Root Brand New Froyo 2.3.13

Here is the list of apps that I have removed from 2.3.13, there are a few others that I didn't write down but they aren't anything major. Some of these may be from the 928Droid BGX theme also. Every phone is setup differently and some people may need some of these apps but I do not use any of them.

There are a few things that I feel like I should mention: Renaming the 2 bluetooth apks still allows for bluetooth connectivity. The VoiceCommands.apk is the older voice command app with the woman's voice, since there is the new google voice search this isn't needed but when you rename it you will get a force close that will not go away without rebooting the phone. LatinIME and LatinImeTutorial are the stock keyboard, I'm using the htc-IME keyboard so I renamed these also. Prior to 2.3.13 when I would try renaming blurhome.apk the phone would lag a lot and not run properly, it can now be removed without any problems at all.

So, here's the list:

Can I use the nandroid backup file to upgrade from 2.1 or will that cause issues?

Also is there some reason that Rom Manager will not created a backup when I select "Backup Current Rom" ? Isn't that how I should create a backup before I try upgrading? Sorry if my questions are lame, I have not used this before, and I'm not sure I should rely on the Rom Manager to upgrade if it can't create a backup either?

I am not sure, why don't you test it out and see:p
Do you have updated droid x bootstrap?

Currently I have a rooted 2.1 phone. Considering upgrading, but is there a way to do it properly and not have to re-install all my apps?

Or would my best bet be to backup using titanium backup follow the directions in the first post and upgrade, then use abd for root (never done this), then restore with titanium backup?

You can root 2.1 with some free apps. All you'll have to do is hit the button that say root. one is called UniversalAndroot

I downloaded Rom manager but I can't seem to make a rom of my phone with it, it simply restarts my phone..Not sure I would trust this program to load the update.

It doesn't make ROMS it loads them from your SD card and you can TOTALLY trust it. From reading what you just said about ROM manager I'd say you might want to read a little more before trying to update from 2.1 to 2.2.;)

Or maybe I'm better off waiting for a tranquility or flyx release (whatever the difference is between those 2 :P that includes this latest build?) The reason I want the update is for better performance and I'm waiting to junk all the crapware until I update. Should I wait?

You will still need to be at 2.2 rooted and deodexed to load either, tranquility or flyx release, so you might as well wait for the Official Verizon OTA and then root (if you can) or do it now.

You need to have Koushs Droid X bootstrapper and you have to hit the "Bootstrap Recovery" button at least once before using ROM manager. They work hand and hand you need them both. You can just use the Boot strapper but you have to select the option manually. ROM manager just automates what you can do in recovery.

Thanks but I am currently already rooted, using the Universalandroot method (because it was quick and easy). I wanted to create a backup of my phone before changing over to 2.2. I thought I read it was possible to make a nandroid backup with the ROM manager, but I guess I misunderstood that as well. I have already backed up using Titanium backup, just hoping to backup the 2.1 as well but no big deal I guess.

So now back to trying to figure out if I have the bootstrap or not. I'm assuming I need to pay the $2 to get it.

edit: Oops you beat me to the post. Downloading the bootstrap now, I found it here http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/08/droid-x-recovery.html

It will make a backup of your 2.1 but you need to be in 2.1 to recover it.

The problem is you will not be able to use your nandroid backup to go back to 2.1 if you have a problem, as the kernels are different. Once you get to 2.2 you'll need the titanium backup to restore your home screens and apps though so you're ready for that.

Yeah ROM manage just sends commands to the Clockwork recovery which you access but using the bootstrap app. You could do everything ROM manager does manually in clockworks recovery if you like.

Make sure you have the stuff you'll need to go back to 2.1. If you have problems you'll need to be able to flash the sbf file and you'll need several files and apps for that. There is a link on Koush's page to "the gift"or rootzwiki has the "Bomb" and they have everything you should need.

Good luck

If you need help shine a light in the sky that says I need help BOT.:D

Doesn't the build.props just fake it? Does it really revert?
I was just about to post my nandroid save and I was taking screen shots when I noticed it said 2.3.9 I'm like WTF and thought I had spent all that time working on the wrong one. LOL Now I know it was really the 2.3.13. Grrrr

I'm not sure what fixed the Wifi but mine as been on solid, at home where it was the worse, and that alone is is a BIG plus for me.

The Wifi dropping was so bad at times, here at my house, that it was switching between 3g and wifi so often it was like having no connection at all.

I would have to disable wifi when I was home just so I could use the internet on the phone.

Its solid on now and hasn't dropped once since the update.

Piiman. Im confused dude.

Before trying new froyo I had flux. Build props. Nextheme running.

I went to mdw for update. Did it. Lost root. Checked. And it was still the older froyo. Tried to reroot via adb and it wouldn't push to bin. Kept saying too many symbols or something. I thought that the new froyo didn't even install so I flashed sbf.

So are you saying that it was build props that was saying I was still. On old froyo even though I wasn't?? Because I was on pc mode when I tried to reroot.and then I read that it had to push to push su to xbin to reroot. Dang dude. Plus it all installed correctly I still had everything I just lost root.

So this whole time I was actually on the new froyo?? With darkmatters nand will it show up on about phone??

I have FlyX .1 Final
Have some theming.
Can I upgrade to this without losing my setup?
Or do I need to re install all my apps with titanium?
Ill nandroid before to be safe

ok somehow I messed something up and ended up stuck at M sign.
flashed sbf
rooted
koushs recovery
did install instructions on the 2.3.13
it says installing update but does absolutly nothing.

I thought I would be smart and restore an old recovery and it still wont go passed the m.

Dark matters froyo is the easiest option, just restore sysytem
I think you need to install 2.2 leak before 2.3.13. This updates the kernal I believe.

Yes this is what I have seen

I've got a splitting headache after reading all 7 pages of this thread.

I just rooted tonight because I wanted to install this. But, after reading everything here - I am beyond intimidated.

well you might learn a few things

Waiting for someone to confirm this. I guess I'm just lazy or don't want to go through the run around (or stay up till 2 am getting my phone working cause I broke it and waking back up at 6). I'm Rooted, 2.1 backed up with nandroid and TiBackup. Soon as I can get a confirmation on this I'm ready to Froyo.

oh one more question, Rom Manager suggests that I partition the SD card. Is this necessary?

Then don't do it. What's the point?

Just go to the 2.2 earlier leaked version. Much easier than loading what's effectively a full ROM here. I don't think the differences between the 2 leaked 2.2 versions are great enough to just not get to the first version safely and wait for the real release.

I really feel like the 2.3.13 leak is better than the original 2.2 leak.

As my signature indicates, I already have the earlier 2.2 leak.. The point is that apparently since this new leak is an actual OTA version it would put me back on track in that regard, correct?
