3UK 2.1 update news

The phone works fine out of the box with what ever rom it comes with.
You should have no problem with the GPS on the older roms.
It is very accurate on my Hero on 1.5. Even the compass works once I realised the magnet in my case was interfering with it.

The new roms just let you have new and sometimes faster features on top of what you have already got. I want it for some of the newer apps that require the later roms.

I was trying to use it for the simple navigation but only gps icon on the top comes, it just keeps on blinking. and after some time it says something like could not determine your location.

and about the videos i was watching how to do OTA but there is no option as such to do OTA in my phone. I want to upgrade it to 2.1 any one can please suggest me a simple way or step by step method to do it.

There is no OTA update available for 3 phones yet.

Everybody else has released it, but not 3.

I haven't done it my self, but it seems pretty simple. When it's released your phone will notify you and ask you if you want to install the update. Say yes and let it do it's thing :)
 
I've been reading this threads for months, waiting for it.

and just to say, i have recieved A upgrade, i rushed cuz i was so happy so cannot remember exact version or whatever. Think i remember here someone saying 3 customers dont get a preliminary update like the others did? so i assume this is the full thing. Maybe im imagining things :P

But i accepted it, it downloaded, restarted phone few times, went through yellow loading bar and is now slowly turning on i think.

About time.

are you on three mobile?
 
just thought i'd set my clock forward in the hope that 3 might actually get the update out a day early. Straight away the update to android 2.1 pops up. Currently downloading and hoping it doesn't lock up. Will get back when update has completed. FINALLY, after what seamed like waiting months, Oh wait I have been waiting months. But hopefully it will be worth it.
 
Turn on WIFI before doing this :) After my update notice came, I did cancel to get wifi turned on, then had to reboot to get the notification again!

Edit : installing... oooh!!
 
Okay, so correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they say that the update would come in one part for 3 customers. just gone through the download phone re started then I am asked to carry out a secondary update.

Maybe they meant it will come at the same time, rather than having to wait again for the main one. Just go for it!
 
That makes more sense than having just one update, since everyone else had two.

Oh and everyone else has had a third update, now that I think about it. It had the G Sensor calibration tool in it.

Either way, go for it.
 
Anyone finished downloading the main update yet?? hows it working for you? someone is reporting force closing issues with htc sense! that doesn't sound positive!

I'm currently downloading the big one. Here goes!
 
Told myself I wouldn't be so eager, but I'm currently installing the first update.

(78 megs downloaded impressively quick over 3G btw.)
 
yep i've just downloaded the update. Just waiting for it to install now. stuck on the yellow bar so far. But as you say let it do it's thing.
 
Gt it running on mine, no extra downloads yet, and I put voice search on as well. Only odd thing so far is that when I use voice to call someone the wrong picture comes up!
 
Urgh - it's still doing it's thing, but "htc.sense.bg" just FC'd - not at all promising!

Also, when it comes up with the lock screen it seems to think it's 1980?

Not going to read too much into this until it completes.
 
It works. Perfectly. Early days to say that yet I guess but so far it's seamless. It even remembered my old gmail account and set it up as an alternative to my main one... just playing with all the bits now!
 
Hmm. Mine appears to be stuck on the yellow bar... Oh no it suddenly filled up! Turns out all you have to do is start posting about how broken it is and suddenly it works and makes you look foolish. :)
