FYI - Swype Beta Updated for FROYO

Started having problems with Swype and just gave up. I'll wait until it is released then I'll buy it.
 
I just ran into the blue border flash issue after a reboot. I could still tap, but not swype on the keyboard. This never happened to me with 2.1. I'm running the official 2.2 OTA.
I selected the stock keyboard then reselected Swype and it works again. I'm bummed if this is going to happen everytime I reboot my phone (not that that's often -- this isn't a Blackberry for heaven's sake!).
Regarding battery life, check some of the threads on that. I made a couple tweaks from the stock configuration and my phone can go 24-36 hours with phone calls on a single charge.
 
I put this in another thread but this new version seems to pull names and words off of your address book and browsing history...highly annoying as they take the place of regular words.
 
I'm still doing the input method of changing it every-time i reboot, i hope SWYPE just makes an APP and be done with it...
 
I can't seem to find a downloadable version of swype. My previous version expired.

Could someone please explain why this company doesn't just make an app that can be purchased or downloaded on the market? What are they waiting for? Seems like they are missing opportunity to make money.

Any help on how to find a copy that works? I just registered for a beta this morning but got a message that 'beta is closed and I will notified when it reopens'.
 
I got the message that my beta had expired. Started sweating. Then I uninstalled Swype. Using a file manager, I searched for anything with "Swype" in it and deleted what I found. I searched through my old emails to find the site to download the installer and went to that site on my phone. I downloaded the installer and got Swype reinstalled. It works great, haven't had to reselect it yet (did a power down to test that) and my battery life is just fine. I love my phone.

They probably believe they'll make more money licensing their product directly to the actual manufacturers/service providers of the devices, opposed to dealing with individual purchases via the app market.
 
what I dont get is it seems as the incredible missed the swype train by about a month... every device since the incredible/evo has swype... HTC mytouch slide on tmobile.. all the moto droids... I dont get it the only phone that should have it stock would be the galaxy since its a samsung product...
I'm running 1.60.36.8214 now since my last beta expired yesterday... never had any problems with swype dont know if being rooted makes any difference, I also never had any problems with angry birds either

So than it really wouldn't effect them much that they keep needing to turn off the older beta versions for a few individual users.

So the community is good enough to beta test there $#!7 but not good enough to sell it to?

With that said....still looking for a new apk :)
 
I still have to reselect swype after reboot, and it's now giving me "configured for another device". Why is it so terrible? It ruins an otherwise great keyboard app.
 
What's the deal with Swype? I know my password is correct, but they have screwed something up so I can't use it anymore. It's so frustrating. If I can't get it working once and for all, I'm going to a competing product. It really just isn't worth all the headaches.
 
I ended up purchaseing SlideIt. It works very similarly to Swype and includes the microphone. You can also use graffiti.

Only costs about $7 from the Market.

Worth a shot until Swype comes out at least.

Same thing here. After downloading, following the directions, it tells me that I'm not using the phone I registered with. :confused:

This is the only phone I have had since April.

I still have swype, and went back to it.
Not a happy camper.

I emailed them but haven't heard anything.

I don't mind paying/trying SlideIT. I just think for the $6 price tag they could let you customize it a little more. At least pick colors and stuff.
 
i know nobody is allowed to post the apk here,

but is it against the rules for someone to announce when there is an apk out there for non-betas??

Yes it is... that being said, it is amazing what you can find searching the Android development sites... XDA is one of the best.

There are a lot of comments and questions on the forum about why we don't offer Swype directly to end-users. We'll state right away that at some point in the future we will. However, distributing software directly to end-users is not as simple as it may appear and it is not to be undertaken lightly. Here are a few of the key things we need to have in place as a company in order to be successful with that approach.

1) Complexity of porting and device support

There are many devices (at minimum 20+) that we would need to support. Take that number and factor in multiple carriers, languages, OS's, firmware versions, etc. and you have a BIG engineering project on your hands. Also, in order to make the numbers work (sales by volume) you need to support all of the most popular devices, OS's and storefronts.

2) Device integration.

We don't feel any of the current downloadable version of Swype is feature complete or even adequately tested (all downloadable version are in fact unlicensed at this time.) Consider that the keyboard is not really an application - it is more of an OS level function, as it must interact with EVERY application on the phone. Thus there is a lot of testing and integration that needs to be done in order for us to verify that it works well.

Also, a few of you are wondering what is missing from the unlicensed version? The most important absent function is "double tap editing." You can check this out on our video tip Swype | Text Input for Screens and we consider it to be one of the key features of our software as it enables you to quickly correct mistakes and restore the insertion point back where it was before the edit. Other things are language support (see #4 below) and some of the graphical fit and finish elements to improve usability and the user experience.

3) End user support.

We need to be ready to actually support end users (not just forums but real support...even Google is finding out what this means with their Nexus release.) If you download software and pay for it you expect that the company selling the software to you is prepared to support you, trouble-shoot problems, and ultimately fix them or provide a way to get a refund.

4) Additional languages.

Finally, we recognize that a significant percentage of you will want to Swype in languages other than what an OEM ships or what might come in a download package. We are working on a way to enable end users to download new language dictionaries. The significant issues are security and developing simple way for the user's handset to identify what languages are compatible with their Swype installation and provide them the appropriate version of the database.

We think that all four of the above are needed for us to be successful in a direct to consumer model. At the end of the day, we want you to have the best possible experience with our software. If we go to a download model too soon, we simply don't have the resources to create that experience.

Will we get there in the future? Definitely. Do we know when? No.

Since Swype is considered COPYRIGHT MATERIAL, unauthorized distribution of it against their wishes is ILLEGAL. AF does NOT want to be sued!!!
