Root Help with Plan of Attack for root to Froyo 2.3.13

I think it's #6, but wait for someone else to verify. I don't remember having to do this step since I downloaded and selected install from within the rom manager. I believe my phone rebooted automatically.
 
I rebooted and it definitely did not install. It told me when pulling up ROM Manager that it did not restart and that "Recovery mode is "broken""
 
Okay,

--Reflashed Bootstrapper to "Bootstrap Recovery"
--Reflashed "Clockwork" at the top of ROM Manager
--Download ROM > Stock Images > 2.2
--Pre-download options selected backup and wipe then clicked Download
--Then clicked install
--Then it rebooted itself into ClockworkMod Recovery and started the Backing up System/Data which took about 3-5 minutes
--Then it went through the installing update process. That took about 5 mins or so.

Tick tock, tick tock. Now I"m just waiting for the install process to finish...

And there we go, now it's rebooting on to the eye.

So, clearly my issue is either that I chose "Reboot recovery" instead of "Backup recovery" or I made the mistake of not flashing either the Bootstrapper or the Clockwork via ROM Manager.

Now on to the Nandroid backup.

Okay. Once it got finished setting up I then re-installed Bootstrapper
--Set it up for "Backup Recovery"
--Re-installed ROM Manager from the Market
--Re-flashed clockworkmod
--Booted into recovery mode (option beneath flash clockwork)
--Backup and Restore > Backup
--Once that was finished: Advanced Restore > restore system
--Found my folder, selected the folder > Select "Yes - I want to restore system only" option
--Waited for the restore to finish
--Rebooted system
--The eye is a-glowing

And, I'm waiting...PRESTO

Finished booting in less than 5 minutes, checked the system and my firmware is now 2.3.13. Boo-yah!

Heh. Me again.

Is the nandroid file already deodexed or do I need to take care of that separately? It looks like it might be, but wanted to check-in (again)
 
Glad to hear you got it working! Can you check if you have duplicate apps? I have several such as 2 email. Since I backed everything up before I upgraded I can tell which ones are the newest. Is it safe to remove the older ones? I do have to wonder how many other system apps are installed that I do not need that are left over from 2.1??? The nandroid version should be deodexed

That actually means it worked (maybe) . Every time I do the upgrade it breaks bootstrap and ROM manager. Just select the "Bootstrap recovery" button in bootstrap-per and flash clockwork recovery in ROM manager. If that doesn't work uninstall them and reinstall.

I ended up getting it to work, I posted the way I got everything to work. It didn't work that first time for whatever reason, but I'm not too concerned about it, I'm on 2.3.13 now.

Glad to hear you got it working! Can you check if you have duplicate apps? I have several such as 2 email. Since I backed everything up before I upgraded I can tell which ones are the newest. I do have 2 of all the standard apps now. I saw somewhere that the difference is in the naming, but I forget which one is the newer version and which one I should delete. I'll have to hunt around a bit more for that, but I did just purchase Root Explorer, so once I find it I'll be in good shape to get rid of those extra ones.

Can anyone tell me why doing a factory reset after removing the bloatware is advantageous? I've seen plenty of people say they removed the bloatware and then did a FR but I can't figure out why that would be beneficial. And, if I should be worried about losing root or apps (apps make sense that I'd lose them, can I re d/l after a FR?)

Check in the 2.3.13 post, I just answered someones question about which apps to remove.
 
I just removed the ones that Airmaxx posted in the 2.3.13 thread

These ones, FYI:

You can remove both of the backupassistant.apks and buacontactadapter.apk.
Removing blurcalendar.apk and blurcalendarprovider.apk will leave you with the newer calendar.
Removing cardock.apk will remove the older car dock.
Removing bluremail.apk will remove the older email app.
Removing mediagallery.apk will remove the older gallery.
Removing music.apk will remove the older music app.

I can't believe the boot up time difference between having those on when I rebooted last night vs. right now with those removed. Sweet!

well I just did a new backup using MyBackUp, did a wipe data, then restored with MyBackUp and all the double apps are gone. Weird but true

There isn't one other than the feeling you're putting it to the man. :D and maybe freeing up some storage in System. Ok what's an FR?
