Root how hot is too hot?

Have you had any crashes or freeze-ups while running it so hot?

eek, ran his phone at a pretty-high clock speed, seemingly without issue, and ended-up with a "non-responsive" phone (rhymes with "stick" 
).There have been others that take measures while running their phones at a high clock rate while doing things like charging and wi-fi tethering: these include removing them from their cases, using fans, and setting their phones on cold beverage cans.
I may simply be that your phone (and battery) tend to run a little hot with the combination of your usage and the ROM that you've got installed. I think if it were me, I'd find a combination that didn't tax my phone so much.

I thought you didn't have to overclock xtrSense? (at least that's what I thought Frisco always said...that it was snappy enough without needing to overclock).
Also, is your battery stock or third-party? I've got the Seidio 1750 in mine and never had any problems. Also, I noticed that when charging, the phone would warm-up by about 9-degrees C from the low 30s to the low 40s. I started removing the phone from my silicone case just to make sure. As the charge approached 100%, the temp would drop back down.
By the way, I think JrzDroid was running early versions of White Widow at the time...this was during the time when everyone was trying to crank-out higher and higher Linpack scores, etc. (not saying that's what he did...I don't think there was any "event"...it just kind of stopped wanting to work for him).
Oh, no...I don't have the 3500 one (just the 1750), lol--those are huge (and would just kill the esthetics of the phone).
I see what you mean, you don't have to o/c it higher than 710MHz...makes "sense"
[do I get a prize for being the one-millionth poster to use this pun?--probably not].The only other thing I can think of would be to watch what's going on with the phone to make sure its not staying pegged at 710MHz all of the time. When I use System Panel, I can clearly see that the CPU cycle down to much lower speeds. Maybe you've got something rogue going on?
Yes, but do you see if dropping from 710MHz on a regular basis?
I'm running Ivan's 1.0 and it occasionally hits 710, but drops to 528 a lot of the time (its inside the silicone case, connected to my desktop via USB, and is running at 31C). If the charge was low, it'll rise to about 40C, and then drop down after being fully-charged (like it is now--obviously not pulling more than it needs to maintain).
I used to have my profiles set to drop the clock speed much lower, but tweaked 'em to keep 528 as my minimum.
One thing you could do would be to Nand-backup your current setup and switch to another ROM and see how that ROM behaves. If its basically the same, then its your phone. If its not, then its the ROM.
Its not a perfect theory, just an idea / thing to try
