Does anyone else find it deliciously ironic that when booting the phone, the "quietly brilliant" logo comes up just as the phone is BLARING the start up chime?

I'm glad it's not just me. I'm on O2 and mine's never had a start-up sound... Perhaps there is an advantage to having a branded handset ?
how do you turn the chime off ?
cant see it in any menu

Curious - I didn't notice any difference with mine.since 2.2, the startup chime has become much quieter.

I noticed my Telus Desire was somewhat quieter when I updated to generic HTC Froyo. It's now a comfortable volume, not that I restart it much as it's been very stable for well over 100 hours straight.Interesting...just loaded 2.2 today and I don't notice a difference re the startup chime.
I wasn't thrilled with the earpiece volume on 2.1, but it was acceptable and similar to my iPhone 3G. But I noticed 2.2 is louder and now I set the volume level at 60 or 80 percent instead of 100 in normal situations. All in all Froyo has been quite an improvement.Maybe HTC's slogan refers to how quiet the Desire actually is when you want to use it as a phone.
