Root Droid-X Clockwork Recovery image. Deodexed Rooted, Froyo'd

*** Warning. this WILL wipe your phone. Make a backup prior to doing this and of course im not responsible, blah blah blah :) ***

Don't be an idiot either, you must be on Froyo 2.2 to restore an image of 2.2. So, to the question (Can I use this to update my 2.1 and have root)... NO.
I've noticed that most people that CAN'T run it (MD5 error) are people that did a factory reset. What i would suggest to anyone else reading this, is if you know you have factory reset on 2.2, this probably will not work (by all means try). BUT if you WANT to run it that bad, do a data wipe, and THEN sbf. Root 2.1, update to 2.2, install koush's bootstrapper and try again. that will probably work.

Thanks to Mike919 we now have a clockwork recovery backup that you can recover to your phone.

What does this give me? well it gives you a way to restore your phone to its default state but it has already been rooted and deodexed.

If you dont know what root or deodexed are then please search around the forums. I'm sorry but i simply dont have the time to answer a thousand questions.

How do i use this?

Well it's very simple.

  1. Unzip the file
  2. On your sdcard make a folder in sdcard\clockworkmod\backup with todays date on it like \sdcard\clockworkmod\backup\2010-08-23.23.30.41
  3. Extract the contents of This File into that folder. There should be 5 files inside when you are done.
  4. Install Koush's Clockwork recovery (if you haven't already)
  5. Boot into Koush's recovery
  6. Choose restore, then navigate to the folder you created earlier
  7. Choose restore. Then follow the instructions on the screen.
When you reboot you will have a totally clean system, with Froyo 2.2, already rooted. and fully deodexed.

PROTIP: use an advanced restore to only restore system. This allows you to preserve your apps and data ;) - Thanks Fabolous

I can this tell you that this does work. I have done it myself. I also know of one other person that has done it with no problems.

Please grab the file while you can, who knows how long this will stay up.

oh, also it has a black bar with transparency. Other versions will follow i'm sure :) you can always replace your framework-res.apk and services.jar if you don't like it.
again search alldroid if you need help with this.

P.S. I think I have one sick looking droid x using this nandroid image and Launcher Pro Plus.

I've been looking around at a good way to go about the 2.2 update and this seems like it is full of win. Might try this tonight, thanks for the info.

This worked great for me.

Here's a SS of the included teenfaces black notification bar:

Will using advanced restore solve the MD5 check errors others are getting (All Droid)?

Is this version more stable than the leak at all? I just want to verify that you can go from 2.1 to 2.2 with this method.

Can I use this if my phone doesn't have root? Or will I have to go through the entire process of rooting, deodexing, and applying froyo on my own before using this?

yeah definetly do advanced restore! that worked really well for me...its simple, but make sure to have the newer version of koush clockwork, people who had problems seemed to be on the older one or had done a wipe after going to 2.2

If I do advanced restore of the deoxidized, I wont lose any data/apps/system settings/etc right?

So you can go from rooted 2.1 to rooted 2.2 using this method?

Edit: I just noticed in the OP that you can not do this.

Was checking alldroid and about 1/20th of people that try this get the MD5 checksum error. Not sure how to fix it besides flashing 2.1 sbf, then root, then update, then this. Use the bootstrap loader though, don't use the factory recovery.

I had returned to my rooted 2.1 setup last night. so now I'm flashing 2.1 again, rooting, updating and then using the bootstrap to install.

Got this installed fine, thanks for the post.

Is there a way to change the color of incoming message text/date text to white or something besides black?

Would someone please post a picture of the notification screen pulled down? I really like the NexTheme with the transparent black background and blue at the bottom of the notification screen. Is this the same look?

@nerdstaz - someone could that knows what they are doing. I just don't know how to theme or I could, maybe this will be a learning lesson.

@sic0048 - Notification screen is very close. Dark transparent, much like NexTheme (which I was running on 2.1 too). Here is a screenshot.
