Quietly brilliant? Really?

Does anyone else find it deliciously ironic that when booting the phone, the "quietly brilliant" logo comes up just as the phone is BLARING the start up chime?

I'm glad it's not just me. I'm on O2 and mine's never had a start-up sound... Perhaps there is an advantage to having a branded handset ?

Yeah O2 replaced the Boot screens with their own.

Silent boot fixes everything, but you could root, remount /system and replace android_audio.mp3 with another file of the same name.

I've got an unbranded, unlocked Desire with an O2 sim. I get the startup sound.

I noticed my Telus Desire was somewhat quieter when I updated to generic HTC Froyo. It's now a comfortable volume, not that I restart it much as it's been very stable for well over 100 hours straight.

I wasn't thrilled with the earpiece volume on 2.1, but it was acceptable and similar to my iPhone 3G. But I noticed 2.2 is louder and now I set the volume level at 60 or 80 percent instead of 100 in normal situations. All in all Froyo has been quite an improvement.

The start chime is the 'brilliant' part , after that the phone is 'silent'. Thats more of a Brilliantly Silent slogan .
Anyway , i almost never shut off my phone so it does not bother me.

LMAO...perhaps! I'm happy to report that the in-call volume on my TELUS desire improved dramatically after updating to 2.2. Night and day difference.
