Root GAOSP Froyo Nightly Builds

i couldnt find it but i recall that drakaz wrote that tether wont work witout some work on the kernel on froyo.
 
Is wipe required even when switching from one nightly build to another? It's annoying to retype APN details, google account, settings, etc each time...
 
applying a zip from sd doesn't (as it isn't "flashing" per se, it's just copying of files). it retains all my settings, apps, sms, whatever. only the files get replaced by the new ones and as long as the new versions are compatible with the stored settings, no wipe is necessary.

it's like udpating an app from the market. the APK file is copied to the system partition and as long as it is backwards compatible with the previous version, all the settings and data is used from the previous.

this symptoms may related to the proximity sensor, whenever I received a call and the proximity sensor actives the off screen event, the phone will be locked after conversation. The only solution I found is to uncheck the proximity in the "setting-> display-> proximity sensor", hope this can help you guys.

i agree that the proximity sensor doesnt work 100% good and the locked screen still happened but les then in beta2. i have it turned off too.
but the answer there was for a newly installed nightly and not after call

on another note - i feel so stupid that i didnt try to update the nightly without a wipe..... every 2 - 3 days to install it all again...... damn!!!!!!!!!!!
 
i am in the galaxhero fw (1.5),can i update from this fw to nightly or the right is to update to 1.6 donat first and then to nightly?

Yes, nandroid back up AFTER you move to recovery 5.1.1.

I have yet to find a way to restore nandroid backups from pre-5.1.1 versions using 5.1.1. The new version has a 'slot' system, which I had asked for haha. Got tripped up by my own request. Oh how embarrassing.

All you have to do is go into the \sdcard\nandroid\mem=109M\ folder and add "SLOT1-", "SLOT2-" etc.. to the beginning of any of the folders inside and you will be able to restore them.
 
How do you pick a slot? I ended up going over my saved Galaxo build :eek: :o However, I did discover that it keeps ALL backups in the Nandroid folder - so I deleted the mistake and I was back :) Everyone probably already knows, but I thought I'd put it out in case anyone else is as numpty as me :o
 
Friends.. help me understand this.. while on other builds.. when am in recovery, I connect the USB cable, and just do adb shell, adb push / pull, adb remount.. etc etc.. but on nightlybuild.. I get this message 'error:device not found'. I tried in recovery, I tried while phone is on with USB debugging enabled.. etc etc.. can someone make me understand how to do adb now? I see a lot of mount mount etc etc but dont understand a bit..
 
its a strange thing. Galaxo feels snappier than the nightly build. However, in linpack I get around 0,5 mflops with galaxo, but around 2,500 Mflops with the nightly build.

if you are using setcpu try to set it to max 710 min 710 and see the results in linpack
youll get 4.9 in nightly and 2.5 in galaxo

as far as i can tell the latest nightly feels abit laggy compare to the previous one

you can try to install rthunder2, a 3D game on both nightly and 1.6.3.3, you can see the difference. For the user interface, scrolling..etc, 1.6.3.3 has better performance, but when you run an app in nightly compare with 1.6.3.3, you can find nightly is more better.

thx , seems like it will take a while for nighty to become 2x faster then eclair , and 4x faster then donut.
 
Tried the latest nightly yday and I must say Im impressed.
Played around for a day and then reverted back to 1.6.3.3

Though was not able to get back to 1.6.3.3 using nandroid backup....had to install 1.6.3.3 manually :|

Gosh it was tough again....The drivers issues made it sure that that I was busy doing it for about 4-5 hours. Had to use 3 different systems to get the work done..

Would now wait for the stable release... :)
