SLCD HTC Incredibles at Best Buy

Saw on Droid Life, they are now available. Went to my local BB just now and they are in stock. Wonder how these new screens affect battery life.

I have read that as well, but it's hugely dependent on usage. If your screen is mostly blacks or other darks, AMOLED is way more efficient, but on a white screen AMOLED is a battery hog.

Which are? The amoled is 30% less efficicient than the SLCD? How does that translate into actual battery usage, anyone know?


I am seriously thinking of getting one of these. I had the amoled Incredible and sold it.

Tests on the S-LCD N1 and desire show the AMOLED had 30% battery left when the S-LCD ran out. But as I said before, battery drain on AMOLED is HIGHLY dependent on your actual usage, and settings. If you internet a lot, for example, AMOLED will be less efficient (possible less efficient than S-LCD) because almost every webpage uses white backgrounds.
 
The apps , bluetooth , low signal strengh , internet , streaming video are the battery hogs a lot more than the screen. You set your phone up corrrectly and put in a good kernel and you don't have battery problems. All the smartphones eat up batterys like a laptop does , regardless on the screen type if they are not set up right. :)

Yes, but a more efficient screen will also increase battery life. I don't have terrible battery problems now, but I certainly wouldn't want to make this phone any more of a battery hog.

Yea but Droid X does, Droid Incredible does not. You catch my drift bub?
 
No way. I called Verizon just last week and they said there were no plans to change the Incredible's screen, that it would remain AMOLED. And we all know that ALL Verizon techs know exactly what they are talking about...:rolleyes:
 
You guys (the smart ones) have to post some more comments here about your thoughts on this phone having the SLCD screen.

Would you buy?
Does it matter that it's not amoled?
Does your amoled screen exhibit a pink hue?
Will it really impact battery life in a negative way?

-I'm getting one next month because there just doesn't seem to be a better (non-rooted) phone out there.
-I think I'd stilll prefer AMOLED for the way they look in complete darkness (no backlit blacks,) but SLCD is not a deal breaker.
-As others have said, if your usage has white backgrounds primarily (webpages) it might actually be better to have SLCD.
-My main concern is whether user interface will be affected. Although unlikely, change in hardware might affect the way the device handle inputs.
 
According to Product Reviews News, BestBuy are now going to start selling SCLD based Incredibles.

"It is been confirmed that the latest HTC Droid Incredible handsets are arriving with SCLD screens instead of the AMOLEDs and these fresh handsets are already available for purchase through our beloved Best Buy."
 
Doesn't surprise me that Best Buy got it first though... way back when I got the RAZR, I got the newly updated model that was way faster than any of my friends'. It also had a slightly different look to it (no camera bump, better quality casing, etc)
 
Good news!

1. Better resolution for reading text
2. Saturation is almost as good
3. Drains less battery if you use the device with mainly white screens (web sites). This not likely, so not really a "good".

Bad news!

1. On average, drains 30% more battery (sans item 3 above)
2. Contrast is weaker

Summary: If you use the Inc for mainly ebook reading and white page web surfing, you are set! ;)
 
I could go either way. They are both good screens.
Reading on the SLCD is only slightly better and really has a lot to do with the lighting conditions around you.

yeah i dont really care, i have some trouble every so often in sun but otherwise the screen is fantastic on mine. love it
 
I finally got some movies on my sdcard and let me tell you, it mine as well be HD on a very tiny screen. I was very impressed. The colors are unbelievable. I'll keep my screen, thank you!

I agree that it's not less than ideal. However, the SLCD does have a sharper display (same technical resolution, higher effective resolution due to not using PenTile Matrix).

But resolution aside, I found the contrast to be a bigger issue. Black text on a white background (IE, most text you'll read) looks too washed out on an SLCD. So sure, it's clearer, but still has it's issues.
