Captivate on sale for $9.99 - WTF???

I wonder how purchase through Walmart brick store is. They sell it there, and it is the least expensive brick store I've found. INterestingly, BB was 229 near me. I asked a rep "What's with that? I c an get it cheaper at AT&T, let alone looking online'. They said, Oh it comes wiht a $30 store card.

Whoopee.

Anyway, last I checked, Walmart had it for 149, while AT&T was 199, and BB 239.

I've been thinking about using Wirefly. I can get it for 79 right now wiht contract renewal. But, I'm just a bit nervous about purchasing there. given all the various experiences.
 
I got my Captivate for absolutely free from letstalk on launch day (Sunday). My at&t contact was over six months from expiring (at&t website said I was eligible to upgrade). I wouldn't have paid more than 50 bucks for it anyway as I NEVER buy a phone with the hope of selling it later (too risky).

I gotta tell you, the iphone 4 owners I know are PISSED I got such a comparable phone to theirs for free. I console them by saying at least their phone has a cute apple on the back.

"Comparable"? More like "superior". :) I can't tell you how many times iPhone owners have envied what I can do on my phone that they can't.

Things like:

- More than 12 icons per folder (imagine that)
- Wallpapers (including the cool Live Wallpapers)
- The myriad of slick widgets
- The "pinch" view in LauncherPro for changing screens
- NES/SNES emulator
- Swype (and other optional keyboards)
- voicemail transcription (Google Voice)
- Separate master app list and home screens
- Customizable dock
- Better email app (K-9)
- Tons more camera options and control when taking a picture
- Purchase music directly from phone, and download directly to it (Amazon MP3) without having to use a PC
- The power, glory, and awesomeness that is the notification bar
- Removable battery (!!!!!!)
- Memory card slot to expand memory at market prices without having to buy a new phone (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

And the list goes on...

Oh, and the Captivate is $0.01 at Amazon for new customers now...
 
Beware of Wirefly and LetsTalk if you have a family plan and even if you are renewing/extending the main line. I tried to do this earlier this week but in order to get the good pricing I had to "upgrade" my plan FROM a 59.99/900 minute plan TO a 69.99/750 minute plan. So basically they wanted me to pay $120/yr more for less minutes. I hope I didn't hurt the guys feelings by laughing so hard into the phone...........

You can renew but it just brings the discount to a lesser amount. For Wirefly, you have to 'remove' the extra minutes when you renew so it will only show $9.99 for the line (on a secondary line atleast).

My big issue with them is the post 30-day warranty. I have been told by AT&T, Wirefly and Lettalk that the warranty is only covered by AT&T if you purchase from them. Otherwise it's through Samsung. FWIW, some people said that AT&T replaced their phone regardless of where it was bought.
 
While I agree with a lot of your post sremick, there are a few points where I disagree. The iPhone also has nes and snes emulators, also, even though we may have superior camera controls, the pictures taken on the iPhone 4 are higher quality. Also, the iPhone has a customizable dock.
 
One cool thing about the Android is there are so many phones to choose from.

iOS runs only on one phone because Apple won't let phone manufactures use it on their hardware.

Now what I don't understand is why Apple doesn't make different phone styles, say with different screen sizes and with or without physical keyboards, etc. I mean I'm sure there are people who just hate virtual keyboards out there who would be willing to buy an iphone otherwise. There are also people who want compact phones.

If I were Apple, I would have multiple phones:
- iPhone nano
- iPhone X (large screen)
- iPhone keyboard
Etc.

Of course, Android has all that already.

I would think apple wants everything the same , so there wont be any difficuluty or issues with making apps for different hardware

That shouldn't be a problem though when they control all the hardware.

I mean they don't have a single computer for example. They have the iMac, the Macbook, etc, all running the same operating system.
