Root How do you restore an app with Titanium Backup

I downloaded TB and backed up a few apps I plan to uninstall eventually. Before I did it though, I wanted to make sure I understood how to restore something in case I have problems. So I went to the TB folder on my SDCard and found where the backups were, but they are not saved as .apk files so how do you restore\reinstall them?

I open the TB app and clicked on the backup\restore button, but didn't see anything about restoring. All I see is buttons for backup, freeze and uninstall. Am I missing something obvious?

the option to restore is on the lower left side after you select the app. alsobyou can batch restore by hitting the menu button and selecting batch...it gives you a bunch of options. if you donate then the restore proccess is automated, so well worth the $4 if you swap ROMs a lot.
 
Just a question to the origional poster, did you make a backup and then uninstall the app? I am trying to do that however it will not let me restore the app.
 
I made backups of all of them, but I only uninstalled one app so far. That's when I decided to wait and make sure I could restore them. I think that's why I wasn't seeing the restore button. The one I removed was the one with no restore button. The other apps that I backed up but didn't uninstall still have the restore button.

So now i'm wondering what's the point of backing them up first if after I uninstall an app, I can't restore it. Thankfully the one I did was one of the Amazon ones so I doubt it's very critical to the functioning of the phone.
 
I made the mistake of removing the default messaging app from my phone with Titanium Backup. Now I have to get the files and put them back on my phone. From my understanding, TB just creates a link to the marketplace for the app. So default apps, like amazon and messaging don't have the restore option. Though does backup the settings and other info.

Reviving this thread...

I just did that too, backed up the bloatware (amazon, cityid, blockbuster, etc.) and uninstalled them (did not choose delete). I decided to try restoring one but when I select a program I uninstalled, it doesn't give me an option to. It still lists the bloatware, but there is a line through it and "restore" is no longer an option. Also tried batch restore missing apps, made no difference. I assume if I want to unroot and go back to stock I have to put all the bloatware back, any experts want to chime in with what I would have to do? Don't need to go unroot anytime soon but I would really appreciate a response.

ti backup backs up your settings not the apk file. you uninstalled that crap. flash a new rom or find the apks and install them one by one.
 
oh so reflashing is the only option, was hoping there was a simpler way (like something in titanium backup I was doing wrong or missed). Thanks for the responses.

So... Really? The backup application does not actually backup the application? It would have been nice to know that BEFORE I uninstalled 3G Mobile Hotspot, as I can't get that on the market...

I sure hope this doesn't effect my ability to get OTA updates, but I'm guessing it will.

The question: So, when it says "backup all user apps + system data" it really only means "backup all user data + system data, then put a link to the market app"? Am I missing something? :confused:

I think it's a case of a sloppy description. By "user apps", he actually means "apps installed to /data/app". By "system data" he means "data and settings from apps installed to /system/app."

I posted a warning about this behavior here, but it's long since been buried. I don't know that it's particularly helpful, anyhow, because from his description of the app, you'd never think to worry about this until it's too late.
 
Wow ti is really stupid. I just made the same mistake. I uninstalled swype thinking it made an actual backup. Why ti? Stupid open source

Well may not open source is to blame. But this app has a definite UI problem---the app should it make crystal clear. You shouldn't have to read about it until after the fact.

I hope the dev fixes this problem
 
I know this an old thread but I just ran into this problem.
My problem is thatI backed up the apps that are coming up as missing with the line through them. They are apps that came with the previous version of Cm7.0.0 thab I moved to Cm7.1 rc1 and it wont restore these apps for nothing. There has to be some way to restore them.

Wrong section buddy!!! This is the lg ally all thinngs root. Anyhow, are they system apps backed up with old versions of TiBu? Cuz then its only the data, if not try going into the TiBu settings and seeing if theres something in there that looks like it might be of use, i know there are options relating to "incopmpatible" roms, but i dont think thats it. More info would make it easier to help, also maybe asking in the evo (guessing from you username) section.

Ok thanks I will try there I used a new pro version that I downloaded and used that same one to back them up before swithing roms. Thats what makes no sense.

I just checked it again and pressed the blank spot where the back up button would be and it told.it only has the data and no app but still not understanding how thats possible why it would only back up the data and not the app when it backup all my other ones.

Could it be because they were system apps that came with that rom.

Not my car, i wish haha

Older versions of TiBu dont back up system apps, just their data. And even with recent versions ive had a few apps not back up, not sure why though.
