Froyo's keyboard for the EVO 4G. Loving it.

This is way better than the Sense keyboard! I could never disable the haptic feedback on sense, and it felt very squished. Miss the arrows, but I usually forgot I had them anyways. Thanks.

Double tapping the misspelled word doesn't highlight it for correction? it does on my version.
 
can people who use the froyo keyboard and prefer it over the stock one, explain why specifically? i downloaded it and do like it, but at best, i think it comes up a tad short of the stock keyboard. seems like the buttons are a tad smaller than the stock keyboard, which leads to a few more misspellings on my part. the auto correction seems better on the stock keyboard too. i do like how you can scroll thru the possible words left to right.

so, i was just curious. maybe i'm just not used to it yet. either way, i'd like to hear your guys' thoughts.
 
+1 more for Android keyboard. I just got around to trying this. For some reason, coming from an iphone, I had a hard time getting used to the htc keyboard. I've been making a lot of mistakes. Well they stock froyo one just seems to be easier to type more accurately on.
Also, I really like the swipe up gesture.

Noticed one more thing: if you hold down the delete key it goes into repeat and deletes everything. I don't know if htc one does that but hey, its still cool.
 
I downloaded this a couple hours ago and already feel 100% comfortable on it. I love it! Looks way sexier then the stock too.

Try ShapeWriter. You will have to google it to find a way to get it, but I think it is far superior to Swype. Correcting words is a breeze, too.
 
Can someone make me feel better about this warning before I use this (the android froyo) keyboard I just installed....

I know i should probably trust sources that were referred from here, esp a ref. from a mod...but..these days..

just want to be sure i was supposed to get this message, and that it truly IS OK to use..

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think keyboards collect information so that they can "learn" new words and stuff and get better with autocorrect and suggestions and whatnot.
I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I've been using this froyo keyboard for the last few days, and I love it more each time. It is way better than stock. Some things HTC just shouldn't have messed with.
 
I'm trying the Slide It demo and so far, really like it, with some reservations. What, no smilies? :)

But if I want to add keyboards from the app market, where do they go? If I wanted to revert to my stock EVO one, where is it? When I went to the Settings, it only shows the Slide It. Why not all the ones I might have downloaded?? Surely, you don't have to uninstall them?

Gotta say that this is one sweet keyboard. At first, the lack of cursor buttons was a turn off, but after using it, I simply don't have to go back and correct things as much, and I like that the word suggestion algorithm doesn't try to enter every little thing you type. It just feels so much faster and more intuitive, and I can actually type quickly with two thumbs in portrait mode. It's also much better than stock for one handed typing. But oh yeah, it slows down crazy slow inside the browser. I've had the stock keyboard slow down on occasion, but this is in another league.
 
I now know why I like this keyboard so much. The text prediction is much better, as it includes a lot of tech terms that I use and will scan your contacts for names. It also gives you the option to type what you want without having it go into the prediction library. It annoyed me that the stock keyboard would take a fragment of a word I spelled out to fix something and forced me to put it into the library. The punctuation bar that shows up on the top of the keyboard is really intuitive. I just have to get used to hitting back to minimize the keyboard since the stock one had a dedicated button for that.

I'd like to know the answer to that also. Does installing this keyboard delete the stock keyboard. Or can you selection input with a long touch and select this or the stock keyboard. That would be better.

It isn't in the market because it is hacked from another Android phone. That's the fun thing about Android, it is open (to a degree) and allows you to have more fun.
 
Anyone else been having my issues with this keyboard? As of late, it is bringing up single letters with suggested words. ie. When I type "accidently" it pulls up "a" as a suggested word and freezes the keyboard long enough that I miss "cci". So me typing accidently comes out as adently or something to that extent. It seems to be getting worse to the point that half the words I type on the keyboard are missing letters every single time. It's terrible and I've gone back to stock for now but I had so many saved words in the android keyboard I hate to leave it.

Well what with all the informative answers I got about my concerns and all the problems you're having I'm glad I just left well enough alone and didn't install THE keyboard! :rolleyes:
 
After spending a couple of weeks with this keyboard and digging it, I had a breakthrough yesterday that just blew every keyboard out of the water. Now, forgive me for being slow, but it only just dawned on me how to use the predictive text feature in Android effectively. But now that I know how to use it, I can type three to four times faster than I used to -- with one hand.

The trick is to type a few letters and then tap to select the word you want from the suggested word list (one thing I like about the Android keyboard over Swiftkey is the greater amount of words to choose from -- Swiftkey only gives you three). The keyboard will drop that word into your text and then automatically add a space. If you enter punctuation, it will backspace and stick the punctuation at the end of they last word automatically. This makes typing very quick and very easy and very accurate for me, with little need to go back and correct your typing. The fact that I can do it with one hand is huge, and while I admit that I was never that fast with a hardware keyboard, this soft keyboard is ridiculously fast and accurate in comparison. I doubt I could beat the fastest Swyper head to head, and users familiar with hardware keyboards would probably smoke me, but what I get is a typing experience that has the lowest level of frustration I've ever encountered. And that makes it my number one choice for software keyboard.

Still has a bug in forums where it slows down really badly every now and then, but when I'm writing a long post like this one, I can overlook it.

But it works flawlessly in text and email.

EDIT: I noticed that when I use voice to text to compose messages now, it capitalizes the beginning of sentences, something that doesn't happen with the stock HTC keyboard. I have also noticed that my voice searches in general are more on the mark with the keyboard switch.
