousy quality in 1.6.3 also)
lock key works if you set it to works in cyanogen settings, and there's nothing more i can think of.
im still using this version though its a bit slow

Looks like they have made some more progress on solving camera problem.

Thanks for the beer
Take picture commited on github http://github.com/nopy/gaosp_hardware_m … cfa35129ee
Only 5MP at the moment, other resolution need software resizing, like the orginal samsung driver do.

TODO :

- Add autofocus
- Add flashlight
- Look if effect can be enabled
- Fix crash at the end of video recording

After a few days with the aug 15th nightly, I think that this release is very good for an alpha version, and it works pretty well, but I think i'll go back to 1.6.3.4 since this version restarts a few times a day and it sucks...
