3UK 2.1 update news

Yeah my issue resolved the same way - sorry I would've said but I ended up in the pub with no internets.

Maps navigation is awesome, especially with the satellite image overlay on the perspective "sat-nav" -style view. My band is playing a couple of minor festivals next week so I'll get to try the directions out. The voice is a very un-sexy female Stephen Hawking though. :(

Another up-side: My Hero is much faster. Very pleased with this update so far.
 
Installing now - very excited.

I never got a notification which I could accept, it just starting downloading. I have an unlimited data plan so downloaded it via mobile internet. For 70MB it was actually very quick.

Got the yellow bar now, installing. Whoop whoop.

Edit - also stuck on yellow bar now.
Edit - has gone to the end now :)
Edit - third time it has restarted now (hangs on Hero screen for a bit, then restarts).
Edit - now got white HTC screen with green "quietly brilliant" and green loading bar at the bottom.
Edit - still got white HTC screen. I had the lock screen for a bit. Now got loading dialogue box.
Edit - now successfully installed 2.1 - I am on the Home screen now.

Downloading over wifi now.


Wow, Painless, quick and all my applications and data are still there.

So is it officially not gonna delete all my stuff? Is there a warning before you install? Will give it a go tonight over WiFi I think...
 
Updated it this morning and it works great. Everything stayed the same apart from my scene which changed back to default.

Been on it ever since I updated! :) Awesomes!
 
My face bokk htc sense is no longer syncing my contsct with there facebook piccies, any ideas, other than that all was ok
 
got 2,1 update made my hero faster but noticed no live wallpapers apart from the one we opened up to plus no friend stream anyone else the same or am i missing something
 
Not sure about the friendsteam widget, but there's no live wallpaper support in the official 2.1 firmware.
 
Ok thanks thought i remembered seeing the nexus one wallpaper with the beam on desire and as we had a sense update to thought maybe on there also .
 
The icons are now pretty and it running a little fasterand probably the best thing is, if a message fails it retries itself... and if it successfull it tells u so. Main screen breaking into 7 on 1 screen if u hit home twce.

I thought there was supposd to be TTS stuff on it like messaging or google maps. I cnt seem to find out how to do any of this.

Are there any other cool features im missin out on?

You have to install voice input support from the market.

When you've got that, hold down the search button, when the mic graphic pops up say "Search" followed by what you want to search for.

"Call... " and "Navigate... " work too.

You should be able to dictate to any text field but it requires the default Android keyboard which has a mic input key, the HTC keyboard doesn't have that feature for some reason (and nor does the Shapewriter keyboard that I use. :()
 
2.1 update has been a breeze - but is anyone else unable to lock the phone using a single press of the power key like we used to do?
 
I've been watching and waiting with this forum and although all you guys seem to be lucky in getting yours, I haven't got mine yet :(
I've got 3G on (I have 1GB internet allowance so it's okay ;)) and I've forwarded the dates to 2011 and to the 30th of this month in 2010 but nothing.. nada.. :(
I've also tried the #*#* thing but as soon as I enter the final * it goes off and doesn't let me ring it :(

You need to be sure you picked up the previous update from the htc website back in January - as I understand it, without that one, the 2.1 update wouldn't install.

So are you saying from an active home screen, you can single press the power key to lock the phone?

I've not found any way of locking the phone manually - it goes into standby as per the settings, and is then locked, but I can't actually lock the phone myself, i have to wait for it to timeout. Is anyone else finding this issue?
