Root Rooting the Droid without rsd lite up to and including FRG83D

Hey OMJ is this (The Official One-Click Rooting Solution for Droid Thread!!! :D :D LATEST: V1.0 by RDKamikaze) method recommended? I recenty got my refurb with frg22d and want to root and this seems like a good quick way...there doesnt seem to be another option out there but the one i mentioned and this one you posted

soup or root works the same way as the method in this thread its just a program that does it for you. I helped RDKamikaze getting the first version it working.
 
just rooted my bro with this process. thanks! worked perfect. I tried the other new method, it failed, this worked for us first time. thanks! he is happy.
 
I just went through this process. I finally took the plunge!!!! My heart is racing. I have turned off my phone and am getting ready to turn it back on. Wish me luck. I already verified that I have the super user apk in my app drawer.

Here goes nothing and everything at the same time!

I still have this method printed out, somehow the version 0.6 of the "one click" that ran the commands for you worked on my phone.

Since its all the same steps, I don't think it'll take much to type in the commands next time.

Thanks! Everything went just fine. I am now making a Titanium Backup, then a System Backup, and finally I will be flashing my first kernel and rom. I'm thinking I want to check out Bugless Beast.

wow, this is crazy, I'm proof you shouldn't mess with stuff you don't understand!!
I followed the instructions for restoring factory settings and that didn't work either! grrr
I was at least able to get the phone back up so I could get back to ROM Manager and just used one of there roms so my phone is at least working now.

Is this supposed to make you reactivate your phone every time you change Roms?

Wow, Kratos, I assumed I was way behind you in joining the rooted crowd. I feel all special now.

I rooted 3-4 weeks ago and have been running Bugless Beast 0.4 this whole time. I am highly impressed with its lack of bugginess--true to the name I guess.

And it solved all my Froyo wifi issues (and of course allows me wifi tether which has been surprisingly functional...except no WEP key is working...)

Anyway, I may be little more than a strategically shaved monkey, but I do have a rooted Droid by god!

I've been contemplating this for many months now and finally decided to go for it. The main reason I went for it was because I felt more than very conferable, but I also wanted to OC, install custom themes, and just generally have full control of my purchased phone.

I hope this makes since....so I followed these steps as I have 2.2 FRG22D, super easy by the way, however I ended up doing it a second time to reroot and I keep getting an error on this line
mv /system/recovery-from-boot.p /system/recovery-from-boot.p.disabled

I did not get the error the first time I did this, now I get what that line does! any ideas on what to do now? I've already installed a ROM LFY v1.6. did I need to start over again?

dont worry about it. If you flashed a rom the issue is gone.
 
Hey, I'm a little new, I already had the thing that was on the "ADB" link but I had it before and it isn't up to date, so do I just update everything and I should be good for that part?
 
Thanks I just used this to root my frg22. So I'm ready to start doing some ROMs which I'll read up on but I just have 1 question to make sure I understand. Since I did not backup anything before rooting, a backup that I make now (I'll be sure to make before doing any ROMs) will be a backup of my rooted phone, correct? Doesn't seem to be a big deal, but just want to make sure I understand. Also, if I did ever want to get back to frg22 not rooted, would that be possible?

absolutely....you can either use an sbf file or flashing this http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/verizon_voles/a5e329b00288.signed-voles-ota-50454.zip like you would a rom

there is no way to make a backup of your system before its rooted...
 
I have a quick question. I just rooted my phone (finally and woot, go me!) and i'd like to overclock it. What do i need to do this apart from kernals? I'm still running the stock frg22d update that came ota. Help please!

you need setcpu from the market. The stock kernel can actually be clocked to 800mhz. If you want to go higher than that you will need a custom kernel.

Ah, there we go! Now just because im curious, how would i go about getting a custom kernal on there and would 1 ghz be safe?

1ghz is quite safe and a good place to start.

If you havent already done so you will need a custom recovery to flash a kernel. Download rom manager from the market and it will flash clockwork mod recovery for you.
Make sure you make a backup before you flash your first kernel so you have something to go back to if there is a problem.
