The little things...(2.2 Update addons/changes)

Got OTA Froyo love. Not rooted. Now every time I plug my phone to my PC to charge; it hijacks my PC web browser and wants me to install the V Cast media manager on my system.

I find that I am not alone.
Thanks to kayst, I offer these words (worked for me, SparksGuy):

Code:
I found this solution on the forums here, but have not tried it because I haven't gotten a popup.
Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password 000000 (that's 6 zeros)
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)

This is working, thanks.

Now when i change wallpapers, it works;)
with 2.1 id have to boot down.

also no more grounding problem.

also love the flashlight and being able to turn on the light while shooting vids indoors;).....

My phone is MUCH faster. It was fast before but now it's insane. I actually had to turn down the home screen scrolling speed in my Launcher Pro app because it was going too fast. My quadrant scores went from 550-600 (with 2.1) to 1200-1400 (with 2.2).
How is your phone so fast? Or is that normal? I usually get around 550 give or take with 2.1 stock with sense. I never get up to 600. Is it because you are running launcher pro?

Another thing is after I installed handscent and set as my default text message app, i still get a double notification from the stock text app. I know there was a way to fix this in 2.1 but haven't found the way to do it here. Anyone know?

You need to go into the phone's default messaging app and unselect the "received notification" option.

Today I noticed that if someone with an upcoming birthday calls you (and if you have their b-day programmed into their contact info, of course! :p) it shows a little reminder in their Caller ID pic. My hubby called and it had this weird little icon (which I later realized was a cupcake w/ a candle, LOL) and said "6 days" and I'm like "6 days? WTH does that mean?!" Then I realized 6 days from today is his b-day. :)

Froyo has been good. What I'm impressed by is I usually had about 6+ apps to update at a single point. I updated them all at the same time and the phone would crawl. I ran about 7 app upgrades yesterday and the phone was working smoothly. It works much better under strain. HTC stock music player is still shit. Music Mod is perfect, works awesome. Keeps that awesome Android stock look to it.

720 vid has been choppy for me too mostly unlike the quick and realistic 480 we had before.

Same here. Maybe my expectations were too high for 720p...

In some cases there is slightly more lag when typing in the browser, but it's unpredictable. Maybe this will improve as I begin rebuilding my user dictionary...

All other aspects are either the same or improved. Good update imo. Those of you who aren't much impressed must not have seen the issues that usually come along with updates from the likes of blackberry, micro$oft, etc. Google is pretty much on the ball with their advancements.

The reality is that these numbers are very dynamic. I always get in the mid-500's as well! But to me the "user experience" far outweighs this. My advice would be not to read too much into them.

My experience thus far has been ok, not a noticeable difference, but I have one of the phones that didn't have any problems previously- thus, I did not do a factory reset, but wondering now if I should because of one thing I have noticed:

My wifi speeds (which should be at "N" speed now, correct?) are actually slower than before. The web pages still load fast, but my speeds are all over the place (19 - 54 mbps) when before it was steady at 54 mbps.

Just as a point of reference, my boss has a Droid 2 and when we're standing right next to the router, he's got 65 mbps and I still might be at 19.

Anyone have any idea if my not doing a factory reset could be affecting my wireless speeds? Any clue where I might find if I even have Wireless N?

thanks

Phone's been sluggish since 2.2 OTA, so, I figured, what the heck, and did the deed.

Going through setup now. Seems snappier. Hope I can remember all the tweaks I did to it...lol

See you in an hour or so,

-kj-

So far, so good, for me...
I haven't had any issues with my phone, or with froyo.
I charge my batt at night when I'm sleeping, then bump it in the morning.
Same as it ever was.
Batt life seems about the same, but I'm only on day 3...

hmmm. I've had 2.2 for over a month and did not notice that at all. Never really noticed that the buttons move. If I took a picture that was sideways I just flipped it before I posted it. Now that I know its there I'll use it more i'm sure but I was not longing for a fix to begin with. Cool added feature though.

I'm confused...I could always take pictures in portrait mode. Are you saying that now the settings/flash/gallery buttons rotate into portrait mode making it easier to take a portrait shot?

Yes. Nothing really ever stopped anyone from taking portrait mode pics, but the buttons do rotate now.

Flash is working but I still have a Flash update in Appbrain (the app) that says there is an update and I can't get rid of it or uninstall to reinstall it again. Just sits there and when an auto update comes for others it tells me that the Flsh one can't be found.

In appbrain, just hit the red "X" next to the flash update thing. Then press skip this update or hide this update. I cant remember exactly what it says as my phone is off and charging.

I've heard a lot of talk around these parts about doing a complete reset when you upgrade to 2.2 if you have problems. That freaks me out, not because I'm afraid of losing pictures, apps or anything, but because I'm afraid of losing Google Voice which uses only a single access number. This way I have had free unlimited outbound calls (without having to make my phone call me with a 3rd party app) by adding that number to my Friends & Family. I'd hate to lose that.

No, it's 2.2. My qudrant scores are consistently above the X, and have been really high since updating with the RUU.

Does anyone know how to turn on the portable wifi hotspot? I got my OTA this morning and try to figure out how to turn the wifi hotspot on.

I like how you can now rotate your phone to either side in the browser, apps, and messaging and it goes into landscape on either side! My one issue is that when streaming videos the video player now sometimes stops and says cannot play video. Any one else have that issue?

someone way back mentioned the flashlight not working. It may seem dumb, but you can press the button in the middle of teh flashlight to change intensity and turn the light off. It wasn't really obvious at first or maybe I was just blinded by the sheer wonder of having the flashlight working, but I somehow hit it, shut the light off, and then couldn't figure out what happened. And no, I am not blonde.

Sorry if this was mentioned, but I noticed the back or home buttons do not get me out of car mode after the upgrade. Now I have to pull down the notifications bar to exit.

Noticed that too. a bit annoying.
